Boston is a city with an interesting history! The Boston Tea Party is probably its best claim to fame worldwide. I'm not sure if a parody has been made where someone jumps into the water where all the tea was dumped and submerges saying, "What? No sugar! Yuk!" That must have taken a bit of work putting that excellent lesson together. We saw how all the tenses can be used in our everyday writing as the past, present and future come into play when describing events. A challenge would be to put all the tenses in one paragraph. I would love to throw in my "will have been being contemplated" somewhere in such a paragraph.

Yes, I thought about including the Boston Tea Party, but viewers can go to Instagram to learn about that event. This is the first time I mentioned the Boston Massacre in my videos, so that might peak someone's interest. :) Thanks for appreciating the effort that went into production and editing. You're welcome to challenge yourself with that dense paragraph. We really don't use the future perfect much, do we? Thanks for watching this long quiz!

I really enjoyed this grammar lesson. You are matchless! One question: Since I find aspect a bit confusing, I would really appreciate if you could explain how we can differentiate between aspect and tense. Thanks for helping us! God bless you!
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Glad you liked the quiz. Tense only tells us the time frame: past or present. Some books and teachers like to use the term "future tense." Sometimes it's easier to explain this way, but technically there isn't a future tense. We use modal verbs and present tense verbs to express future actions. WILL is a modal verb. Some sources also talk about "all the tenses," which again makes it easier. I used this in my title to get people's attention, but again there are only two tenses: past and present. Technically, the present progressive isn't a tense; it's the present tense with progressive aspect. There are two types of aspect: progressive and perfect. The progressive aspect usually expresses an ongoing/unfinished action. The perfect aspect can connect two periods or two points in time. More details in my full playlist on verb tenses. :)

Hello! How can we differentiate between past perfect + past time clause and past simple and past time clause like when ,after , as soon as .Are they both sentence conveyed the same meaning? I cooked pasta before I went there. I had cooked pasta before I went there.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes both variations are possible. For this reason, many American English speakers/writers use the past perfect very rarely. Time words like "before" make the sequence of events clear. @Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
Verbs that express a state or condition. Think of the linking verbs, including BE, SEEM, and APPEAR. Think of the sense verbs such as SMELL and TASTE. You can taste the soup, so someone can be tasting it, but the soup tastes good -- never "is tasting good." Also, possession: You have a smartphone. You wouldn't say, "I'm having a smartphone." Have a good day!

Raju -------(complete) his homework by the time you reach here Please answer
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
"Reach" is the simple present, so I understand that last clause as a future time clause: Raju will complete/ will have completed his homework by the time you reach here. Both variations would be acceptable in American English.
