Hi Kev, quick question. When you say you can make up the mixture for the whole week, where and how would I store the mixture once it’s made up and what’s the longest I can leave the mixture made up before it goes bad? Thanks.

I use similar supplements. Only I put it all in a squeeze bottle. Basically 2:1:1 ratio. 2 parts garlic guard, 1 part vitality, and 1 part zoo plankton. And I also add 2 ounces of vita chem. Shake the bottle up before each feeding, and add enough to cover all pellets. I feed my boys X-treme.

Sup Kev, Got in this hobbie about 2 yrs ago. Then went high tech planted aquarium co2, lights, and all. Loved the aqua scaping but pm was getting tuff. Then ran into you channel. Gottta say that ive learned alot. ( what i learned and still learning is that it takes years to balance, stabilize, and master your own aquarium set up. But learning from you i realized how many years of errors. money, & equipment you have saved me and everyone that watches your channel. I thank you for that. Now i upgrade to a 150 gal. tank from a 55 gal. My 55 gal was a community tank but i see all your cichlid videos and i took the risk of turning my tank into a semi aggressive cichlid tank. LEFT MY COMMUNITY FISHES IN THERE AND THEY ALL GETTING ALONG SO FAR. its been 3 month. Also removed all plants and just left all anubias. Easy pm. Now im learning your clear water setup for your cichlid. Bought a fluval fx6 and have your same setup. Except the crush corals because I dont need the high ph. (Yet). I have never gave thought to food and what they can do for fish color. So this will be my next course. My wife never liked this hobbie. Now she wants to learn everything and she says my tank belongs to her. My bad for such long review but i never leave a comment or anything. Not the media guy. But i just thought you deserve to hear what a good job you do. Also STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. CLARO Y PELADO!!! THANKS AGAIN BRO.

Kev, I wanted to say thank you so much. My son and I have learned more from your videos, on how to care for our fish, Cichlids and otherwise, than ANY person at any LFS I’ve ever spoken to. They all act like they know a lot, but don’t tell you about anything to get to PREVENT things from going bad. They wait until it’s bad to tell you what meds to treat with. I lost a Porcupine Puffer and a HumaHuma Trigger because of the improper guidance from them. I now know the things I can get to keep them healthy and prevent a lot of these illnesses from happening in the future!

That would be a great skill to have. Unfortunately if there is a way I don’t know of any. The only way I know is just recognizing the species itself. But there’s so many it’s difficult to memorize all the differences. You really have to be trained well to spot a fish and know what species and group it belongs too...I know some but no where near all.

Also my cichlids do NOT like the Northfin veggie pellets. I tried it with garlic guard too but they still don’t care for it too much. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whoever told you that will probably give you more bad information in the future. Pellets is the preferred food type for cichlids because it contains the most nutrients over flakes. Only thing Better than pellets, nutrition wise is fresh food.

@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
Oh man sorry to hear that! I know Brown algae can be a total pain! First of all stub and remove as much as you can by hand. Then watch your feeding, cut it significantly. You have to reduce nitrates as much as possible. Maybe change to twice a week 70% water changes! And limit your lights to like 4-5 hours per day, no more than that. If all else fails the problem may be in your tap water. Test for phosphates and nitrates in your tap. If it’s your rap then you may need to switch to RO water, which is a pain in itself. I hope some of this helps, good luck bro!

Your videos are so informative! Got to love them. Direct to the point and concrete. I have a community tank and a turtle tank that my dad just bought some african cichlid now because he saw the tank to empty. The turtle loves them and doesn’t bother them. Im learning now about african cichlids and I’m fascinated about them. 3 days ago they stopped eating and I got worried that’s how I found your channel. Yesterday I bought crushed coral and put it as substrate to raise my ph. Yesterday night they ate some, not as much but I guess little by little. Now that I saw this video I bought all of the products that you recommended to see if they increase their appetite. I as well want them to thrive. I don’t know if you will read this since is an old video, but you are the very best at explaining. EVEN WATER CHANGES ☝️ my God. My bank account is going nuts.

LOL So glad that Im able to help! New African Cichlid keepers are my favorite 😊 Raising the PH is definitely going to help them, just do it slowly, no drastic changes. And they will go nuts for the food after adding the supplements. Watch this playlist on African Cichlids, it'll definitely be helpful for you - kzfaq.info/sun/PLP5OXTIIDO8MG9hyJ8PjbC33zEbcyy8__ Also if interested Im developing an online course all about African Cichlids, from start to finish! I only feed my cichlids live ghost shrimp, live crickets, freeze dried crickets, freeze dried meal worms, freeze dried shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen blood worms or live red wiggles. They go crazy for all of them. I don’t even feed pellets anymore.

Those are great sources of protein and fats 👍 Would be nice if we all has access to all that. Some of us have to stick to pellets for convenience and cost.

@@KaveManAquatics yeah, I’m fortune. The freeze dried stuff is anywhere from 2 to 5 bucks depending on what you get. I found a local pet shop that only charges 3.50 to 5 for the frozen. Live anything is 2 to 5 bucks a dozen depending on if it’s insects or ghost shrimp. I live in a big city so I got plenty to shop and choose from.

I am big fan of nothfin as well just not for the veggie pellets though. NLS is much better their as they use variety of algae compared to northfin which is mostly kelp.I think gurlic guard is completely unnecessary with foods that already include garlic, too much garlic can cause issues. Big fan of vitachem as well. Never used the other products but seems like overkill with vitachem.

@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 2 жыл бұрын
You could store in the fridge, but you'll begin to lose some of the nutrients after the first day. Its more beneficial to prepare and feed daily. BUT if you dont have the time. 1 week in the fridge will still give more benefits than not doing it at all.

Hi there, great video. I'm looking for these products locally. Have your opinion changed in the last 3 years since the video? also, these seem to be for marine setups... i do freshwater aquascaping. Are these safe for plants, shrimps, etc?

Hi, I saw a lot of your great videos and now I am in love with Cichlid. I love Mbuna and Peacock. However, someome said the challenge we mix them together is how to find the way to feed them since they are different diets. Is it true or it does not matter ? Is there any brand that both Mbuna and Peacock can enjoy and no issue about digestion or floating? Thank you
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes its very true. Although some people do mix peacock and mbuna, their difference in diet is an issue. But thats not the only thing, theres more...Id advise a beginner not to mix them.
