I don’t agree with these forms because it shouldn’t be the same form for some of those! I created much better versions for some of these. The forms for N / A / D / G cases (in that order, from Nominativ to Genitiv) should be... for masculine -> der / den / dem / des for feminine -> die / din / dim / des for neutral -> das / dan / dam / des for plurals -> döt / dön / döm / dez The word for *this* should be dast (or das’ but pronounced with a Z sound, so that it sounds different from the article) instead of das, because das is the neutral article! The ones with S at the end sound like a possessive article for sure, and der and del also sound like possessives, but in German der is already used as an article for masculine, so it would make no sense to also use it for possessives, but in Dutch, der is used for possessives, meaning of, especially with singulars, while des used to be used with plurals, as in the songs Vorst Der Zotheid and kinda implied in the words de vrouw des huizen, but is in fact more of an article for plurals, because in Dutch sounds like an article for plurals more, because de is used with singulars, as it is used in the words des avonds / ‘s avonds and des ochtends / ‘s ochtends etc! (I might come up with better ideas for some of them in the future, once I get to an advanced level in German! I also want to know, from a native speaker’s perspective, if these sound right, or if other vowels would work better with plurals and feminine, because I also thought about words such dän / däm etc, and most of them sound right to me, esp the singulars! Besides, these forms are very easy to remember as they follow the same patterns and aren’t mostly random!)

Good video, although it'd be useful to see examples of using dative and accusative cases in other than "Ich gebe" and "Ich sehe" situations, so we could understand better the idea of "belonging" and "imposing action" nature of the two, respectively. Here's a few, including from your very own videos: Walt fragt eine Frau nach dem Weg. (Walt is asking a woman for directions.) - dative for masculine, Walt needs to be given directions so they could belong to him; Walt wartet in der Schlange. (Walt is waiting in the queue.) - dative for feminine, Walt belongs to the queue while waiting in it; Die Vase steht auf dem Tisch. (The vase stands on the table.) - dative for masculine, the vase belongs to the table while standing on it; Cari schmeißt den Schnee in Jamies` Gesicht. (Cari throws the snow into Jamie's face.) - accusative for masculine, Cari is imposing some action onto the snow; Walt geht in die Bank. (Walt is entering the bank) - accusative for feminine, Walt is imposing some action onto the bank; BUT Walt ist in der Bank. (Walt is in the bank) - dative for faminine, Walt now belongs to the bank, while being in it; etc. Hope this helps

I found it's easier if you learn the nominative, then accusative followed by dative and genitive. You get comfortable building sentences with just the subject and direct object before you add the less common indirect object and possessive.

See what happens if you set up the chart in a way that allows learners to see patterns: Nominative, Accusative, Dative, Genitive (at the bottom). Many recent textbooks have left the old formulation, based on the Latin inflection table, behind.

I didn't even know this was a thing I'd have to learn, best get started. It seems that English is unique compared to other, at least European, languages when it comes to things like this as well as simply not having gendered articles. It's a lot to get your head around initially.

The table has items ordered in a way that is not very suitable for remembering. When you order cases N-A-D-G and genders M-N-G-P, it's much easier to remember its content. Because similar forms are close and you can visually remember them. language-easy.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/German-Cases.jpg

So it's not possible to know the cases unless you know if nouns are masculine, feminine or neutral. Are there any rules to know this? I only know that plurals are usually feminine.

@computerfreak2778
@computerfreak2778 4 жыл бұрын
The issue is that Ich gebe die Frau das Buch sounds quite weird. Because at first you might think that you give the WOMAN (Frau) to someone. There is a reason why we Germans use cases - without them we would have such a strict word order like in English. However, with the cases we are able to put many things the way we desire.
