Using Magik and Hunter to line people up into Ghost riders hell ride... freaking beautiful.

Nico was a game changer for me late game, her witchfire would help clear an entire wave when modded for extra damage.

Magik and Nico are two of my go to heroes, always crushing it. I haven't unlocked the last 3, but the 1 mission I played with wolverine he was a beast.

I don't know if you are looking for suggestions, but what do you think about doing "deck highlight" videos? Just highlighting a ready-made interesting/strong playstyle, including mods and possible team comps.

On Scarlet Witch, I have to agree with you. She should be an S class character but with her skill set for the most part being centered around herself, I find this mechanic terribly difficult to use well. The area is just not large enough to be really useful and the skills are not strong enough to make a really good effort to utilize. It's cool he can buff and heal other heroes for example, but it's not good enough to make the effort of moving the heroes around her.

I agree with your individual ratings there is a lot that is missed in the team ups. For instance, one of the most powerful team ups is Magik and Scarlett Witch with 3 cards you can pretty much ruin the entire matchup and i have done this twice in my first play through (portal damage buff + Gather + The Witch ability where enemies attack each other) and if you get the gather ability twice it gets even more powerful. A lot of the heroes are dependent on who goes into battle with them.

Overall, I think your ratings are spot-on. I think you can really make anyone viable. I finished a playthrough at U3 and have just been grinding end-game missions to unlock the cosmetics. I'm trying to rotate through everyone just for fun. I think certain heroes shine with other heroes a bit more. For instance, while Wanda is pretty meh on her own, if you pair her with Magik, she can become pretty insane. I also have Magik in my s-tier. She goes on practically every mission--I love her so much, but she was more difficult to get the hang of early on, that's for sure.

Unless I've overlooked something, there's not a ton of explanation for what they do, which makes it hard for me to know how valuable they are to apply. This is the first video of yours that I have seen since you stopped making Ultimate Alliance 3 content, which I followed very closely (I have 200+ hours on MUA3!). I must say, while I don't have this game yet, I've missed your awesome accent and detailed gameplay analysis, so I'm watching your Midnight Suns videos regardless and might get the game in the future! 😀

Another thing that is really important in ranking is each person's personal preference for for playstyles. All of us play differently and use different strategies and builds, so there is no one definitive guide on who is or isn't the best in the game. Besides Hunter, they are obviously the best character.

After spending so much time with Marvel's Avengers and coming away from it...well, less than satisfied, Midnight Suns has been a blast so far. I know it's not perfect but I certainly am enjoying playing it thus far! Glad to see you're covering the game, Tony. Appreciate you and your content as always!

Yeah I can get behind this. A couple of points I'd like to make: Magik can struggle pretty hard in the early game, and becomes immensely better when Shove is unlocked so that you aren't dependent on her cards to make use of her portals. Spider-Man doesn't *have* to be a resource glut like Iron Man in order to be effective. Building him for an efficiency playstyle with Quick Kick, Chain Strike, and Opportunist shifts his focus to clearing minions and damaged enemies, which is a very valuable service for most missions. Let Spidey spend one card play every other turn to take out all the trash so the others can focus on the big baddies. A lot of Ghost Rider's abilities are awesome in concept, but the reality is that they are too inexpedient for their own good. I had the most success throwing out the Hell Ride cards and replacing them with Immolate. Keep his Drain Soul cards, upgrade his Lash attacks to have the Quick property, and suddenly he can get a pretty shocking amount of work done for very little. I've had to stop taking him on side missions for a while because he just ends up hard-carrying while I'm trying to get some use out of other characters.

I think Magik's Gather+ with "moderate AOE boost" MOD, is a card that matches any hero with AOE damage card, this combined with the amazing repositioning it does on enemies, allowing you to use the entire battlefield at your disposal please, in addition to what has already been said in the video. Grants her an A rank due to her great synergy with virtually any team composition!

As someone who has a limited amount of time to play games each weekend, I try to play as efficiently as possible so I truly value your opinion and content.

Ghost rider can take out an entire enemy team on one turn, he’s overpowered, you don’t need the rest of your cards. I don’t have hulk yet but looks like he can too, holy shit I need me a hulk

Problem with spiderman is that his chain ends immediately if you don’t ko the target with each hit. So you can’t focus on one target like other chain attacks can. Even if you spread the chain out, you still need to ko everything. So a chain 4 card will rarely actually get all 4 hits. I know he is good for taking out minions but other heroes with chain attacks can also do that so his chains are just always worse.

I agree for everyone aside from Spidey. Spidey does so little damage on higher difficulties, his chain strike is cool but quick abilities are more efficient and its unlikely you will ever be able to kill anything aside from that. thwip is cool

Been holding off on playing the game for now bc I've got a lot on my plate atm, but still really eager to jump in once I can get my hands on it. Assuming I'll be going in on an average difficulty tier, since I'm new to these sorts of games, do you think a Cpt Marvel, Nico, and Hunter team setup could manage to do fairly well? That's what my gut is telling me I'll want to play.

I found that Wolverine was incredibly effective at both roles. His damage is great and spread out, his cards have good mods to gain counter or resist. His healing is pretty good too, as even when you bin the cards you get health back. Self revive has been amazing. He is very self sufficient and he has been performing very well. Chain is a great mechanic. Also, seeing him yell during his animations is amazing Also, obviously Hunter is the best hero. Especially when built as a support. So many "free" upgrades.

I’ve been using Hunter, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange. I don’t use any of Captain Marvel’s tank cards and instead go for damage. It’s worked great so far.

100% agree on Captain America. Captain America is actually insanely good in the late game. His shield bash card can get a mod to become a quick card, and it does like 500 damage with maxxed stats and refunds a card play AND the block used to do the damage if you have best defense going. Him and Captain Marvel are the only characters I've been able to consistently win 9v1s with on ultimate 3 when two other characters are down because they are so efficient at building block and countering for large amounts of damage.

I haven’t used Doctor Strange and Iron Man much in first play through. Heroism generation is extremely easy in this game once you get access to more of the hero cards. Conceal is something you can get from a combat item and a lot of damage can be nullified with weak status effect, resist, and block. Iron Man seems really strong but it’s like you said you have to commit more card plays and redraws towards him similar to Captain marvel. I think I hold Captain Marvel I’m such high regard because of her ability to do everything. Self heal, CC, high burst damage with the potential to apply CC. The binary has literally saved me 2-3 extra turn’s because of the damage output she can do. I’m approaching endgame now so I’ll definitely be experimenting on harder difficulties with the other heroes a lot more like Strange, Iron Man, and Captain America before NG+. Thanks for the consistent content!

You completely nailed the Bleed mechanic. It is so incredibly underwhelming for the amount of effort & time it takes. I found that Wolverine has a lot of cards that can get bleed tacked on to them. And the Hunter has a few, so setting up the three player team felt like it allowed Blade to finally do what he was meant to do... and it was still just not that great. Had cards like Retribution, been added to other characters, or Nico the blood witch having a kit that let her Speed up the bleeding or anything it could have worked. But as is it means Blade sits on the bench for me.

Great video even though I had complete opposite experience with scarlet witch. I mainly played her and spiderman. Spidey opportunist really solved her movement issues and I actually play around her dentonate ability. With a dark hunter making 3 swords she would nuke battlefields

I will say I felt the same way about skarlett witch at first but she does have some of the best AOE and her aoe mark can enable a lot of dps to have a lot of extra moves in a turn if their mods give something on ko. even if you ignore unleashed I feel it works. But overall it does feel less useful than Doctor Strange and Nico.

Ive had great success with Scarlet Witch so far. Definitely a high learning curve though, gotta really plan multiple moves ahead.

I need to test it first as soon as possible but I think Blade is very powerfull if the following works: "Daywalker" card mod needs to be bleed +1 (if possible +2) and "reaper" card needs the quick mod. On top of that "Make 'em Bleed" has to be free! With this combination he would be a boss killer if you stack daywalker bleeds on one enemy + reaper. And it would only cost you one cardplay.

You can actually get Redraw 2 on Precision with Iron man - making it 100% free use. Great list, agree with most everything on there. Have to say that Ghost Riders Midnight Sun skill has really clutched out some wins for me on Ultimate 2.

I went into the game expecting Blade to be my "main" ie fav. But turns out that spot goes to Ghost Rider. His damage potential is so good, especially once you start getting into the Ultimate difficulties. I use him to activate all the environmental kills to rack up souls, which means unfortunately he has anti-synergy with Spider-man since both want to be the one using traps.

Cap, Doctor Strange and Iron Man all S tier is what I thought as well. They also pair extremely well together and are probably the best group in the game as they all complement each other extremely well. Extra card plays, attack draw, and damage buff from strange feeds into iron man extremely well, and cap can help pull more cards and soak damage very well. I notice also that with the right mods Iron Man can be pretty tanky as well and tends to get a lot of block off KO mods.

I still need to unlock SW and Hulk, but I mostly agree with you. For me, Magik is A but needs some time to get used to her and some mods. After that, I think she's easier to use than others at A or S tier on some missions.

Already planning my ng+ squad and im barely 15hours in, think spiderman just for the free plays to take out trash and then funnel everything into hulk would be good?

I really like how each character behaves like different deck types of other CCGs and each utilize different mechanics of the game itself, with varied mileage of course. Has me curious how the first four DLC characters will perform and differ. We at least get hints at Venom probably being another tank type, one that disables enemies with binds, some bleed (would pair well with Blade), and that aoe could be quite devastating. I'd imagine Morbius would also cause bleed, or at least possess a lot of lifesteal. Storm could very well outclass Scarlet Witch as a crowd controlling damage dealer. And then there's Deadpool, a definitive wildcard and will probably have some manner of "borrowing" moves from other heroes, perhaps expand upon the concept of Magik's reinforcement card and allow cards from other heroes not actively on the field or something 4th wall breaking. Edit: fixed a typo.

I like the hunter because of the high versatility so i understand not ranking. But yes i agree with this list.

i didn't struggle with sw all that much, because i never bothered with the aoe damage, she has a skill that puts marked on every enemy in an area, get her detonate heroic, that is how she deals massive damage, plus her skill that restores health and grants resist if you're near her. plus her hex bolt can be useful in clearing out minions with how it chains and the chain grows with every use, so 2 chain 50 damage can turn into five chain for a total of 250 damage, plus quick toss is good too

I'm so sad to hear Wanda is bottom tier again after MUA3. I hoped she would come to Avengers, but we know how that went. I hope they do patch some of the things you've mentioned. I want everyone to be relatively even

About Blade, I use him as Damage dealer with bleed, and he are strongest when I combo Make Then Bleed, top10 draw cards in the game, and use cards to kill minions first and not losing actions to do a Litte massacre becouse the stacks in combos and bleed are buffed, also to do easy this wombo combo Magik are import becouse she can put many targets together to easy whay blade hit the strongests and cancel heals by bleed.

How did you get +2 card draws on ko on iron man’s quick blast. I’ve re-modded his quick blast 10 times over and never found it.

Only just unlocked Scarlett Witch, but from what I've seen, her kit is too weak without being given higher base offensive rating. If they increase the damage dealt by her cards, I could see her moving up a tier, two if they increased her AoE or allowed her to use ranged AoE.

I agree with Scarlet Witch. Her Chaos Reigns card is super fun, but apart from this, she is quite meh... But Ghost Rider ist very strong imo. He should be A tier for sure. For the bleeding mechanic, I totally agree with but I think they made it like this in preparation for Morbius. I guess he will have a passive which will be affected by the numbers of enemies affected by bleed.

I agree with most but hard disagree with wolverine, for me he’s the best hero in the game as if he’s setup right he can single handedly win a mission cause of his health steal. Played a mission where I was getting swarmed by the buff hydra that adds frenzy and heals, crossbones, and the super hydra that uses the electric whip with dazes. SW and cap where down but wolverine have the cure when he’s unable to move was so busted plus the berserk and strengthened combo allowed me to win a very unlikely to win mission so for that it puts him in S tier for me

I love Nico in any team. I'm also a big fan of Magik but I'm a bit bummed she takes the "portal" archetype from Dr Strange. Like, he's so cool using portals in the movies I kinda wish he had a bit more of an offensive archetype in Midnight Suns.

Does the tier list take into account mods and Ultimate III difficulty? For example, Blade with Bleed mods, changes his entire kit completely and what cards you bring. Wolverine is the only character with a revive and with the right mods, recovers hp + counters + can add block to himself. Nico is op, but requires investments into mods to bring out her full potential. No characters really need buffs. People just need to mess with the mods and team comps. Strange and Cap can be put on any team. Hulk needs a team built around him.

By maxed out, do you mean there’s an eventual max to prestige leveling? If so, what is it?

The only ones I disagree with are ghost rider and wolverine if you upgrade ghost rider and get the card that blows up enemies on ko he is a solid s tiers I think wolverine could be moved to a since he can be clutch in the harder missions. Good video really enjoyed these were my only criticisms

All I'm saying is I'm playing on Ultimate 3 using Magic and Ghost Rider. Team absolutely demolishes. Set up hellmouth with Ghost Rider and a portal with Magic pointing at the hole. Turn Ghost Rider into a hole with Straight to Hell and Banish any big hitters with Magic or protect her or an Ally. Now you have at least three holes on the field. Start knocking everyone into holes with Magic or Hunter. I play Hunter as High single target damage and knockback. You can use Magic's movement action to trigger her portals once you have the push maneuver. You can use extra movement items to do this an additional two times. You could potentially kill the biggest guy on the board with a single card play.

alot of this depends on the fight but i think scarlet witch should be higher able to Hex Charge the targets with shielding and kill the nest mother with in one turn is kind of OP

Captain Marvel has been my MVP in my game so far. Her clutch taunts and Photon Beam have saved me in so many situations.

I would argue ghost rider being A tier simply from his self drop card which allows him to tank an entire group then disappear. Mix the with nico for amazing drain souls turns. I would also argue wolverine being A tier as well as he has self cure in his kit that you can use when dazed or stunned and captain marvel and America dont.

Biggest problem with Blade is that - at the highest levels - enemies have SO MUCH goddamn health that, outside of random trash enemies, his bleed might as well just not be there...

I'm just getting past part 1, but I feel like ghost rider probably deserves to be A, higher than B. He takes planning around to be effective and you gotta try to feed him kills early to get the snowball rolling, but when it is rolling he is an absolute monster. Drain soul is a great card and its his main way to maintain health and dish out absurd damage. Multiple of his other cards have heal mods too. I play him with doctor strange and light Hunter most of the time, but I'm starting to pair him with Nico: Her upgraded skill cards seem to be fantastic support for him If you like a snowball play style while building stacks, he's great fun

Run Nico as damage dealer in a party with Strange and Wanda and she becomes a nuclear bomb capable of clearing U3 encounters in 1 round.

Depends on if you list these as "fresh out of the box" or "once you have upgraded and modded their cards". Because Magik with free Grasp x2, is insane. For zero cost, you pile up 150-200 damage (yes it doesn't reset, it adds up), and can toss anyone anywhere (stun pits / on your mate for +1 card / etc). Not to mention her Darkchylde shenanigans. You end up dealing 500-800 damage pretty fast as long as you planned your "no discard / pick character cards". And again. For free, since you just need a shove (move attack) or her "quick" knockback to profit.

This game has already blown me away and I'm at ab 15 maybe 20 hrs. Best game cash ever spent

I had the same tier picks as you cept Wanda is actually A tier cause she's a late game champ. Her ultimate is based on health, which can melt the board, but if she's just starting out she's defiantly D tier

Magik dragged my ass across the finish line in my Ultimate 3 run, solo carrying all the side missions that you have to bring random characters on for tech requirements and whatnot. I managed to craft Resist on KO on both her quick soulslashes, and draw last attack played on both her limbo portals. With a single drop card in the deck you can kite bosses indefinitely, and eventually you get to play enough limbo’s grasps that you can 1 shot anything on the map. Easy S tier for me.

you ever think the bleed mechanic is in place for balance? can you can imagine how OP blade would be if bleed worked the way you wanted it to 😂

One thing I think this type of hero comparison isn't able to acknowledge is that their are certain synergies between characters that can really increase their playstyles. Magik, for example If she is with Ghost Rider, you can either use her portals to line enemies up for an exceptional Hell Ride. Or... if you use Ghost Rider as the effective support, his hellmouth's have an increased chance to KO over normal drops, so you can fling just about any enemy into them for at least 85-90% chance even when they start at full health because of her Limbo's Grasp. If she is with Scarlet Witch, you will tend to generate the extra moves that Wanda needs to become useful, and also move the enemies around as well so that the AoE attacks are more effective. Scarlet Witch with Wolverine, if you focus on her large AoE, 3 turn marked card, and have Wolverine's cards modded to either have on KO resist, or card draw, you can effectively weaken the entire battlefield and use Wolverine as the tank he is almost intended to be, due to his lifesteal and taunts. Obviously these examples show why they are considered weaker characters, as they need the synergies to become effective, whereas other characters are just solid regardless who you play them with. Also something you didn't mention in your Hulk analysis, is that on higher difficulties, his ability to stun multiple enemies in a turn makes him extremely effective at crowd control. Sneakliy good if used to stun the shock shield guys with his smash ability, as you will generate the extra two rage from that one hit, whilst simultaneously taking out a massively annoying enemy for a turn.

I' d switch Nico and Magik, but I think my personal playstyle is more about controlling the environment and lining up clusters for attacks than most.

Ghost rider is s tier easy straight to hell heels him, avoids afflictions, and effectively makes him invincible, use lash to build your damage cards heal with straight to hell (removing the risk reward, then nuke enemies.

Every time I roll the Avengers together, I destroy the mission.

great list but id change spiderman to s tier. he can clear trash gets free environmental attacks and if you mod his cards right and choose no cost attacks outside of up here he can generate heroism and he can clear trash lol. I'm not 200 hours but I'll try some of your advice.
