Hunter x Hunter has been my favorite anime/manga for such a long time, it's always great when Nick drops a video of it! Hell yeah, dude!

They can never make me hate the Chimera ant arc. It accumulates everything they learned from the Hunter exam to Greed island. What you said about Gon and Mereum switch was great. Darkness and light. It’s an amazing story telling, which shows how dark it will be getting from there on. It’s an amazing arc.

Most people hate how much the narrator is used during the chimera ant arc but thats one of my favorite aspects of the arc

I will always say that the Killua scene with Palm is one of the best period and doesn’t get talked about nearly as much as it should.

At first I did not like Hunter X Hunter, thought it was too slow and did not flesh out the characters enough, but it's like a slow burn, each arc getting better and better, and the Kimera Ant Arc was just so damn perfect. That arc I have re-watched a few times and Meruem is one of my all time favorite characters with the most amazing growth for a so-called villain. And watching Gon delve into darkness and near death, while Mereum saw the light and humanity...flawless.

12:07 two things, first, and I know this was on accident, but you said kurapika instead of killua tore a heart out of dude's chest... But secondly, I didn't notice this until my 3rd or 4th viewing... Killua doesn't put the dude's heart in a bag at all. It's just the piece of torn shirt from when he reached in to grab it. If you look, the "bag" is the exact same color as his shirt or poncho. Honestly, that kind of attention to detail and masterclass world building is just one of the few reasons I fell in love with this show.

I knew of Meruem before watching the arc but seeing how we got to Meruem was a out of this world experience

I loved the Hunter Exam arc, they were all so cute and innocent back then. I disliked the Greed Island because I found it boring as heck and plus there was no Kurapika :(

Honestly, I LOVE the chairman election arc, it manages to do so much in so little time, i dont really know how to describe the feelings i have towards it, it's just that it manages to have such a good mesh of heartwarming and tearjerking moments that it feels like such a complete package. is it setup? sure, but the tension and slow realization, pariston aint shit, he is just fucking around, and truly couldn't care less about what happens. it just creates so many interesting characters in such a short time frame, like it manages to "wrap up" kurapika's story in literally 1 frame and it fells satisfying

i dont care that Greed Island is one of the big three of the anime (for me PERSONALLY) Succession Contest already blows it out of the water BY FAR. Yorknew and Chimera Ant are still at the top but Succession is very close for me. Now that's probably an effect of me actually enjoying the infodumping in Succession Contest (one of the reasons i also like jjk) and Tserriednich is a STELLAR antagonist, arguably the best in the series (or at least up there with Meruem). More Kurapika is always welcome and we will (assuming it gets continued) finally get to see more of Ging. I agree that an arc can't be truly judged until its done but i believe in Togashi's skills as a storyteller to make this arc at least top 3 in the series even if he needs to wrap it up fast. So yeah, mostly agree with the entire list EXCEPT Greed Island and Succession Contest, would personally swap the two

Good vid. Yorknew City is one of my fav arcs in anime…but I kinda hated the Chimera Ant arc. I dropped it 3 times before I got through it. To each their own!

I believe the chimera ant arc needed to be long for setup to have one the most amazing payoff i seen in an arc and it's hard remove anything in this arc (maybe the phantom troupe stuff but i love that intermission)

@17:10 1 thing I noticed u said wrong was that Hisoka started killing the Spiders before his battle with Chrollo which isn't true. He only started to kill them when he realized that they supplied him with their abilities and was a way to attack his emotions and make them seek him out at his advantage. Hisoka killed Shalnark first becuz of the receiver ability he loaned Chrollo then killed the 2nd one becuz of the Another ability. Hisoka also was able to fight Chrollo as a reward for finding the exorcist that helped get Chrollos nen back after getting it sealed by Kuripika in York New city

I feel Chimera Ant arc feels worse than it actually is because it comes right after Greed Island which also people weren't thrilled about. So instead of the build up being from there, it felt like building up from the literal York New arc. It's still extremely slow (but i think that's because of the time period when it was written) but its not entirely it's own fault.

I like imagining the utter absurdity of watch the assault on the Chimera Ant stronghold from the outside. Everything happens so fast but through time dilation we can see it in slow motion when the fighting begins, lulls briefly, and then reignites. It was look like a nuclear bomb (two even) basically just went off out of nowhere.

Chimera Ant is amazing and I understand the love for it. Gon and Meruem have the best parallel of any protagonist and antagonist in fiction. The depth and themes behind each character but specifically Colt, Gon, Netero, and Meruem were amazing. But I also understand the critics. The pacing was very slow and a few parts were unentertaining to say the least. My favorite, and my second favorite anime arc ever has to be York New City. From the suspense, to the ruthlessness, to Kurapika’s motivation, to seeing the Phantom Troupe and learning of the darkness of the mafia world in HxH, it was perfect.

100% agree with your list. I do wish that if we ever do return to HxH it’s after the entire Manga is done we can get a Brotherhood type of treatment where we can tie everything together better. The Chimera ant arc would be EVEN BETTER if we had more of an idea how much Kite meant to Gon from the very beginning on Whale Island. It’d even make the beginning of the show more action heavy so you can get through those first few episodes before the true Hunter Exam that are some of the most boring parts IMO. I’d even love to see their time together in the beginning of the Chimera Ant arc more fleshed out and make that arc even longer just to solidify their bond and make Adult Gon hit even harder emotionally.

I don't have any objections with your rankings however, you forgot to highlight the phantom troupe dismantling the Chimera Ants in Chimera Arc. It's the first time Togashi showcased the Nen ability of the Phantom members. Love it specially the last fight against the queen.

I enjoyed Hunter x Hunter and I can't disagree that the Chimera Ant arc is the best in the series, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best in all of anime. I don't think there is a greatest arc in all of anime.

I'd switch the top 2 just because of how much exposition is in the Chimera Ant Arc. The pace slows down entirely too much for me to put it above Yorknew City. As far as the others in the top 5, I pretty much agree. I actually love the beginning of the show more, because I've watched it all. So the beginning is nostalgic and Leorio, Kurapika, Gon, and Killua aren't together for most of the show. Lol I like them together.

Succession war might become the best arc if not for hiatus (please don't get angry i said it might)

what is so great about york new city and chimera ant is that it feels so unlike shonen. sure greed island also had some darker themes but all the other arcs feel essentially shonen (imo) i think togashi who prior to hxh struggled with expectations and limitations of publishing yu yu hakusho in the shonen jump really shines when he gets to venture outside of the classic shonen format. you can see this in how both arcs aren't really centered around gon who is a very stereotypical shonen mc. york new primarily focuses on kurapika and the phantom troupe and while chimera ant features him more heavily the focus is more on the ants themselves. also both conclusions don't end in "the mc finally overpowered the bad guy" usually shonen arcs are mostly about how much hype can you build until the antag is defeated by the super strong mc
