@@BrentLeVasseur While the act of handing (or receiving) someone a physical object with songs has sentimental value, especially to those of us who had those experiences, I think if someone cared enough to craft a playlist for you, even one sent electronically, that playlist would still hold meaning. It’s the thought put behind the act itself more than the delivery process - at least for me anyway.

Andrew, your comments regarding the inherent gaps in the DTS-Play system appear to indicate that your listening involves little classical or jazz works. I can see where those who listen to playlists or even CD’s comprised of distinct songs would not be bothered by the now smaller gaps introduced by the DTS-Play system. However I find them quite annoying when they interrupt a work that’s designed to be continuous. Would I fault AudioLab, Quad and others who use this in their systems? Yes I would….not for the technical reason but due to the fact that they chose a third-party’s streaming system that adversely impacts the otherwise excellent experience they provide their customer. Given all the effort they have invested in the rest, the choice of DTS-Play doesn’t make sense IMHO. Please continue to deliver such excellent videos.

Great video. The Audiolab Omnia is great for a person who wants an all-in one setup and not complicate their setup. The mere fact that a person is getting two great products rolled into one package is a plus and that Audiolab didn’t skimp out on the quality of sound, in my book is great. If a person want gapless playback, get a turntable, hook it up to the Omnia, sit down and enjoy the records that you have that play with no gaps between tracks. Or put the CD in and also enjoy gapless playback. Thanks Andrew and Kristi for my Sunday video fix. 👍🏾

I bought an all-in-one that was introduced 14 years ago. It's a Pioneer Elite X-Z9. One of the best purchases I ever made. When done right, these can last for decades and replace several components. I/O deficiencies can be an issue, but overall - it's great for a secondary system. Thanks for your review.

At my age I’ve been through vinyl,8 track, cassette, VHS, laserdisc, DVD, HD DVD, Blu Ray, and 4KDVD, and now streaming. After all the money spent on physical media and the various machines to play said media a all in one solution now makes sense. Give me a 600Play, set of Klipsch Forte’s , Spotify or Amazon music, a movie streaming service or two and I’m done. Great review.

Another top shelf review! Always look forward to a notification from you guys! An upscale lifestyle product or a second system for an audio enthusiast at best… then it’s true calling, a luxury paperweight. What gives me the hibby jibbies with these all in one boxes (at this asking price) are the list of potential fails such as but not limited to the screen, transport, laser or electronics crapping out all closed in with a substantial heat source. Not to mention the dac and/or software connectivity becoming obsolete. It’s not if but when. Most likely just when the warranty expires, then comes the sinking feeling because you donated your old system to your nephew for his first stereo and realizing your listening ti your phone speaker for months until it’s repaired if you can stomach the bill.

I actually have the dra because I hoped I could use it as an vinyl input for my heos 7 speaker in the kitchen. That is not working though. Great review. I have the Bluesound Node, so I’m curious if the streaming advantages are worth the jump. I listen to a lot of vinyl. I too have a large cd collection that I play via the NAD C538. I am toying with the Audiolab 6000A (non Play version) and keeping the Node. I would probably use an Aux input for phono since I am using an old Conrad Johnson as a phono pre. I too,would love an hdmi in. I am currently running hdmi through an Outlaw 975, but would probably decide to forego any surround processing by sending the Rec Out from the 975 to one of the RCA inputs on the Audiolab. I would use the Audiolab 6000 in Pre only since I would send the signal to an old school Kenergetics Research Chiro C 300. Does this sound reasonable? Is there a better way to navigate the balance between HDMI and Analog? If there was an all in one that did the above, I’d say yes. I haven’t found an AV receiver or pre/pro with a strong emphasis on two channel musical fidelity that keeps the analog signal path truly analog. I’d rather have outstanding 2 channel stereo with surround processing as almost an afterthought. Is there one?

I loved Kristi’s take on this one. I chose the Powernode 2021, paired with the Q Acoustics 320is, based on your review and never looked back. It works perfectly for my lifestyle and space. When I listen to CDs, I use my Technics transport, which is connected to the PN. Do I want other Hi-Fi products? Sure. But, for now this setup solves my listening needs/wants at a very accessible price.

I recently sold my M5si (which I bought after watching your review) and my Node 2. I went for the Atoll SDA 200. It’s a French made kickass amp plus the accompanying streamer in 1 housing. It has a nice display, a real remote(!), great native app and Tidal/Spotify build in. And a DAC. I didn’t like the design of the amp when compared to the MuFi in 2020 but I dig the all in one. I think it's a bit too easy to argue that Audiolab isn't responsible for the Play-Fi app. It isn't, but it's the app that they chose to use, which I think can be a valid criticism of Audiolab in general and maybe the Omnia as well. I mean, your point sounds a bit... academic, to me at least. The fact that you can stream via an Apple TV or use bluetooth is a bit moot in my opinion. If you use an Apple TV, you're essentially not using the streaming part of this system anymore. And Bluetooth probably isn't the best quality. I was considering a Bluesound Node or Powernode, or maybe an NAD C700. I like the look of the 6000A Play and this Omnia. But as it is, I'm not swayed to this device, even if it sounds better, and that's because of DTS Play-Fi.

For those that don’t know Monitor Audio owns Roksan, and the streaming version of the Attessa uses BluOS. I would be interested to hear the comparison in audio quality between the 6000a, C700, Attessa and Hegel 95. Hopefully you could get that in too at some point as its already been mentioned quite a few times by others.. The older I get, the appeal of an all-in-one becomes more and more attractive: components will likely be synergistic with way FEWER wires, giving a much neater living room. Andrew, how about a review of a Hegel? H95? H120? One of the many reasons I LOVE your reviews is that you address natural tonalities. I not only attend live orchestra concerts with some frequency (or did so before COVID), as an amateur musician, I play in rehearsals (or did so before COVID) with acoustic instruments at least once a week for over 50 years. I know what musical instruments actually sound like. Keep up the good work!

Great surprise! Thanks! So even the most recent ESS dac didn't change anything? I'm very confused now since I look at that before choosing my next integrated amp. Having an oppo player to play my DVD-audio recordings of the Doors, imo the best sound they ever released besides vinyl, I guess the omnia isn't for me either and can't wait for your review of the C399! And if possible to make an extensive comparison with the ones in this video, great job!

Does this device have any streaming services running natively on it or is it just an end-point for your phone as that’s a pretty huge difference. Naim runs tidal/qobuz/Spotify on board (Sonos has been doing this for 10 years). It’ll also take chromecast hand-off’s. I think in this day and age people are expecting their services to just hand-off so you’re not tethered to the amp. If it doesn’t do these things it’s only a very basic streamer (and that’s being generous).

hi there and thanks for all your nice video reviews. Very helpful. A quick question . My setup is a coctailaudio X45 a turntable, a pair of focal aria 906 and amplifier an advance acooustic x-i105. I am not totally happy and i think the amplifier is the reason. I am happy with my coctail audio X45 in general. But i was thinking what if....i get rid of the amp and the coctail and buy an omnia. Ok i know i will lose some of the X45 feautures like r music ripping cds or vinyl but ok i can live with that. I have heard my speakers with other amps but in another budget that i dont have (naim,arcam etc) So any answer would be much appreciated.Greetings from greece !! Really enjoying the channel, Andrew. I took the plunge and bought the Omnia a few weeks ago as part of a major overhaul. Space was a major factor in my decision and I'm really happy with the result. Play-fi app was a little tricky at first. I'm now looking ahead to upgrading my speakers because I don't think my Q Acoustics 2010is are doing the Omnia justice. I'd be super interested to hear y'all's take on something like a Hegel H95 all-in-one integrated. I've got a Peachtree Nova 300 which I like as an AIO solution, but my Maggies are making me more and more curious about Hegel or Naim.
@Sai-cx5ib

I owned a Hegel h95 for several months. For the price I was disappointed. The amplifier itself did not feel like it was worth it’s price. The buttons, knobs and remote felt surprisingly cheap and flimsy. The sound quality of the built in DAC and number of digital inputs was its best feature but I don’t think it’s hard to find a good external DAC nowadays. The overall sound of the amp was not anything special in my opinion. I was able to sell the h95 and get a used Yamaha AS2100 for less than the retail of h95 and I’m much happier with it. If you’re interested in an integrated with digital inputs look at Yamahas integrated amps for under $1000. They will be a better deal and sound as good or better.

@banjospacecart
@banjospacecart 2 жыл бұрын
@@erics.4113 No worries lol. You're correct about pure wattage being higher on the Peachtree, but, to regurgitate stuff that I've heard, it's not just about watts (amps * voltage) but about current (amps) specifically. I'm no electrical engineer so that's about as much as I understand, but it's enough to make me curious. I've also only ever owned class D amps, so the A/AB topologies of products from Hegel, Naim, Parasound, etc. intrigue me even more. Also, for context, I have the smallest maggies they make in the LRSs, so they aren't quite as hungry as some of their other speakers
@erics.4113
@erics.4113 2 жыл бұрын
@@banjospacecart true about current. The Hegel's are known for incredibly high damping factors which indicate that their actual current availability is greater than their modest wattage figures would imply. On the topic of Hegel and AB, I would also like to try kinki studio exm1, musical fidelity m5 or m6si as well. I have two class ab but in a more modest tier than those offerings. @mike.thomas

FYI, I’m currently pretty disappointed in Naim (not NAD). Maybe that will change, but it doesn’t look good. My Uniti Star’s display went dark after a firmware update in October, and Naim has been basically useless. I did get one response to their support email that I sent 12/26/2021, but then they as well went dark WRT continued conversation on the matter. At this point I’d say save the substantial money and consider the Omnia (or something actually from NAD). You’d lose album cover art with the Omnia (but so have I!) and an arguably more beautiful and luxurious experience of the Naim, but I find myself gutted that I have a $6k unit with a dead display after two years of use, and a less-than-cheery dealer 2 hours away and radio silence from Naim. If you are in the states, be aware that Naim is hardly a household “name” here, and dealers are few and far between. Naim seems to be very dealer-oriented, so it’s kind of tough. I also have a Mu-so and a Mu-so Qb so it’s hard to just switch to some other platform and maintain whole-house audio without just resorting to Airplay 2. If I do that, I’d have to ask why did I go with Naim? There are lots of other options 🤷🏻‍♂️

@andrewrobinsonreviews
@andrewrobinsonreviews 2 жыл бұрын
@M WILLIAMS I can understand your hesitation. Do the Atom and the Omnia sound EXACTLY the same? No, but the two are very comparable. If anything the Omnia offers a little bit more by way of features compared to the Atom. Those features are "better" or newer built-in DAC, MQA support, a built-in phono preamp, CD player, more analog and digital audio inputs. Now, if you're big into streaming music, Play-Fi isn't as good as the NAIM music app IMHO, though both are far from perfect, so you're ultimately going to have to decide for yourself which fits your needs. But the Omnia will never have HDMI whereas you can configure the NAIM with HDMI, but doing so drives the cost up further so be aware of that. I hope this was helpful.

You may want to check to see if your "Digital Output Audio Format" (or whatever similarly named setting in your TV menu) is set to PCM. It depends on how the content you're playing back is encoded, but it's worth toggling between PCM, Dolby Digital, or whatever other options you see. Hopefully that helps!

@Andrew Robinson I have a weird, potentially hair-brained question for you! In a situation where the main listener pieces together a 5.1 surround setup for multiple sources such as TV, Console games, Home Theater PC, PC games - but all of the speakers are active Pro-Audio speakers utilizing RCA to XLR from Pre-Outs of an AVR - what technical hurdles may be unexpected? Specifically, 2x M-Audio BX8 D3, 2x M-Audio BX5a, 1x PreSonus Eris E44, and a Tapco SW-10 being run through Denon AVR-X3700H Pre-Outs with Audyssey used for Room Correction. eARC would go to an LG C1 OLED, and peripherals would be plugged into either the TV or the AVR depending on need for HDMI-CEC. Thoughts?

I would introduce an xlr switch for the front channels, then use a separate stereo preamp/dac that you can quickly switch over for music listening, it’s what I did and I get the best of both worlds. If you went with something like a Bluesound node, or a preamp with subwoofer out, you can even add another rca/xlr switch for the sub, that’s also what I did to share the sub between home cinema and music

This will definitely drive those speakers, and probably very well too. The only time I would worry about more power*, would be in the case of either or both of these. You either have a very large room, and/or you love to just crank it up and use it for whole home listening. And your home is very large, and/or has multiple floors to it. In normal usage though. I would expect you to be quite happy with this setup. And don't forget that it has a preamp output on it. So if you decide to upgrade later on. You could buy a nice power amp, and use that in place of the internal one. Or even a pair of mono blocks too. Then you could put them right near the speakers. And use (two very short runs of) high quality speaker wire without spending a fortune on it. Good luck. And if you remember to later. Please let us all know what you decided on, and how you made out. I, for one, would be very interested in hearing about it. ✌️ *(besides simple choice, some of us, like myself. Just have to have a lot of power for a few different reasons, but none of them actually matter all that much unless you're incredibly picky like I am)
