One of the things I like about Trollhunters is how they did not put Jim's father in without resorting to the cliche that his father is dead or that he is in another dimension or trapped in space, no! They directly say that their father abandoned them and left with his other partner (which sadly can happen in real life) some do not even get to know their parents either because they abandoned them or something the same happens with Jim, TOA handle that in a quite realistic way the truth and I love it

This is what makes the heroes of Arcadia real and relatable

The best part of TH is that Jim hadn't a father figure in his life, so a whole protection squad adopted him together. Strickler was more of a dad to Jim then his biological father, and he tried to kill the boy.

1:53 Part of me is glad that this was addressed I don't mind the "big reveals" that are done for the fanfics of this show. In canon, James Lake Sr was just a regular human being that left his wife and son for probably asinine reasons

It would be cool if James lake sr was a troll hunter and Jim was a changeling familiar a long time ago and his dad died saving jim or something Not a perfect idea but I thought it could be an interesting plot twist to his dads disappearing

Looking back at this great show, I do wish we could've gotten a flashback or a background photo of Jim's biological father. While the second one seems unlikely it's still something to wonder about.

Even in human form, Blinky doesn't look like James Lake Sr but looking at Stricklander.... I'm still confused, I mean you look at the character Stricklander in human form and then you look at the portrait of Jim's dad and imagine his dad without glasses!? So CONFUSING!!

If Trollhunters wasn't fantasy, it would've been a Criminal Minds episode. Like really, the show hints James Sr. was abusive, and Jim got the abuse internalized which explains his behavior towards Claire (control, assert dominance, even erotomania). But if I were to write all the points it would be a long psychological analysis

In the show Jim's dad was a horrible father. In the book Jim's mom was far from mother of the year. I wish they had gone for a middle point between what was written in the book and what became canon for the show.
