Until the 20th century, their main habitat was the Korean Peninsula, warmer than Russia. Of course, it has not been seen on the Korean Peninsula since the middle of the 20th century due to Japan's massive shooting. Therefore, the Korean ecosystem lost its predators. Tiger leopard wolf fox is gone and there is no natural enemy of the deers and wild boars. Only a tiny fraction of Shirasoni survive to hunt them down. I hope the lost predators of Korea will turn again someday.

Actually no the Amur Leopard population is going up. In the past couple years the number in the wild has risen from 60 in the wild, to over 80 in the wild. But yes, one wrong move could cause in extinction or at least a setback.

Yes, the Cheetah is not related to the Leopard. The Leopard, Jaguar, Tiger, and Lion, are considered the Big Cat (4), because of their Roaring voice, and they belong to the "Panthera" Big Cat Family.

Praveen Kumar I heard the Persian leopard is the biggest. But then again they say leopards that come in contact with lions, tigers, hyenas, and wild dogs normally hunt smaller prey (less weight to hoist up trees). Even if the same subspecies. An African leopard whos territory is flooded with hyenas is more than likely to go after a smaller prey animal than another African leopard of the same species that doesn't have to be harassed as often by hyenas. Also given that Sri Lankan Leopards don't have competition from tigers making them the dominant cat in that domain means they don't loose as many meals, thus making them go hungry far less than other subspecies. Yea, logically they would be the largest type of leopard.

yes! the reason is simple - if the individuals intermingle and roam freely, they never develope into subspecies. Africa is sparsely populated. so leopards roam freely and exchange of genes occurs a lot. whereas Asia is quite overpopulated. this has resulted in fragmentation of the leopard population. so these populations become isolated and with time, they develope into a different subspecies. :)
