that game had great potential but it's exclusivity to a Defeated Handheld limited it's sales (The PSP lost the battle to the Nintendo DS)

The reason Maverick Hunter X tanked in the sales department, the reason *most* Mega Man games released in the 2000s tanked in the sales department, is because Capcom released so many of them across the decade, leading to the series becoming oversaturated and the sales decreasing with time up until the series went on hiatus in 2011. After that, we got the Classic and X Legacy Collections in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and Mega Man 11 in 2018, the latter of which beat Mega Man 2 as the best selling game in the series.
