With the Optima gone, this all-new Kia K5 replaces it and competes against other midsize sedans like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and many more. It's very competitive in the sense that it offers a lot of features, great power, AWD, and good overall space and function. It may not be the best and there's certainly some apparent cost cutting, but Kia still did a great job at providing value with this new sedan. Model shown is the K5 GT.

This new K5 GT packs a punch with quite a lot to offer and a powerful engine. I enjoyed driving it but I definitely noticed some apparent areas of cost cutting (at least in this US market version). would have bought the GT version in a heartbeat if ONLY it had an option to add the AWD, I think I know why and understand, but still, I wish it would have add that option. It really needs AWD for that torque and prevention of torque spin at the front. Good review, thx

@@Terminator1138 i think you missed out, the GT grips quite well with the traction control on. Also has launch control feature. Plus its fun to burn some rubber now and then.

@@brianhechinger6726 we talking about the GT and not GT Line there from what I've seen no traction control as there is only FWD but maybe I missed something as well in the options. I know with the Pirelli it should grip really well, but if it has launch control and you "get on it" either with cornering or straight out, I wonder why other videos did not showcase the traction control because all the videos I watched has them losing grip, but yeah on burn outs I'm sure it is fun :P

@@Terminator1138 yes im talking GT, not GT line. I bought a red one. It has traction control that keeps the wheels from spinning unless you are in sport plus mode, where the control is automatically turned off. Some reviewers demo the launch control but maybe some others don’t know about it. I’ve also learned that if you change to summer tires, they grip better which requires less traction control intervention making the launch control even quicker. That’s why the Hyundai N-line with summer tire option will beat the GT by a hair on 0-60. Cheers

I just purchased a 2022 KIA K5 GT. It has the 2.5 engine W/ Turbo. I just drove it home (40 miles ). This car is scary fast ! I'll keep you posted as I get used to it. I love it !

THANK YOU FOR COVERING EVERYTHING BRUH YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE. definitely subbing and liking, i had been looking all over the country for one for months because i didnt wanna wait the 4-6 months to have one built. called every dealer around the country, luckily i finally found one with wolf grey with the chestnut brown and gt1 package like i wanted and its being delivered in 2 months. The GT1 Was important to me bc of the bose premium sound system.

honestly for me id take this 100% over the camry but when it come to the accord its like what my preference would be at the time

The interior might look that way but as soon as you start feeling around, the cost cutting becomes apparent... cheap hard plastic right above the gauge cluster and around where your knees would rest, and hard plastic on the back door top panels which doesn’t scream high end haha. Also missing some convenience features nearly all the competition have, like rain sensing wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror with home link controls, to name a few. For whatever reason, Kia seems to be cost cutting their lower end models and forcing you to go higher up the food chain of their models, which sucks because they used to do the exact opposite, hell the Forte used to have power folding mirrors and a heated steel with a ventilated drivers seat (unheard of for the compact sedan class, especially back in 2014-2017).

@@cjsgamingworld7568 the only thing the K5 gt is missing from your list is the rain sensing wipers. Pretty sure it has everything else. Heated and ventilated seats. No auto folding mirrors on close or walk up. Auto dimming mirrors are on it. Power on both seats. And can start up from their app and control all your climate and stuff as well from their app.

I know! They give us the 360 camera system for 2022 with the GT1 package, but you can’t use it for the Blind Spot View Monitor like you can with other Hyundai & Kia vehicles that have the same system

The K5 GT (and its closely related sibling the Sonata N-Line) is impressive. But its flaws go beyond a few cost cutting measures compared to the Korean (and some other international markets) version. First and foremost is the absence of an AWD option that's offered on the lower trim less powerful versions. That's disappointing but it's understandable. It's the same pattern followed by Toyota with the Camry and Nissan with the Altima -- AWD versions on less powerful trims but not on the "performance" versions. How come? The answer is simple. Despite the complaints of internet fanboys and self-styled "enthusiasts" high performance versions of midsize sedans are a drag on the market. The V6 version of the Camry, for example, accounts for less than 5% of all Camrys sold in the US. For Toyota that amounts to about 15,000 vehicles a year but for any other automaker the sales volume barely covers the cost of design and production. Adding AWD along with its increased cost is simply not a worthwhile investment. Further, KIA has another reason for not offering AWD in the K5 GT. It would seriously risk cannibalizing sales of the GT-Line Stinger that KIA hopes will be a volume seller and cure the traditional slow sales for the model. The GT-Line has the same excellent 2.5L turbo as the K5 GT along with rear wheel biased AWD, a more versatile liftback design and an MSRP about $5000 more than a fully loaded (GT1 optioned) K5 GT. But even if KIA should be given a pass for not offering AWD it doesn't excuse the fact that they don't at least offer an LSD (electronic or mechanical) to deal with the overabundance of torque in the K5 GT. It's worth noting Nolan's comments about the abundant torque in the K5 GT with only partial throttle. If he had pushed the pedal to the floor he'd no doubt be dealing with substantial wheel hop and torque steer as the vehicle struggles to put power to the pavement. What this means to the consumer is that opting for the K5 GT vs a fully loaded GT-Line with a smaller, less powerful engine and AWD (for $6000 less) is a questionable choice if it means the GT's more powerful engine can't be fully exploited. And if one can't resist the 2.5L turbo in the K5 GT, consider opting for the AWD GT-Line Stinger for about $5K more.

Well said, I'm pleased that kia makes the GT LINE, I bought one with premium package and like it very much. Its 99 percent identical to the GT, but with a sensible power output, a real automatic which makes it a perfectly fine daily, or cross country cruiser. The GT, Gt line, design is much more sporty than the EX design.

Unfortunately, it appears likely that those interested in the K5 GT could look instead at the GT-Line Stinger may be relevant for only this model year as it looks as if KIA has decided to discontinue the Stinger. That's sad but not surprising. I suspect that KIA has decided to put their performance "eggs" in the high powered versions of the K6 EV. If so, it's likely the beginning of a trend among automakers that will mean the decline of high performance ICE vehicles.

Not liking the door handle feature. Should of made it unlock when you put your hand behind the handle. Much more convenient. Do like that they have the panoramic sunroof though. Also they should of put the digital display instrument cluster like the ones in Korea.

Canadian models have more options than the American models. Dimming mirrors, folding mirrors, digital dash, heated and cooled seats. And one of my favorite... Defrost on the windshield. Very fast car... Especially off a rolling start.

There are several add on options for the K5 that come as kits from Kia dealerships (or ebay). One is the auto dimming rear view mirror with homelink. There’s also illuminated front step plates that have aluminum trim with a red led K5 logo. Another kit has all four aluminum step plates but not illuminated. There’s also a 16 color front ambient light kit that glows in the front foot wells, which absolutely can be installed with rear air ducts in the console despite what the instructions may state.

Definitely some cost cutting going on but that's nothing new for Kia. I always felt like Kia cost cut in the right places. For me I could care less about dimming mirriors, the car I drive now has em and I don't even notice em at all. Folding mirriors would've been nice but not a big deal. The rear door panels get hard touch plastics instead of soft touch like the front doors doesn't bother me, I spend my time up front anyways and I rarely have someone in my back seat. I would've love to have the led interior trim lights like the Korean market has, but not having the small overhead ambient light oh well, I mean I will eventually learn where everything is by muscle memory after driving the car for a while and that's something my car has now that I really just have no idea that it's there. I just feel like if your gonna cost cut these are the places to do it. I want one, the unique styling and power is attracting me a stand-out from your everywhere you look Accord, Camry, Altima etc. Now if only I could have them GT-Line red seats in the GT.

No digital dash but I think that the middle piece does have a blind spot camera on turns on the 2022 models. Unfortunate that the US didn’t get digital where other world markets did

What’s the difference in wind noise between this and the non GT K5? I find my GT line to be so quiet. Perhaps I’ve had loud cars before but I do find the noise to be minimal. Please let me know. I’m sad at your initial partial acceleration. I really want this car after my lease is up but if I’m going to get tire screeching on partial acceleration , idk that I’m sold 🙁 thanks for the video tho! Great review!

I agree! I have the GT version and it’s very quiet! One of the first things I noticed when I test drove it. Not sure why he gave a middle ground on cabin noise but I think it’s the best I’ve had in any car.

@@michaelarostegui7018 I don’t know If wheel spin is an issue, I never driven it that hard 🤷‍♂️ but I will say the car begs to be driven fast. The torque is unbelievable I think that’s the biggest thing! I almost got a GT line instead of the GT. I test drove them both and then I sat there and thought was it worth an extra $5000 for the GT. The GT line I was looking at was the special edition red leather seats wolf gray exterior. The GT was also wolf gray exterior with a black interior. The GT that I was looking at also had the GT 1 package $4000 option. I went to the dealership on a Sunday just to look at them and they were sitting side-by-side. Went back up there Monday first thing and got to decide which one I wanted before people started coming in. Both those cars were sold by noon. I knew that I had to get up there quick or I would have lost out.

You can get a Kia ambient light kit that installs in the console. 16 colors that glow in the front foot wells. I have it on my GT and looks great at night.

Sexy. saw one in black a few months ago at the dealer and at the Costco gas station. Black is mean and has a great stance. Waiting for them to add the digital dash HUD and a few other goodies like they have on foreign versions before I pull the trigger. LSD would be nice too. A front wheel drive hoot with all that power !!! Anyone on these threads dissing current KIAs is stuck back a decade I love my telluride and the tech features Kia is offering at these price points is unreal with 100k on the drivetrain you can’t beat it. I loved my old Honda’s but the Koreans are just crushing it lately. I also might have a look at the new EV6 from KIA

I decided on the GT-Line in part because I needed AWD. Which frankly should have been on the GT as well. All that power being put into the front end is somewhat wasted here. It's not ideal when the front tires are trying to drag the car around. Since when it accelerates it's weight shifts to the rear. With traction control off your just frying the tires with all that power behind it. The K-5 GT reminds me a bit of my 2006 Chevy Impala SS. It also was FWD & not in the best position to do so. When pulling 0-60 in less then 6 sec lol. The K-5 is actually a better car though. Even though it's less power becuse it is utilizing it's power distribution better which I suspect the GT will get eventually as well. Regardless the K-5 is a wonderful car here. KiA knocked it out of the park on this one. :b

The K5 GT is a very good looking ride! But as long as Toyota puts a naturally aspirated 3.5 v6 in the Camry, the Camry will be my choice! No 4 banger can match the sound of a v6.

Lots of cost cutting, it lacks features the previous gen Optima had like the 360 camera, power folding mirrors, etc. Looks great but I would much rather have other cars in the class like the Mazda 6 that are around the same price but offer more features,

@@johnfranklin5277 I disagree, Mazda has continually updated the 6 and it’s very competitive in its current form, though rumor has it a new model that’s RWD and has an inline 6 will be coming within 3 years. And the Mazda 6 is NOT $6K more lol, not even close. 2021 Signature w/o premium paint is $36,895 including destination. K5 GT is $36,045 including destination, and it lacks ALOT of features the Mazda 6 has, so it’s no competition which provides more and is a better value.

Its been 36 years since the CRAPPY Hyundai Excel. Ive been buying kia, Hyundai since 2005. Never an issue, no problems, happy customer. I now have this car , GT LINE, with premium package. It a great car, and I am happy with my purchase.

This is one of the things that deeply disappoints me about the Germans is they keep cutting corners where the top lines for Hyundai and Kia used to have leather seats now they're putting in full leather this is bullshit it's a downgrade for my 2015 and it's unacceptable and we should complain. They should know or discontent with the fact that they can't even provide leather seats in a $30,000 car

You are aware that BMW and MERCEDES use fake leather these days...right?? Using Real leather is not POLITICALLY CORRECT. PETA would be all over auto manufacturers for doing so.
