After seeing the traditional bushcraft camping chair a thousand times I started thinking of a new design. After playing with the idea for a few months I settled on a new one I like that's simple, packable, easy to set up and very comfortable.

Thanks for your contribution, sharing your camping, engineering ideas. I’m an old man, from East Tennessee. As time has gone by I have grown tired of sitting on the ground. Thank God there are guys like you, who make our lives better. I have almost no imagination, and no engineering skills. God be with you. I have lived a good long life, literally all over. I’m especially appreciative of this KZfaq, bringing your contributions right to me. Thanks 🙏

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Funny thing, you would think that but after 8 years on youtube and over 170 videos only one idea has been ripped off and it was a simple basic grill. I honestly believe that so many of my creations are so specialized that camp gear companies think its such a specialized small market that they wouldn't sell millions of units they they do on production items. Thanks for watching

You, Dave, are blessed with the mind of a machinist, and you fortunately have the experience of someone who makes things from a pattern and which were two dimensional and after you are done machining them, they are 3 dimensional and you can easily see how the pattern helped form the 2D object into 3D. The people who have never seen anything like that materialize may be completely boggled at how you explained it. But hopefully, you just helped thousands of people begin to see just what goes into the creating of a 3D object. :)

Great design and results. Relatively light weight, heavy duty, portable and compact...and you get to bushcraft the support in the woods. Can't beat it. When my small, old, lightweight wood and cloth chair goes out I'll be looking into your design. I think a good camp chair is often overlooked. Sure, they are not essential, but they make things better. Thank you for sharing, keep up the good work!

Nice one! As soon as you traced the cardboard for the sides I saw exactly where you were going! Glad to see the finished product put a smile on your face. I had to chuckle because pretty much every person I know is self-conscious about showing their sewing. I'm the same way. Actually, your sewing looks great. I really like the idea of backstitching every couple of inches to preserve the integrity of the seam if the thread gives way. Looking forward to seeing you develop this into a backpack.

Your sewing is improving. The creativity and problem solving for your sewing projects are off the charts! Extra stitching in stress eras is something most newbies miss, you nailed it. Coats and Clark is the best thread I've ever used and very strong because it is a coil wound thread. Great tip of the extra backstitching in the seat seam. This goes to show that if a man's, man, has nothing to fear about taking on this task of making a functional piece of equipment, others should follow suit if they desire. Great video.

Well done, Dave. That looks very comfortable and probably weighs almost nothing. Sewing is a very valuable skill for making camping gear. We've seen you make all sorts of item for use on the trail. I did a quick search and found "D" rings on Amazon for $7.99 for 50 pieces that would fit the size webbing you used. That could make setup much faster and easier. eBoot 50 Pack Metal D Ring, 1 Inch (Silver). I would like to see if I can make a paracord net that does the same thing.

Bro , I've got a channenge for ya? Try make a tipi with a 5 meter base . That size can be backpacked anywhere , and you just set up the poles in your favourite spot ! I've watched your posts for years and have suggested it befor , because you have the sewing skills , And they are the best tents ever created, you can safely have a big fire inside for winter !!! You will never need another tent !!! The best ones are 6 meter , because the smoke from the fire sits higher , but it's more of a permanent lodge ,at that size ! But 5 meter is easy to set up and backpack :) I hope your up to the challenge , you will love it , and could teach many others how good they are too !!! Peace from Australia , I lived in tipi for years , and I promise you will love them too !!!

I think it would make a great backpack cover just the way it is. Keep your gear dry on the way to your campsite, then turn it into a place to sit when you get there. I can also see it used with a tripod configuration if you don't have any large trees around.
@zoopercoolguy
@zoopercoolguy 5 жыл бұрын
If you tapered the top of the chair in a bit, you could cross the side logs above your head. Then, if the logs rolled in when you sit down, the crossed parts would lock in against the tree and prevent any further rolling. Your idea of using a tripod would work in that configuration, too. Just replace the tree with an additional log.
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Charles! It is shaped pretty close now, not much hopefully to convert it into a backpack. If no larges trees are available the logs can just be tied to two smaller trees spaced about two feet apart. Thanks for watching brother

Thank you for answering that you used 1 1/2 black webbing. ( Like I said put the mule tape in the two sides of the seams that was folded over twice from top to bottom. ) once again that is a great chair idea! Love your channel.

Look at you sewing and all. Impressive. I am about to embark on an idea I saw on Pinterest. I need a walking stick so want it to be multifunctional. I am attempting to make one myself.....never a good idea. But if you don't try you never know. This chair of yours has me thinking now. Arghhh great idea. As we expect. 👍👍

Hello Dave from the UK, what a brilliant tutorial ,that's the first time I've seen a bushcraft chair made like that and I must say it will probably catch on ,I've made some bushcraft chairs out of wood and secured with paracord but not as comfortable as the one you've made as always excellent video , me and my wife were wondering if you could maybe do a weekly video as we do look forward to them if possible thanks for sharing ♠️

Im sure it feels pretty amazing when you get to take a concept and turn it into reality! Once again, inspired by your creativity. Just a thought in support of your backpack idea...perhaps a flap off the top of the chair with velcro along the sides of the flap and the edges on the outside of the chair. You could the seal your equipment inside the chair for the backpack sack with the velcro. The flap could then be extended out over the top of the chair for shade. I am sure that whatever you come up with will be very cool!

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it Karen. It is good when a plan comes together. I had just planned on the back pack like it was then wear a poncho over it in case of rain. You are onto a good idea with that flap! Thanks for watching

Dave you certainly are incredible. Now with my health issues and available schedule to get into the woods has been impossible as of late, and to be honest I never thought I would even attempt the chair, but I hadn't seen your video on it so I watched it all. You are a very special person, with a very special family to lend us your time as they do. I know you make good money without anything from KZfaq and am not suggesting that you need extra money, because it is all fun for you and I for one, weather I ever am able to go into the woods again or not am enriched by your presence in this world, but I was thinking that maybe you could design something, like a machete or even a small knife that you could reasonably reproduce like a signature series kind of thing? I know you don't do this for the money, unlike many others KZfaq channels, not saying that is a bad thing , but I think many of us followers would just love to own something of your design. Food for thought, and I love you anyway.
@Reallybigmonkey1

Thanks Joe! Yes, I do this for fun. I think if I ever designed anything to sell I'm guessing it would be some kinda cooking device. No one will admit it but machete and knife designs have been perfected and there's really no reason to keep designing blades other than status or money. Take care and thanks for watching!

Excellent design! I can see how each person who makes one of these could add or subtract features to fit their individual purposes. (Pockets and loops for accessories when hunting or fishing for example) But I don’t think I could have come up with a better basic design. Awesome! Thank you for what you do.
