The all-new Lincoln Aviator is built on a shared real-wheel-drive platform with the Ford Explorer. Lincoln takes this new, capable platform and builds a true "traditional Luxury" SUV. It starts with solid styling and Aviation inspired cues on the outside and a high-end escape on the inside. The idea is to build a 7-passenger luxury SUV that allows the passengers to be surrounded in a sanctuary, removed from the outside world. To make this new Lincoln Aviator luxury SUV feel so effortless is plenty of power and a smooth and luxurious air suspension. The base engine is a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with 400hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque matched to a 10-speed automatic. Later a hybrid version will be available with 494hp and 630lb.-ft. of torque. The effortless luxury and power is a throwback to when Lincoln dominated luxury sales in North America. This approach is very different from what the German and Japanese are doing in this space.The front seats have 30-way adjustment and massage features, plus there is a camera system that reads the road to detect potholes and softens the suspension to make the ride alter smooth.The base suspension is a coil spring with active dampers. The al-new Lincoln Aviator is a major step in the right direction for Lincoln.

Cross shopped our Aviator with the Audi Q8 in Canada, Lincoln's loaded $86k MSRP, we paid $82k and the Audi was over $100k with similar options and less power. The ride is far better in the air susp Aviator on our rough roads. The materials and MMI are better in the Audi but not $20k better. The Grand Touring hybrids extra power is completely offset by 800 lb weight gain, it doesn't make sense for us and long highway journeys. Downside is there's some initial quality issues the dealer is sorting out, it has 4 year bumper to bumper warranty though.

Colt H, since you have an air susp Aviator, did you buy a fully equipped Reserve II model? How are you liking it so far? Are you impressed with the head-up display (HUD)? We're looking at ordering a new 2020 Lincoln Corsair Reserve II, with the optional 10-spoke 20" wheels and HUD.

@@richardb9591 Richard B Hi Richard, yes 802A model. Air suspension is a must have, I disagree completely with this review in that respect. The whole point is to isolate from bumps/potholes with a luxury car, which this guy should understand, and if you want it buttoned down switch to sport and it's stiff enough. The HUD is great, very clear and lots of info. If there's a weak point it's the cheaper door plastics and headliner, and to be honest the Revel upgraded stereo is a big let down. I have a 2019 Ram Laramie Longhorn with higher quality interior materials and a punchier, clearer stereo.
@richardb9591
@richardb9591 4 жыл бұрын
@@coltonhoffman Hi Colt, thanks for your comments. I agree with you 100% - if air suspension is optionally available on a given vehicle then it's a must have. There are plenty of bumps & potholes out there, and a luxury car should do its absolute best to isolate its occupants from that. That's disappointing about the cheaper door plastics (and the headliner?!), but I guess many/most of the automakers are guilty of using cheaper materials in places where people might not notice. But the headliner?? :( That's surprising about the Revel upgraded stereo in the Aviator. But then again.. I test drove a '20 Corsair 2.3 AWD Reserve 2 yesterday, which was equipped with the 14 speaker Revel upgraded stereo, and for me the sound quality was a big let down. I couldn't even figure out how to adjust the tone/equalizer in the audio system, or the balance/fade settings. I guess the settings are buried somewhere in the Sync 3 system, but I couldn't find them. It shouldn't be that hard! I was also disappointed with the Corsair's optional 24-way "Perfect Position" seats - too hard, not very comfortable and I couldn't find a perfect position. The Corsair Reserve's standard seats are much more comfortable, softer. By the way.. how are the 30-way perfect position seats in your Aviator? I think I may hold out now for the completely updated 2021 Lincoln Nautilus. Thanks, Richard

People can fight me on this, but the seats are not 30 way adjustable. They’re 15. Is the seat back going to move forward but not backward? Is the headrest going to move up but not down? No. Of course not. So in my view they’re counting each adjustment twice.
@GeorgeSoroceanu
@GeorgeSoroceanu 4 жыл бұрын
Well, you are right but, so are their legal advisors at Lincoln :) They said "30-way" not 30 axis. If you move something up, that's one way...move it down, it's the opposite way, even if it is the same vertical axis, for example. So, they are not counting it twice but, yes, it is just a gimmick to sound more complex than it is. After all, even 15 "ways" to adjust those seats are plenty ;)

Personally, I don't get any aviation-related cues to justify its name but, neither is the case for many other cars. I understand they are going after more traditional buyers but it looks a bit too conservative and forgettable, especially for a premium brand. Am I the only one who thinks that front looks like a mix of BMW F01 7 series headlamps and a KIA Sorento grille? ;)

What is a F01, how does BMW justify that name?
@GeorgeSoroceanu
@GeorgeSoroceanu 4 жыл бұрын
@@ronh2660 What do you mean? F01 is their internal designation, as a successor of E65 7 series and built until 2005. It is not a commercial name but it is easier to identify a certain generation by this code ( for example, the current S-class, if I am not wrong, is W222), a 1999-2005 3-series is an E46, the current 7-series as G11 etc. Most "petrolheads" refer to cars by their "factory" model designation, as it is faster to say BMW F01 instead of 2008-2015 BMW 7-series. :) In case you were thinking about it in relation to my remark about the name of Aviator, F01 has no connection with F1. ;)

@@GeorgeSoroceanu funny how you have one standard for BMW and another for Lincoln. Aviator is a name. F01, maybe conjuring up racing? Tell your work mates: Hey, I bought an F01!!! Their reply: Really, an F01!!! I always wanted a F01!!! Wow! A F01. Does it have vinyl seats, like most BMWs?

@@ronh2660 :) Look, I get very well your point but I am afraid you are missing mine. I am from Europe and I've never heard anyone using F01 or G11 or any other factory identifier of a BMW in order to praise it, in any sort of way. It is just a way to quickly and accurately point a certain model and generation. Actually, I don't understand what would be impressive regarding the F01 name...after all it's the code of a large sedan, not some roadster, to associate it somehow with Formula 1, if this is what you're implying. By the way, according to Wikipedia, latest generation of Lincoln Aviator is designated as U611...does it imply anything? I guess not...same with F01. Regarding vinyl seats, well, no, flagship SUV's don't come with those, as far as I know. Perhaps they sell it this way as basic trim in North America, so they can keep competitive prices (which are lower than in Europe). Anyway, the review is about the Lincoln Aviator, not about how BMW names its cars internally. In case my initial comment wasn't so clear, the idea is that I was expecting a more modern and original design, considering the fierce competition in the premium segment, not referring to build quality or reliability.

Paying for the supposed million ways you can adjust the seating b/c FAT Americans MUST have comfort at all costs. Their cars must resemble the Lazy Boys in their houses to convince them to leave the house to go where - - mostly just Costco and Target/taking kids to and from school. I'm sorry, but this excess in cars is disgusting to me. I am an American woman, btw, and I started watching these videos when I was in the market for a new car (which I never bought -- still driving a 2005 Corolla. It is reliable and all I need. The only thing is I don't feel safe in CA with these maniacs driving around in monster SUVs). I watch these videos now for amusement/entertainment but I think I need to stop b/c I find myself getting more and more annoyed by the excess and the price tags on these vehicles. It's a CAR -- to get you from one place to another. NOT a dang LIVING ROOM. I will NEVER go into debt for that.
