This channel is so underrated... definitely the best Jitz instructionals on KZfaq. This video is going to my library as the "definitive" guide to submissions from the kesa. Just amazing. I specially loved the detail about finishing the "americana" by pulling the head instead on cranking with the hips. I learned from more than one instructor to do the opposite, and probably because of that I never trusted in this submission a lot before.

Kesa my go to position for submissions anymore. Also, I found out when you get the bas rutten, if you cross your ankles and extend them it makes the submission super tight.

Yes, Nice! You are correct. There are a BUNCH of subs from the scarf hold. I've been the practice dummy for a LOT of the subs. Never tried the punch choke, but have practiced the no-gi Ezekiel but only when both arms are tied up.

Few things are better than slow cooking your partner for 30-60 seconds or so in Kesa. Takes so much out of the guy on bottom, while requiring minimal effort to maintain the pin. Definitely one of the more underrated positions.

Kudos, you’ve thought a bit more about that position. Really enjoyed the video. Viewers might benefit if you showed them on how to keep that position, in my opinion it’s more dangerous then mount in grappling but really takes years to learn, where mount is a more simplistic way to gain control, harder to submit, Ketsa is harder to control but just more dangerous in submission options. If you learn ketsa well you won’t want to be mount, unless you lost control. If you can control in ketsa, you are just a dangerous grappler.

Sir, I have a question regarding keeping your left knee up to put more pressure on the body of your opponent while holding him in Kesa Gatame. Sometimes I do that, but my Judo teacher keeps telling me to keep that leg firmly grounded lest the opponent coils his legs around my left leg finding an opening under my knee and turn me over. He performed that against me. Is there any small but crucial point that I am missing? Please explain. P.S: I am not questioning the techniques shown by you or my teacher. I am a Striker and relatively new to grappling. So, I am trying to learn and find a common and suitable technique for my own self. Thanks.
