Great video Jenny, a really rather large contrast from Sam’s video. There seem to be a lot of inconsistencies in qc atm

Sam bought his one, these are samples send by Rails. So I presume they have been tested, to make sure they are perfect in all aspects of finish, quality and of course running. I do not have a favourite, and I'd like a sound Rails one, but the bad QC is putting me of for the moment.

I don’t feel that people are hating on the Rails version. I do agree with Sam’s Trains however concerning the advertising of the term “pedigree terrier” which implies the Rails version are meant to be superior when it’s simply not the case. There are arguments for and against both variants. It’s just Rails attempted to be boastful in its advertising and it’s backfired on them as they aren’t as pedigree as one would have hoped. “Pride cometh before the fall” springs to mind.

I don’t have a problem with either manufacturers model, it’s more about the different examples for me, as I’m interested in the IOW Terriers only. Having said that, the SE&CR example would be another I would be interested in. I think the sound is superb and if available in the examples I want would be the ones I’d go for. Sound is easy to fit in the IOW examples I already have. Don’t put the Hornby models down though, they are excellent and have proven their worth. Excellent video!

Very thorough comparison! Very useful. It's an interesting and complex mix of which locomotives have more merit in which areas; the Hornby seems to be better in the cab roof, backhead detail, chimney interior colour and safety valve detail (but only slightly). The Dapol/Rails seems to be better in livery application details, DCC arrangements (from your earlier video), bunker, length, glazing and a number of the other respects that you identify. On balance, I think my preference would be for the Dapol/Rails version.

It's a pity hornby hasn't released WCPR 4 and 2 Portishead. Boxhill and Waddon are the only two A1 terriers to be preserved, although Waddon has an A1X boiler but kept its A1 smoke box so technically isn't an A1 or an A1X.

The Rails version might have a very slight edge but is it worth £30 more?? Apart from the roof issue I think the Rails Terrier has a less realistic representation of the wheels - unpainted plastic?!

Thank you so much Jenny for doing this review and comparing models with the Hornby versions too. I ordered the Brighton version and have to say was quite concerned after another very well known YT review on this model. However your review was balanced, fair and pointed out all the good. My model now has literally just arrived and Im so pleased with it. I completely agree the detailing, pipework, printing is exquisite. Regarding the seem on the roof, its hardly noticeable. Sometimes the camera can seem unkind when zooming in, highlighting things which are just not so obvious to the human eye. Im certainly looking forward to running mine now. Bless you Jenny thank you again for a great review.

Probably. I believe the 00 model is just the 0 gauge model scaled down so i could see them just scaling down the tooling even more for n gauge (although of course there might be compromises met seeing as the model is so tiny.

@@JenniferEKirk I don't think he has bad luck, but I think you might have good luck though. There have been many complaints about Hornby's large Prairie, and my experiences with identical models reflects his, such as the tender issue with Hornby's Star class and general build quality issues with Heljan products, and don't get me started on Bachmann. :)

I think some of the criticism of the Rail model is a bit pedantry. I mean the chassis is very slightly warped which I can see on the macro close up of the SE&CR model at the back of the water tank, but with the terrier models being so small, I don't see it on the model in real life. I'm happy with both my Hornby and Rails Terrier models, and I have one of each and two more Rails on order so....
@JenniferEKirk
@JenniferEKirk 3 жыл бұрын
Very much so. Given all the areas that this model is better, it leaves me thinking that a lot of people are blinded by their desperation for this version to be a failure.
@Decrepit_Productions
@Decrepit_Productions 3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a review I saw on another channel features a Terrier with appreciably more obvious running-board warp than anything seen here. It had other issues too. Had I received that particular Terrier I'd ask for an exchange or refund. But all these look fine, and I assume run well. Great sound too! Were I more than an armchair model railroader I'd be sorely tempted to invest in at least one variant.
@Gaspode_
@Gaspode_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@Decrepit_Productions The Sams Trains review had a few issues with bent runnig board and derailment. The derailments seemed possibly due to the wheels being out of gauge or the flanges being smaller. But I did note the bit of his track it derailed on looked quite badly twisted logitudally, from the camera angle he captured.
@jonathanb2622
@jonathanb2622 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gaspode_ In Sam's review every other 0-6-0 he ran over that particular section of track managed it perfectly but the Rails/Dapol Terrier derailed every single time - to me that suggests the track isn't the explanatory factor.
@Gaspode_
@Gaspode_ 3 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanb2622 To me it suggests it is certainly less forgiving of poor track, but that doesn't mean there is a fatal problem with the model per se. The Rails model might be more heavily weighted towards the rear, which would explain why the front wheel lifted over the twisted track on his curve (The rear wheels followed the track contours). That could potentially be solved by adding weight to the front to make it front biased, fixing the gauge issue (which should certaily not be like that from the factory), or fixing the track.

Hi, Sam was less lucky with his version. Yours 'seems' perfect. But it sounds like Covid infected. Poor unrealistic sound. One can not expect it to be good with this small speaker. But does it stay on the rails ???? Anyway QC seems not consistent. Rolls Royce you call this ????
@allmousemedia
@allmousemedia 3 жыл бұрын
The sound will never be as good on video as it is in person. The issue we have here is that the sound is coming out of a loco speaker, going into a microphone, getting processed for the video and then getting compressed by KZfaq. It’s never going to sound quite right after all that.

It is curious you should omit to mention the terrible fit of components onto the solebar across each model. 2644 front splasher. 82 smokebox. 751 tanks and cab. WCPR4 cab rear. They complain about the cab roof because its incredibly distracting and blindingly obvious. I think that you do make a good review. Much better than playing about on the carpet like one so called man. But you have focused on the pro's and ignored the con's here I am afraid.
