All Terraria Hooks Comparison & Tier List - Terraria 1.4.4.9

Hooks are a class of tools which aid the player in traversing terrain. When used, hooks fire a chain that latches to a surface or platform and pulls the player towards it. A hook is an essential tool which offers significant freedom from terrain height restrictions as well as being a fast movement option, and will often be the first major mobility tool a player acquires. A variety of hooks are available at all stages of the game.
In this video, you will see every hook in Terraria along with their respective characters and statistics. In this video I also created a tier list for them. It should be noted that each hook is assessed from various aspects such as difficulty to obtain, stage at which it is obtained, range and velocity. I hope this video can be entertaining and can also be used as consideration when choosing a hook.

@@locrianphantom3547 thats the problem. hooks arent used for building, theyre mainly used for their high velocity or evasion. the only good thing about atatic is that it has the highest reach in the game, but its so horrid since its a hardmode hook. thats why spider is better personally.

I actually really enjoy the squirrel hook. the ability to grapple trees makes it quite good for movement across the surface, before you have pylons and powerful speed accessories

I think jumping and grapling the floor for a speed boost works just better, especially when there's dozens of trees next to eachother

@michaelelischer1565 I just use the momentum from it to go forward faster, jump before I start slowing down, and then repeat. When there's somewhere with trees clustered together, it makes it hard to do the same strategy unless you just spam the grapple to move across them

Static Hook is great for building! but using any other hook would be a whole lot better when you're fighting

Love the vid but I gotta disagree with the queen slime, it makes you loose all your momentum which realy sucks in fights

It’s basically a backup RoD, sure you lose your momentum but it can potentially dodge a fatal attack

The worst thing about the basics grappling hook is that you never get the hook part drop early on when it's needed the most. And then when you already got some gem hook or found one that's better, you start getting tonns of hook parts which are now worthless) Web hook early game is actually not that bad, cause it can be get pretty early and it's one of the first multi hooks. Multi hooks are useful for situations when you want to hover in the middle of the room or cave. For example for fishing, building, or just to be in a safe spot from enemy reach. And I'm surprised that it's actually longer than the basic grappling, i remember back then it was really short. Now it's pretty decent for a stage of the game. Also yeah, static hook is a bit weird to use and needs to get used to, but actually it's really great for big scale building. Very comfortable to be able to hover in a spot and move in a straight line. However it is outclassed at the moment you got the first mount with infinite flight. My personal favourite is the hook of dissonance, cause it's fast moving, blink you instantly and got a decent range

I feel like static hook was way lower than it should cuz it allows you to position yourself with a lot of precision, unlike most hooks being sort of erratic by dragging you to whatever it sticks to. It's probably not the best for combat but for building and other activities it probably works well like some sort of platform
