This includes areas under direct control or a country proper, puppet states, or military occupations. The predecessors of a country is open to interperetation and is often arbitrary, so this video should be taken with a grain of salt. This video also merely focuses on Asia itself, and doesn't show any land that wouldn't be visible on the map.

Oman is also wrong. Oman had territory along the East African coast, along the coast of Arabia to just past Qatar, and the Persian coast directly north of Oman. Look up Omani Empire.

The turkic ones are interesting because considering their nomadic history their empires often change their positions or stretch so wide.

Yes. The Turks used to be the northern neighbors of Ancient China and Korea, but they have moved so far west until now they are almost at Europe. Very interesting that a group of people actually moved their entire nation's position from the eastern world to the western.

@@GeumJu You should know that the concept of Turk is only a race divided by "Turkic" (written in Altai). Today, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan were once so-called "Turks". The Turks who brought these to Europe were Turks who originated on the southern shore of the Aral Sea. They defeated the capital in an Iranian court plot, and Seljuk expanded into the Middle East (the Middle East is a transportation hub. You can go to most of the fertile land except Caucasus), so a small number of Turks and Kurds settled in the foothills of Asia minor, and to this day, most of Turkey is still of Greek descent.

6:28 For every Vietnamese, I gotta explain. The Guangzhou part of us are from the Nanyue kingdom, which invaded Au Lac. There's much of controversy that is Nanyue Vietnamese or Chinese. If you considered Nanyue the start of the integration of Chinese, the map must exclude these part. For this map, it considered Nanyue the last dynasty before the Han invaded Dunno what should I feel. As a Vietnamese my own.

Wait, a few things too that I need confirmed Didn't we reach Lan Na (Northern bit of Thailand) during the White Elephant War, and we occupied this weird panhandle in between modern Yunnan and Guangxi while the Tang Dynasty was still exploding? (We might've also occupied Nanning in 1071 and Guangzhouwan (now Zhanjiang) as a French colony still owned by French Indochina but those are included in Nam Việt's ownership of Liangguang)

I would say Nanyue was a mostly Chinese kingdom ruling over local Kra-Dai peoples, who were one of the "Yue/Yuet" (Old Chinese: Gwat) tribes named by the ancient Chinese. So no, Nanyue was not really Vietnamese, at least not the Guangdong and Guangxi part of it. It has more connection to modern Cantonese and Kra-Dai peoples. And the ruling house of Nanyue was Chinese, even though their government included prominent local Yue officials.

@@larshofler8298 Even Vietnamese history book recognized it as the start of Chinese integration. It has a large Chinese population, using Chinese as the main language and having a capital in China. Most of Vietnamese considered Nanyue as Chinese, as the name of "Triệu dynasty" However Nguyen Trai (a famous Vietnamese nobleman served Le Loi against the Ming) has made a poem, having a sentence (from *Trieu*, Dinh, Ly Tran, preserving independence). Which include the Nanyue. Also for translation, it kinda sound like "NamViet". Any source. It's still a controversy for Vietnamese their own.

Minor correction: India had more territory than whats shown. They had parts of Central Asia and China due to the Kushan Empire. Also the Chola dynasty extended into modern Thailand and into Bali Indonesia. Finally, they occupied a more territory near Bhutan. Other than that 2 thumbs up great video!

Turkey and Turkmenistan also wrong, Gokturks is the history of all Turkic countries. So it cant be added as a history of Anatolian Turks. Also Seljuk Empire was established in Modern Turkmenistan, ruled by oghuz tribe. Yeah it considered both Turkey's, Azerbaijan's, and Turkmenistan's history but still it was established in Turkmenistan, Rulers of Seljuks were from modern Turkmenistan

For the Philippines, much of the Pacific Islands that were once part of the Spanish Colonial Empire (such as Guam, the Marianas, Palau, Micronesia, etc.) were also part of the Philippines since they were administered by the Captaincy General of the Philippines after the independence of Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico)... So technically, much of the Pacific Islands were also once part of the Philippines, and back then they were collectively called as "Spanish East Indies", and their capital is Manila, which is, well, also the capital of the modern-day Republic of the Philippines...

China also occupied Champa (or 林邑) during the Han Dynasty, more of Afghanistan (to the extent that between 661 and 663 it occupied part of present-day Iran) during the Tang Dynasty, Palembang during the Ming Dynasty, and all of Sakhalin during the Qing Dynasty. In addition, the Ming Dynasty had colonial factories (or 官廠) in Malacca, Lhokseumawe, Calicut, and Hormuz, established by Zheng He.

The attention to details is preety insane. Those strange Russian borders in Afghanistan are territories controled by Soviet Army during its intervention in the country (1979-1989).Russians didn't go deeper into Afghanistan because the interior lands were controled by Mujahedeens and made an excelent ground for guerilla warfare so Russians simply stopped on controlling the highways surrounding the country.
