if you haven’t read the book, this movie is not lovely, romantic or sweet. i don’t know why they’ve advertised it like this. it is a heartbreaking story about painful love and death. it’s a good book, but only when read in the right way. i don’t know if they’ve made the movie a little more lighthearted, but if not, be mindful watching it. this is a HUGE trigger warning for mental illness & suicide

I should have prepared mentally when Finch told Violet “you gotta start pulling your own weight” like in my head I knew I should have expected his death....but he did an amazing job at saving Violet that I thought it was gonna be a happy ending. I didn’t know there is a book I watched it cuz I saw a scene in TT...I sobbed so hard in front of my daughter cuz I’ve been in Finch’s sister shoes...my little sister attempted suicide some time ago and I didn’t see the signs. I don't think he is afraid to become like their father.I think he just can't get out of his trauma that his father did to him.Usually you can't talk about your trauma but you still want others to understand why you behave like that. And they usually won't understand. That's painful.

DeliaJay right but the sister didn’t realize that’s how he was feeling. Her frustration about him asking about their dad shows she didn’t understand the fact that he was feeling like he’s inevitably wired like his dad and would do nothing but hurt those around him. Had she grasped that she would’ve saved his life by saying “you are nothing like our father, I love you and one day you will be a better father than he EVER was.

This movie reminded me of a young jeweller(somewhere between 21 and 24yrs) I knew who committed suicide and the horrible feeling I felt. I was engaged and saw a wedding band that I loved for my fiance, when I finally went to purchase the ring it was sold already. The jeweller told me he can get it made but it will just take some time, I had no problem with that as my wedding was late the following year. Ever so often I wud go after work to enquire or make a payment and every time he will greet me with the biggest smile and ask about my day and we will chat up about me, if I was having a bad day he wud say something to help cheer it up, sadly I never once asked about him or his day. When the ring was done he called me and told me, I collected it, made the final payment chat up and left. The nxt month I was in the mall so I decided to pass in to say hi to him and that was when his coworkers (also his family) told me what had happened. It turned out that he did it the very next day after he gave me the ring. I felt so horrible, I cudnt tell that he needed someone to ask him about his day. I felt useless and selfish. I wish I'd ask him about his day, I wish I didnt judge his big smile as I did, I wish I cud have been there for him just a little. That experience changed me, it helps me in my everyday interactions w people and it helps me in my profession (school guidance counsellor).

Its only cheesy if you look at it that way. When me and my ex dated we would say "cheesy" things like that to eachother from time to time and its not cringey if you actually mean it. If you liked someone and they said something like that to you how can you not feel good or love to hear that? The person cares about you and is comfortable with saying "cheesy" things about you. Most people push that person away (just like in the movie) but they care the most. Its shitty how alot of ppl are to other people.

Hey guys Fun Fact: the author of the book CHOSE THIS ACTOR!! Said he portrayed the best qualities of her character even if he didn’t physically resemble him. Get over it!! They cast a young black man and not some White, blue eyed grunge guy. Just because the blue eyes metaphor won’t be in the movie doesn’t mean it won’t be a great film. It’s disgusting to see so many people writing off this movie before they’ve even seen in based on the casting choice. This kid is attractive and talented and his film hasn’t even been seen yet and people are doubting him. I’m embarrassed for all the haters

In the way I see it, I don't find Finch when I look at him, he is GORGEOUS and personally I really find him attractive, however when I read the book Finch was described way differently than just by skin color, he was extremely tall and had long straight black hair. I am in no way a hater, I love the book and keep up daily with the authors online magazines. It's just heart breaking that we won't be able to see the version of finch we had in our mind while reading the book, and yes, it is disappointing for readers who truly enjoyed the book and it's every line.

I didn't cry reading the book. It was an excellent book, and it made me feel all kinds of ways. Personally, I thought the movie was less than its counterpart (too much left out), but the movie ending hit a lot differently than the book ending. I don't know if it was Elle's expressions, the music, or the voiceover. But from the moment I saw Embry watching her give the presentation I was full on ugly crying and I couldn't stop. It was this quote that did it.

After their wanderings, Violet then returned it to Finch when she came to know his situation. Just like her, Violet wants to make Finch to get out of his fears, doubts and dark place. On the latter part of the story, the stone was returned to Violet.
