Why would the product marketer be a part of the brand team? I've seen product marketers part of the tech or product team. Happy to hear your thoughts.

It's true that the product marketer can be situated in a few different teams, but our preferred structure is to have them in the brand team, with the brand strategist working at the level of strategy, positioning, and top level messaging, the product marketer working at the level of individual products, framing their unique value props, features, benefits, competitive advantages in conjunction with both Marketing and Product, and the brand manager helping maintain internal brand assets and project manage the delivery of all of the above to customer-facing marketing materials. The brand strategist likely has a direct line to senior Marketing leadership, while the product marketer has a direct line to Product leadership, and is a vital go-between to ensure the two departments are communicating well. Still, we consider it a marketing role first and foremost, and it therefore sits in Marketing.
