I learnt a new thing that Sattriya is included in recognised classical form. Also the listing of dancers isn't fair and very random. Kanak Rele who made Mohiniattam known outside Kerala is not mentioned. There are so many dancers not listed who have been grandmasters. So many missing from popular culture like Padmini, Ragini, Vaijyantimala etc. They could have said Radha and Raja Reddy family and mentioned K. V. Satyanarayana who performs both male n female parts and so many others. We have a very rich history of dancers who performed as form of worship and stayed away from limelight running Gurukuls and teaching students. This video is just an overview. Our dance traditions are just as rich as other components of our culture. 🌈🙏🏼

@@chiffchaff dude there are lots of people in our country who can pronounce any Indian name correctly, irrespective of the region they belong to. And it's a skill set which should have been considered while choosing the narrator here. And coming to the pronunciation of tabla, in bengal we call it 'tobla' but I wouldn't pronounce it like that when I am making a video for a pan-India audience. And the issue is exacerbated because the word 'tabela' does have a meaning, making the entire situation laughable. Point I'm trying to make is this guy was just not a suitable choice for the narrator of this video. So nobody is commenting on his accent, rather on the fact that he was chosen as the narrator.

OSR's conclusion is heartwarming and true! Thank you for recognizing the inherent oneness of the Indian civilization despite the diversity and differences in languages, religions, apparel, artforms, music, cuisine and contemporary preferences. The British falsely claim credit for 'creating' India. The truth is that the DNA of the subcontinent has been one through centuries of shared history and cultural evolution irrespective of the political landscape.

Most of the times Kathak gets related to Nawabs, mughals and courtesans since we have seen majorly Bollywood dancing Kathak whether Devdas or Pakeeza. It has the long history of purity and devotion wherein girls used to perform in the temples for devotion or telling story. External invaders came and during destruction of temples they used to pick up those girls and then Kathak shifted from temple to the King's court.
@saddha1
@saddha1 2 жыл бұрын
Are you serious? Dancing was a part of the royal court since the beginning of time. It was considered a privilege to perform in front of royalty.
@rudhirbhaskar3804
@rudhirbhaskar3804 2 жыл бұрын
@@saddha1 Kathak was purely a devotional dance form of North part of India , used to performed by Devdasi's in temple. During Mughal invasion, temple was major focus of destruction and hence they used to pick up those beautiful Devdasi's and took them to Royal court. Over a long period of time it became Royal court dance form.

Nonsense, kings always mention beautiful dancers in their courts. Urvashi in heavenly courts and of course Amarapali- they were not temple dancers. Devdasis were considered prostitutes - there was nothing “holy” about them.

There's so much more that could have been said about each of these beautiful dance forms, if only the narrator was not busy putting himself to sleep. The information provided is not accurate. For instance Bhatathnatyam originates in 1930s from Rukmini Devi Arundalr and other 'revivalists'. It has borrowed from earlier forms such as Sathiattam but it is very modern. The attempt to link it to religious symbolism and ancient texts is a process called classicalisation. It is an attempt to create credibility by appealing to ancient wisdom
