I grew up in a neighborhood in Brooklyn NY that had a large Jewish population. I was exposed to their holidays but always in the context of relating it to our Roman Catholic holidays. So Hanukah was the "Jewish Christmas", Rosh Hashanah was the "Jewish New Year's Day" and Purim was the "Jewish Halloween". Of course I realized the significance separately as I got older and now find other faiths' holiday celebrations very interesting.

My father was a theologian and Judeo- Christian scholar. We grew up surrounded by and learning from people of all faiths and got to experience many holy days from many faiths. I feel more people should learn these things. Thank you.

Oh! I knew about all of these, some only a passing knowledge of "why", some very familiar. But, woah, I have sure been pronouncing some of them wrong. I'm happy to learn the correct pronunciation. I live in Sullivan County, NY, with a significant Jewish population. I think some friends are just polite, and accept my mispronunciations. But now I can clean up my act. :) The Jewish calendar is interesting to me, as well. I know the criteria for how the Indian soli/lunar calendar resets, but I don't know the criteria for the Jewish calendar. It is probably not the same, since it resets at different intervals (although both are at approximately 3 year intervals, because that's how the solar and lunar cycles relate to each other). Only the Muslim calendar is purely lunar, and drifts blithely through the seasons - no biggie in the Middle East, but 'fun times' for Muslims well away from the equator. I just discovered your channel through a Facebook post today. Subscribing, and greatly looking forward to exploring your videos. Thank you!

My jewish teacher said most holidays can be described as "we thought we were going to die, God delivered us, lets eat!"
