This timeless off-roader from Toyota is completely new, and looks to do just about everything better than it ever has before. It's lost a third row of seats and 4 cylinders from the engine, but also $30k from it's base price. Is this the right recipe for the Land Cruiser?

I'd go for the 1958. I might have a local body shop paint the roof a contrasting color, as I love the look. I'd also look for after market bash guards. Now I just need to wait for sanity pricing from the (st)dealers. Look at what is included on the 1958, I don't consider it a basic model at all. Very happy Toyota got away from the $100K Land Cruisers (adjust 2021 price for inflation) and went back to their roots.

1958 is definitely the best value. Cool idea with the roof, you could also look into a vinyl wrap. Thanks for sharing!

MSRP aside, as of today most available models are jacked up by Toyota dealers at least $5-10k over MSRP. And most available seem to be black or underground which look nice clean but show every speck of dirt, water spots and pollen. The local dealer markups over MSRP turned me off from converting to Toyota after 20 years in Acuras.

Are you sure the cushion length adjuster is only available on the FE?

I’m sure this has been mentioned before but the 1958 doesn’t have the multi terrain select and the disconnecting front sway bar. So, not really *all* the off road features.

You are correct. I read that on a forum previously, but it was listed on Toyota’s website at the time I researched the video, I even remember double checking but that is what it says now of course lol. Thank you!

@@toptrims all good. I’m sure 99% of people will never disconnect the swaybar anyways and it wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me. I’d get the 1958 myself. Massive amount of work to put this together so thank you.

The new Landcruiser is as expensive or more expensive than the outgoing generation once you get it well-equipped. They are $85k-$90k with the right options. The $56k advertised starting price is for an absolute bare bones shell with absolutely no options.

The base MSRP of the outgoing model was well over $80k. The least expensive model for 2024 is still an incredibly capable modern off-road vehicle for someone who isn’t as concerned with higher end features. This is still a more accessible purchase for more people which seems like a move in the right direction. Thanks for the comment!

as the old LC200 US model was only sold as the top top luxury trim , as other markets had a basic base utilitarian model , price is why no one bought them does one need leather sunroof all the luxury car bits LC is should be a utilitarian off road wagon

Without a V8 or V6 engine there is no way to justify the high price for a 4cylider turbo engine. Putting a 4cylider turbo engine in a mid sized SUV 🚙 is not something most drivers will settle for.

Too bad almost all Toyota dealers are jacking up prices, $5, $10, even $20k over MSRP. Totally turned me off from my prior decision to buy one.

Dealers are selling them at MSRP. Yes there are some trying to fleece their customers but I got my FE for MSRP.

@jasonlivers. You are very lucky. I contacted about 8 dealers that had ads on Autotrader and each said either “not available for 8-12 months but I could put a $500 deposit to get on the wait list” or they said “we have a market adjustment of $7k for the 1958 and $13k for the FE”. I live in St. Louis but tried dealers in MN, IL, OH, TN and probably a few other states. I think I will just sit this out and not even look for six months, and then either consider buying a used one from someone that doesn’t like it for whatever reason or maybe a lot people on waiting lists will change their minds. What I won’t do is buy one from a dealer with an arrogant attitude. I wrote a bad Google maps review for a local dealer that advertised 3 models at MSRP who then told me he has added a $13k market adjustment. False internet pricing/advertising was my headline. I can’t imagine trusting their service department. You were very lucky.
