This could get really serious if they have a haunting and they believe the entity follows them around. Ouija Board is dangerous spiritual tool. Evil can only come by invitation in spiritual beliefs, and ouija board invites. That's why Laura was asking about "can it follow us back home", it surely could attach to her.

Yeah there are ghost hunters who have a lot of better viable equipment, and factor in the environment such as the location, the materials surrounding you like what the house is built of...basic science but still with a belief something is out there. I'm 50/50 skeptical and believer but this was a cheap fun trip for them and they had fun. So I'm glad they did have fun, of course. It's like an escape room or haunted house, you're not actually in those situations, you pay for that entertainment and thrill.

That wasn't cold reading, for a cold reading you say vague things that could apply to anyone, you don't give names or have specifics like that. Not to mention that he would be charging to let people through his "haunted" home. Who the hell wears a t-shirt to his business, let alone a tie dyed one? He is so scamming people, and making bank from it too by the look of the memorabilia. Although a big part of my judgement comes from his clothes, if he had of been wearing a normal polo or button down shirt I would have still called it a scam but figured he is providing an entertainment service rather than just straight scamming. In saying that, I wonder how much he charges, that would flavour my opinion further.

The feeling they got was probably CO2. Seal a house with good energy efficient windows and doors, turn off/down the HVAC, then have somebody stay in the house for a while. The CO2 levels will get a bit high, youll feel a little off, nauseous, a slight headache coming on, but you won’t be in any danger. Combined with them being told that such a feeling was possible, and I’m not surprised at all they felt something like that. This happens if you seal up the vents in a car and recirculate the AC for a while. It depends on how many people are in the car, but it will take 2 hours for just one person in my experience of longer solo road trips. For it to happen in a large house with all the doors to different rooms open... I don't think it would be easy to pull off unless there's equipment churning out CO2 in a highly concentrated area.

Yeah. Not sure if this was one of them, but a common tactic mediums use is to feed you fairly vague information in a way that sounds super specific in order to goad you into filling in the blanks. Notice how she never once said that she knew who they were, when they lived, where they lived, or what their importance was to Liam's life. All she said was effectively "It's a male relative from the 40s" which basically everyone has. Also, those sticks seemed a bit suspicious. "I can't control them" is probably a lie, because towards the end it started to answer her questions before she even finished saying them.

I'm a huge skeptic, having seen Derren Brown use cold reading on multiple groups of people and come out with hugely personal and specific information, even as he explains that he's NOT a psychic and that he's using contextual clues and mentalist tricks etc. Usually I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and try to assume that self proclaimed psychics might be cold reading without even realising that's what they're doing, and legitimately believe in their own abilities, but actually, watching the interaction between Liam and that medium made me really uncomfortable. That's the first time I feel like I've witnessed someone actually try to do a cold reading, and then have to back off when the person they were targeting didn't lean into it enough/respond enough, so she had to move on to something else (tossing out a fairly common name and then confirming the person who recognizes it is who it's intended for, getting from the question of gender it should probably be the subversion of the expectation for the name, etc.) I really don't want to believe any mediums out there are deliberately taking advantage of people's grief, but I watch a lot of this kind of thing and I've never felt that more than with this particular seance.

Honestly, all of this stuff is a grift. The equipment is purposefully inaccurate and in some cases detuned. The x-box camera is a perfect example. It is designed to "find" a human form to apply movement to. So they just turn the sensitivity way up and it turns almost everything into a human shaped stick figure. Look at when a person goes it front of it. All of those dots and lines are because the sensitivity is turned way up. If it weren't Liam would have had a simple stick figure super-imposed over him. Their cameras are purposefully low resolution, their microphones are turned way up so they distort very low noises, etc. etc. They know exactly what they are doing and have found ways to monetize it.

as someone who ran a "haunted house" for a college group, it's very easy to fake these electronic readings. You can literally just float your phone next to one of those machines, and it'll ping as one or two on a meter. Also, mediums are easy to get. They're just people who are very good at "reading" emotions and guessing. They can do cold or hot readings. Cold readings are guesses. Hot readings involve some research. Ouji boards are always manipulated by someone. You can pay to plant someone to do it, or you can do it yourself to manipulate the planchette in one direction or another. Silly fun, but none of it is paranormal :P

Yeah, and I mean, they did a neutral review afterwards, without attacking or disrespecting the workers during the experience, which makes for a fun thing to watch for both parties, except the hardcore believers or.. anti-believers? Plus, considering how Laura knows *a lot* about manipulation and negotiation techniques, I'm inclined to think the occult is for her like pajama pants: You get them for what they are, you're happy to wear them, but you wouldn't work at an office with them. That is, she likes the occult as a distraction and performance, but I don't think she hard-believes in it. At least on the subject of mediums.

She's going to take everything she learned from them to become a better scam artist sooner or later she's going to find an honestly desperate(dead child, lost love one) mark and drain them. Yeah. All of those apps are fake too. Even people who believe in ghosts should be able to fairly easily tell that those apps are fake. The reason? iPhones don't have thermal cameras in them. Thermal cameras are like, a real, specialized type of camera that you can't really get in a phone, save for maybe that like Red Camera Phone thing. Any "thermal camera" app is likely just highlighting in red anything that it can identify to already be a living source, it can't tell you the actual temp. Anything that looks like a human (which is fairly easy to identify, especially given software that is designed to highlight your face for selfies and stuff) can just be colored in red. This is why random things can show up, because there are likely anomalies and bugs with the detection software. The same thing is true for that kinect they rigged up. That microphone app seems to be listening to conversations and spitting out contextual words (which Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft already have very competent assistants that do that). A lot of those "signal readers" they handed them are also likely bs. The one that picked up adjacent electricity can easily pick up static electricity, (created by literally almost everything), or the house had bad wiring or something.

My main point was that none of that technology was malfunctioning. The tone probe, for example, wasn't malfunctioning, that's just the default sound it makes when there is no tone detected. The food thermometer wasn't malfunctioning, they're just not made to measure air temp and will be extremely inaccurate and fluctuate wildly when not in direct contact with what they're measuring. The Xbox Kinect wasn't malfunctioning, that's just how it acts when you've got the sensitivity turned up to max, not to mention whatever programs he was running on the iPad. Etc, etc. You are correct that I don't know for sure that this guy is purposely misusing all of that stuff, but based on this and previous videos I've seen of him, I'd be willing to bet he's just another con artist who knows exactly what he's doing.

The less people try to disprove things, the more skeptical I am. Stuff like the tech, especially things like the proximity beacon and the stick-figure camera especially. There could be so many explanations for stuff like that showing up, including the fact that tech is just finicky sometimes. And the more someone freaks themself out over a place, the more likely they are to "sense" something. I'm more willing to believe when you've actually gone through whatever evidence you've collected and done your best to debunk it and you've arrived at something you can't think of an explanation for.
