A phase is a group of related words which perform a particular function.
A noun phrase, thus, functions in the same way that nouns function in sentences. These functions are; subject, object [direct & indirect], complement, object of a preposition and apposition.
These various functions are explained with enough examples to help students easily identify noun phrases and their functions.
