Ooh nice. I noticed the FPV footage. You own an FPV drone? I'm currently in Kenya and looking to buy one, preferably an RTF one. Where can I get an fpv to buy in Kenya? I'm in Kiambu at the moment

Any changes on the rules so far? Especially regarding the registration wen importing a drone into kenya? Suppose i am to order it thru a third party like kentex cargo. Then on whose name is it registered?

Importing is still illegal and the charges are not yet official. No idea how long it's going to take

Hello. Weight is upto 25kgs which all still need to be registered. There's 3 categories to it. On pricing, am yet to get feedback on it and will update description when I get it.

hello does this mean that if ibuy a drone that costs only 8k I will still need to register with KCAA?

According to the law, as long as it's a drone that is being flown outside, you must register it. We are hoping there will be some exemptions made especially on weight but it's yet to happen.

Thank you very much for that explanation. I am a Kenyan living abroad and I would like to bring my small drone (DJI Mini 2) on holidays. What can you advise me to do? The drone weighs only 249 grams but it has a camera. I know you know that. What is the registration fee to fly a drone under 250 grams in 2021? Thank you very much

You will be better off getting a new drone while here. The drone costs 60k kshs. Bringing yours, license etc will be upwards of 100k.

@@ShadageeksTV Spending 61,000 for another drone while I already have one is very expensive. The Kenyan government knows hoe to frustrate people 61k is not small money to fly a drone for just a month

Yes. The law is currently restrictive and is almost similar to other laws like the dJ performance license that was controversial. They just stifle creativity and innovation. I will do a follow up on the prices in another video soon.

It's funny that anything you wanna do with the drone, you gotta inform the kcaa. I wish 100,000 Kenyans will all buy a drone in one week and all line up to the kcaa.

The rules are law. The charges have not yet been released though. That is to be done by KCAA and they are taking their sweet time unfortunately.

It is safer to hire one locally. I have heard a few cases of drones being confiscated at the airport & I am not sure of the procedure.

I have one which has a camera but it only flies 100m and has a flight time of about 15 minutes.Is it considered under the ategory of toys or profesinal drones?

Retrogressive laws that hinder innovation and creativity in a time when the world is going digital and becoming more and more a global village. 150,000 to 'train to fly a 600 dollar item that has a manual and free tutorials, and yearly licensing thereafter... Has anyone thought of legislation for unmanned water crafts- or is that also going to be an over-reaction by the Govt at that point?-

Haha. Read the 6.1.a again. It says "Kenyan Citizen or *RESIDENT in KENYA* of minimum age of eighteen years" That applies to ALL foreigners who are in Kenya. If you're physically in Kenya, you're technically a resident. The law doesn't mention what TYPE of resident you are, whether refugee, tourist, with temporal resident permit or whatnot. Such clauses are thrown in to allow the spinning of the law. Ghana drone regulations have something similar too. In summary, foreigners can own and operate a drone as long as they abide by the other parts of the laws you mentioned. A foreigner doesn't need a kenyan citizen or company to operate a drone

Good point that I have to confirm with a lawyer. Although if we think of national parks, there's pricing for tourists and for residents. It might be wrong to assume a tourist visiting for a few days is a resident. I'll confirm though when I do updated video on the situation.
