The King is dead and the next line is the prince. Shame he's too busy down the pub.

this fascination we have for a figurehead institution, all pomp and circumstance, blown all out of proportion, except for the tourists who come to bathe in the spectacle. Makes the rest of the crowned heads of Europe happy the constant spotlight isn't on them, and they can go on with the business of being head of state without too much interference.

you know, if you head into watching this with the knowledge that it's going to be very unrealistic, and it's just a bit of fun, it's much more enjoyable! if you try to think of it as them saying this is how it really is, you'll hate it. if you see it as poking fun and playing around, it's much better.

+sprinklefriend This "parallel universe" idea is very weak compared with the novel "The Queen and I" where the UK becomes a republic and the Royal Family has to live in Council flats. The novel is hilarious, this, not so much.

Thank you for sharing - However, I find it hard to believe that a Price would be so surprised to become the new King. He would've been groomed since birth that this was his destiny and while maybe he'd be 'set back' by the death of his father it's not as though he shouldn't have expected it. Maybe the next episode will improve but so far this is crap.

In the late 1940s-early 1950s, whenever the then Princess Elizabeth traveled abroad (outside the United Kingdom) she was well-aware of her father's ill health and though it might have seemed calculated to a non-royal person, always packed a suitcase full of black mourning clothes. This included her trip to South Africa with Prince Philip, where they were staying at Treetops Hotel and observing the wild animals, when they received news of the death of the king. Though "The Palace" is fictional, Richard's father is regarded as being in good physical condition and expected to live for at least 20 years more. The present Queen was born in 1926 and her heir apparent, Prince Charles was born in 1948, and is now nearly 20 years older than Edward the Seventh was when he inherited the throne in 1901 after HIS mother's reign of 63 years. The fictional Richard is only in his early 20s and very immature, not to mention unprepared for the rigors of constitutional monarchy.

What horrible people and system; if I were a part of a Royal Family in this kind of situation and couldn’t change it, I’d happily give-up My right to the throne - and get as far away from all of it, as possible. Argh; it’s just so frustrating that Human greed, arrogance, ambition, egotism, narcissism, competitiveness, selfishness (…) mess up any/every System of Government possible - given time. …I feel as though - in This World, and with Humans as we are - there is no good-solution.

The one thing that is accurate of any monarchy at any time in history is the plotting and intrigue. No monarch could ever entirely trust any individual including family or one's own mother. In fact no leader of a tribe or nation. It is indeed a lonely and thankless job. The perks are wealth, a certain amount of power and control and never having to clean your own toilet, do your own laundry or be bothered by basic needs or the mundane tasks of everyday life. As it is filmed in back of beyond Lithuania they should have written also a mythical monarchy. Making it England poses too many questions and conflicts I find. The show itself has too much of that American rubbish about it, pandering to the lowest tastes of an audience. Possibly they are also people who despise the British Monarchy and this their only way to backhandedly express it. There are some well known and fine actors as well as some terrible actors in this so one must take the bad with the good. I like Rupert Evans who was the reason I looked for this. Having just seen him in "Sons and Lovers" I think He has the potential for being a fine actor. Only hope he doesn't settle for the American way, cheap, easy path bad tele films for money and instant celebrity with no substance. Having said that I appreciate the upload as I would never have the opportunity to see this on the continent. Cheers.
@littlelight918110 жыл бұрын
why not look at it from a different angle, what is your 'substance', is not necessarily his/hers, history is 'moving on' and leaves monarchy for the PAST, time to look toward future where people are equal and not born with banks, countries and modern slaves to own all over the world... how about that for a change ! it's coming, you like it or not
@littlelight918110 жыл бұрын
and no i do not despise monarchy, in the past it was necessary, but not anymore, people have grown up now and are able to take care of themselves without being told what to do and how to live. royalties are just normal people like anyone else, i bet some would like to have the same freedom and live the normal life others do.
