This beautiful edition of the 52 Longprimer is bound in a soft Dark Green Meriva natural grain calfskin with a generous semi-yapp cover, and is leather-lined in navy split calfskin, with gilt line round the inside of the case, and features double-sprayed red under gold art gilt page edges and three eau de nil (light green) ribbon markers with white head and tail bands.
Revised edition includes our distinctive 8pp Presentation Page and Family Record as well as 32pp of navy feint rule Allan notepaper in addition to the dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.
First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Our latest Longprimer printings hark back to a vintage copy of the classic Longprimer, printed in the period 1952-1958 under Charles Batey, then Printer to the University of Oxford, returning to a page image that is much closer to the original intentions of the typesetters. This new-old page image retains the large, clear type of the Longprimer we all know and love, but has a crisper letter form and less of the broken type and 'spread' that mark out much-used letterpress typesettings subsequently transferred to film and, only more recently, to digital scans.

I just got this bible in the latest round online which sold out straightaway because I missed out 3 years ago, and it is really stunning. Better than any photo could do it justice. I also hope they can bind ESV readers in the same color way. Thanks for a great review, touching the main features of this beauty

I have the Longprimer 52 in Brown. I agree, it is in my opinion a perfect Bible: size, layout,font, materials, etc. I love it. I also got the Longprimer 62 Sovereign in green. Some think it is too large to be a Bible to carry around with you and take to church, etc. I don't have any problem with it's size. Love it. Enjoy your videos. I am shopping around to buy either a allen( this bible in particular) or a Schuyler Canterbury. Well, your video helped sealed the deal, I will buy the allen green calf skin. Thanks brother....

Thanks for the great video. I just bought this exact bible. I think the green is the most beautiful. Purple would have been my first choice but this one is beautiful with the red guilt. Gives it a modern edge. I would have loved to get the red but idk if it’s the guilt or the ribbons that I wasn’t feeling. I’m very excited to use these center column references!

I agree that it may be the perfect bible. I have the black one but considering getting one in green also. It's that good. The references are excellent. The font is so crisp and clear. Minimal ghosting. Very nice size and style of font. I prefer the 52 longprimer over the 62 sovereign because the 52 is smaller, easier to handle and has a smaller outer margin. Another quality bible I would recommend is Cambridge, the turquoise, concord or cameo are excellent.

You wouldn't happen to know what the font size is for the "Subject Index," part of the Bible by chance? My older eyes would like a good font size for the tools in the back also. Thank you and God bless.

Looks as though the text falls too closely in at the gutter. Also, while the Bible has a nice font, there is no room for notes. Nice masculine color though. I would love to see more versions printed too, but there would have to be far too many changes made before I would consider spending a great amount of money on one of these. Love the lack of texture on the cover, and the tooling defining the text block underneath.

What about the 62 and 63 Longprimer last they had a yellow limited edition.once I want a limited edition rare to get your hands on one😥

Yes, some editions are rare. I tend to like more understated designs and colors rather than ones that stand out a lot. But one unique edition that I really would love to have is the petrol blue Allan Bible.

@@abigailhortencia5901 I do not own the 62, but I believe it is very similar to the 52 but a bit larger and with larger margins. I really like the size of the 52 personally, but some people like the extra margin space.

Thanks for the review-really enjoyed it. Did you notice in John 3, the page title says “ Christ purgeth the temple” . John 3 has nothing to do with that, it happened in John 2. Does your copy also say the same thing?

The problems I have with the Longprimer are twofold: first, the removal of the italics; second, the replacement of the translation notes in the reference suite with ones that frequently cast aspersions on the translation (a fault which it shares with the Blackface).

I have the very same reservations about this classic edition. No italics and the inclusion of modern translation’s readings in the references. An attempt to show preference for the critical text above the TR? Or just a fondness towards the translation style of the more modern bible versions? Either way these alternate readings really shouldn’t be appearing in a King James Bible since there is such debate concerning the accuracy of one against the other.

@@kylec8950 It's one fault I also have with the Oxford and Collins Longprimers. (The Oxford Longprimer also has *cough*questionable*cough* notes, a problem it shares with the Brevier Blackface.)

@@fnjesusfreak Hah, do you have any recommendations for a good KJV reader? I prefer single column but those are hard to find in KJV.
