Todays players are worried about “their brand” how they can maximize their earning potential, personal stats, and social media likes. Bird just worried about winning, and making his team mates better. That’s why he’s the best player ever. Jordan is a close second, old school guys where winning brought everting else.

Its funny to see Larry Bird get bashful, and uncomfortable hearing people talk about him. You can see what kind of person he is just by his actions. He never talks about himself, he never has to come to his own defense, or argue about his position in the GOAT discussion..... Because he don't have to.... He played 13 years in the NBA and left his mark on the game that very few have came close to. Great video.

Bird's pass to DJ one of the GOAT passes 1984 Lakers vs Celtics Finals
@user-ly1xt4zi4x
@user-ly1xt4zi4x Ай бұрын
Bird's steal of Isiah's pass to Laimbeer in Game 5 of The 1987 Eastern Conference Finals...and pass to DJ for the winning layup....surpasses that 84 pass to DJ (even though The Celtics won in 84 and ended up losing in 6 in 87 to The Fakers, due to injuries/having to navigate a HELLA TOUGH Eastern Conference, while The Fakers had a cake walk to The Finals with the cream puffs they demolished). Still, Len Bias dying, Kevin McHale playing on a broken ankle for 3 months, Danny Ainge getting injured at the end of Game 7 against Detroit on a dirty foul by Isiah Thomas....which hurt his ability to contribute in The Finals against The Fakers. Even Parrish was beat up...both his ankles were terrorized by Laimbeer finding ways to come down on Parrish's ankles....finding ways to force Parrish to 'roll over on his ankle/ankles'. Regardless of all of that...The Celtics gave The Fakers a tough 6 game series (an inch to the middle of the basket on that last shot by Bird at the end of Game 4 of The 87 Finals...it would have went 7 games...and anything can happen in a 7th game. The Fakers have never beat The Celtics in a 7th game. Larry Bird was the king of 7th games! I just wish that Len Bias hadnt been freebasing coke. Dude was so gifted...he had Jordan-like talent. People forget the skills Bias had! Dude had hops, a soft touch from both inside the paint and a soft jumper that flowed into the basket. He could run the court like a deer....and finish with authority with his dunks! He was an underrated passer and rebounder too. However we'll never got to know how well his game would have transferred to The NBA.

Never a bad time for a Larry Bird story. The 1978-79 Celtics had 29 wins. The 1979-80 Celtics got rid of Bob McAdoo and started rookie Larry Bird and won 61 games, a +32 win improvement due to one rookie. The other four starters (Cowens, Ford, Acrhibald, Maxwell) were the same in both seasons. Bird led the team in scoring, rebounding, and was second in assists. More importantly, he hated to lose and made everyone on the court better.

Can anyone verify Walton's tale of a successful 25-point Celtics comeback in Atlanta during the mid to late-80s?
@paulj.5542
@paulj.5542 11 ай бұрын
Okay, the story is true but Walton embellished a bit about Larry Bird's performance. That game was played on January 18th, 1986. The Hawks had actually built up a lead of 27 points before settling for a 70-48 lead at halftime. Walton said in this video that Bird hit eleven straight shots in the 3rd quarter including 7 three-pointers, but that part was exaggerated. Bird finished with 15 shots made in 27 attempts as the Celtics won the game in overtime, 125-122.
