Great job Aaron, nice steel shank now, and complete leather recraft. Your customer will be very happy with that work you did. Thanks for the tip on rough out care, I didn't realize it was so easy !!

From grade “C” quality (regardless of it’s not worth MSRP) pair of boots to now truly grade “A” boots.

I think next time I head to LA I'll bring my old Chisholm boots. Nothing major just need this piece of plastic and the bottom layer of rubber replaced on the heal.

Cutting corners to "so-called" keep the manufacturing prices down while making the boot here in the US. I'd rather they raise the standards and the prices and start innovating their product to encompass more of an audience that would buy their product. They don't make women's shoes or boots, and they don't throw their hats into the tennis shoe market. They don't do anything new except cut quality and end cost to the product.

they do make tennis shoes.

The fact they make so many different styles and shoes is part of the problem not a solution. Once a company tries to tap into every single market they become jack of all trades master of none and typically start cutting more corners. I agree a women's selection would make sense though.

Why didn't you create a channel for the stitching?
@sisleymichael

If the stitching is below the sole, the thread does not get worn away.

@@sisleymichael but it wasn't below the sole. It was flush with the sole surely.

@@robertbradshaw9367 *Yea I also wondered about that. When the stitching is inside the channel, then it doesn't get worn away. It helps the sole last longer I'd think, and keep the sole from separating from the shoe. Because when the stitching is outside the sole, and not inside a channel, it will get worn down. Then you're relying on the glue and nails to keep your soles on. Those are pretty strong as well. So maybe perhaps when the stitches are worn away, the risk of the sole starting to detach is pretty little, since you'd still have the glue and nails holding the soles on. But yea, having a channel is very nice to have to preserve the stitching for more longevity of the shoes!*

Nice job Aaron! I have these exact boots. It’s a waxed suede that has a separate and stitched smooth leather lining on the inside. I find these black Dainite soles to be very soft. If I decide to keep mine, I may send them to you for a leather or a Dr. Sole option. 😃

Not only a cardboard heel but that looks like a Texon insole as well. Not much better than a Thursday boot other than a better fit (for me at least.) It's getting bad out there. I watched another cobbler take apart some Red Wing Beckmans to find the combination sole was cardboard not leather and the heel rand was plastic. Sad.

Is there a reason they do the wooden shank instead of metal?
@lolkthnxbai

it works just as well as a metal shank in most cases and doesn't set off metal detectors.
