In this video I take my new digital mixing system out of the box for the first time. This consists of the Allen & Heath QU-24 Chrome Edition digital mixing desk, Allen & Heath audio rack AR2412 dSnake digital stagebox, Swan Flight plywood hex flightcase for the QU24 and the Decksaver QU24 dust cover that I intend to use as a protector for at gigs.
This video is primarily a quick unboxing and overview, just showing what comes in the boxes and what you should expect if you were to purchase any of this equipment.
I purchased the QU24 console, AudioRack & Swan flight case from PMT Manchester. around August 2017 and have used it on a few gigs since (see the 'Behind The Desk' videos on my channel). I would have uploaded this sooner but I misplaced the video footage up until now - I guess it's better late than never.
This is my first digital mixing desk console ever! I have only previously used analogue mixing desks from Soundcraft, Allen & Heath, Studiomaster, Mackie and the likes so this is quite a transition / change.
I have previously borrowed a QU16 console on a few occasions and after getting my head around the routing and layers switching it seemed like a solid desk. So far I am happy with the purchase and I am still to this date finding different ways of using my QU24 and setting it up.
I plan to make some videos on the setup procedure soon as well in the hopes they will help others making the transition into working on digital mixing consoles.
I am not getting rid of my analogue rig all together however, I will be keeping both systems in operation as sometimes Analogue is more quick and flexible especially when more than one person is working with the mixing desk or you are frequently changing bands and acts. There is also a certain warmth and overall feel to the sound that a analogue console produces that is lovely in some cases that I feel is a bit lost with all-digital systems.

It's a lovely mixer! Had mine for a while now. Interested in that AR2412 seems like it would be a better way to plug into the mixer

Good day, requesting some advice please. I own a QU-32C, will the Allen & Heath AR2412 (digital snake) also work with my Desk ? Thank you in advance

Hi, It will indeed work with the QU32 or the QU16 as well. However in the case of the 32, you'd only have 24 of your 32 inputs, unless you also pick up the 8 in 4 out audio rack unit and connect that to the expander port. Hope this helps! --Nathan

Hey do you know if you can leave the mic or line inputs connected on the QU, and switch between the AR2412 inputs and the line inputs on the QU easily? I want to avoid patching cables constantly. Thanks

You absolutely can. The routing settings allow you to select Local (the console itself), dSnake (audio rack), or USB (QU-Drive or PC USB). Hope this helps!

Me again! So if you have all line inputs filled on the QU, and you have mics with 48V phantom on the 2412, can you setup a template to quickly switch between the two? I just want to make sure phantom doesn't get sent to all of my synths on line inputs in the process, but be able to record my drums on mics into the 2412. Essentially adding many more channels to my QU-24. Thanks! Ps. Also wanted to know if you can assign just the 2412 channels to the custom layer?

+Ben Ballard Nice! I'd recommend one so far. The biggest challenge I've found if you haven't used a digital desk before is remembering to select your channel before making changes to the gain, EQ, etc.. Since you only have one of each channel processing control its easy to sometimes change the setting of the wrong thing by accident. But you learn and remember all this after a while as I'm now getting the hang of.

Well even as the analogue addicted enthusiast I am, I can actually really recommend one of these mixers for a first time digital user. That is where I currently am with it, I have owned it for almost 6 months and done a lot of gigs big and small with it. You don't get the lovely analogue warmth to the sound from a digital desk - or the ability to push things into clipping sometimes for a specific sound. Digital clipping introduces lots of artifacts and very undesirable clicks, pops and noise. The top of the VU meters on digital means NO MORE, whereas on analogue it could really be pushed up and beyond the meters if so desired. I plan to make some videos on my transition process, thoughts, tips and how I have set things up on the desk soon. I just need to get some other projects finished and out of the way that I am working on. :)

Someone who could help me I have 24 allen & heat at times the faders get stuck I sent him to give his service and they told me that it is the plate that is wrong ..
