Looking at different mixes available including how we have the desk setup in church.
Description of differences between each type and processing options available.

Do the groups ultimately come out through your final mix or do they come out through an output to a seperate location similar to a matrix. ? Is it closer to a DCA or matrix ?

Hi, the groups I mention in this video are sent to separate outputs - vestry and loop are routed to physical outputs. You can also just use them for internal processing, which is what I've done in my livestream setup (shown in another video if you're interested). It's all down to how you route them, which is completely flexible in the desk and one of the things I really like about it. I guess in that respect they are closer to a matrix, except you can't route a matrix to another mix.

Hello, I'm new to both digital mixing and our new Allen and Heath SQ6 desk. I was able to connect two active monitors' in parallel to AUX 10. I was able to control my volume through the SQ desk; however, this is not something that i do often. So i forgot how i configured these monitors through the SQ desk to include controlling the volume. Can you help me figure out how i may have configured the monitors to work on AUX 10?

Hi, when you say connected to aux 10, I assume you mean connected to local output socket 10 on the desk? If you aren't sure where that is controlled from, go to the IO Patching area, then select Outputs and Mix Out. On there you should see which mix is patched to socket 10. It will be one of the Aux or Group mixes most likely. It's hard to explain in just these comments. If you need more guidance drop me an email - my address is in the channel info.

I want the compressor to be apply to the Main LR vocals, but I dont want to apply to the AUXs. how can I do that?
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam Жыл бұрын
You can change that in the routing for the aux, look at the channel source for the aux and choose Post EQ for example. It may already be set up that way by default.

Question! I have a SQ5 and I’m having an issue where I need all 10 local auxes and 2 groups but the issue I’m having is when I change it in setup and in the I/O I’m not seeing auxes 9 and 10. I can send whatever input to them when I hit mix 9 or 10 on the right side buttons but I’m not seeing those auxes on the scribble script or anywhere on the console itself. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks

Hi, not sure what you mean, exactly. Have you assigned 9 and 10 to the surface in Setup? If you go to Strip Assign then choose Mix you can assign any group or aux to any fader you want.

Hey sir, I have Aux 1 and Aux 4 as my right and left floor wedges. I’m wanting to use those as fillers for my main mix because we don’t use floor monitors. We are all in ears. So how would I be able to patch my wedges so they would be linked up with my mains? Or is that not possible
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's possible. Depending on where your wedges are, you can just use the I/O page to patch the Main LR through to the physical sockets they are connected to. If you planning to use them as Left and Right then patch one to Main L and the other to Main R - go to I/O->Outputs->Mix Out and find MainLR down the left, select the tab across the top (Local, SLink etc.) to the correct one depending where your wedges are plugged in, then patch the socket. I don't cover this in any of my videos, although I do use the I/O page in the multi-track recording sessions 24 & 25. You'll probably also want to EQ these better if they are being used in this way, I know that our floor wedges sound very different due to the EQ needing to avoid feedback!

Sir wht is the advantage n disadvantages of making subgroups
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam Жыл бұрын
It depends what you want to do. Groups allow you to apply extra processing to several channels together, which is the main reason I make use of them, for example to add some EQ or compression to all your vocals. It does make the routing more complicated though, so you do need to keep in mind who is going to be using them. I use groups a lot for our live streaming setup as it gives me the ability to do multiple levels of compression separately to the FOH.

Hey. Thanks for all your help. Our church just installed an SQ7 and we have no sound engineer. We live in a rural community in northern Canada. We are coming from an analog mixer. We have our stream mix setup on our aux 5. Is there anyway to change the FX and EQ for just the steam mix? Can I make these changes to the individual channels?
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Quinton, glad you find these useful. If you want to do EQ on an individual channel you would need to double patch the input sources, like I show in Session 10 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qr-dZtJmzJ_Ip2w.html. For FX you can route the FX return to aux 5 and it will go to the stream too. Our setup is to send channels through multiple groups, aux and a matrix for our live stream; we add FX and compression using those groups (EQ is the same as I've not found a need for it to be different). I show a walk through our streaming setup in the Live Stream Desk setup video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdmEm5x9mJPaimQ.html if you are interested.

@@stjamesstyvechalepateam thanks. I have a piano player that likes a wonky monitor mix. Is is possible to save her aux mix as a scene?
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam 2 жыл бұрын
@@quintonburton9205 not separately, you would have to include it in each scene it was needed. A scene contains all mixes, channel processing etc. You can copy and paste a mix though, between aux mixes in one scene and between scenes.

I have another EQ question. We have passive house speakers and passive wedges for monitors (4 auxes). I noticed that when we removed the analog mixer and connected the SQ7 the signal path went through some analog rack EQs we have that must have been installed years ago by some pros when they tuned the room. I connected the ones that was going to our house speakers but I didn’t connect the ones going to our floor wedges because we didn’t have the proper cords. (1/4” to xlr I think) Anyway my question is can we copy the eq on the rack and insert those values somewhere on the SQ7 to feed the wedge monitors? They sound a little bland. Thanks Troy
@stjamesstyvechalepateam
@stjamesstyvechalepateam 2 жыл бұрын
@@quintonburton9205 Yes, absolutely, there's both GEQ and PEQ on all Aux mixes. I've used this to 'tune' both our floor monitors and main FOH outputs. Just select the Aux channel itself on the desk to access them.

You mean the ones down the right of the desk? Those were made on a label maker by the installer so unfortunately not something I have to share.
