Thank you so much for this channel. The night before chem paper 1, and this is the FIRST time I've ever fully understood this and am able to label and get these type of questions right. I've never gotten this, my teacher just moved on so fast and assumed we all understood. Big thank you for going through the nitty gritty, and the whole concept. You've literally carried my alevels. Acids was another topic I absolutely sucked at.

not sure it was mentioned in the video but useful to note - enthalpy change of dissociation is the opposite of lattice enthalpy!

The Born-Haber cycle for MgO is wrong at 28:17. Thanks for the otherwise amazing video though! :)

Yeah I agree as well, the Born-haber cycle for MgO is wrong. Everything else is perfect though 😁 thank you.

36:53 if the calculations, the value of lattice enthalpy of dissociation is negative (given or calculated), do we reverse the signs or keep it as it is??? PS. Thanks for your video. They are really helpful

Would we need to be able to construct a Born-Haber cycle from scratch (provided they didn't give us one in the question) with the arrows pointing the correct direction (due to the exothermic or endothermic nature of the enthalpy change they represent) and the higher energy arrows positioned above the lower energy arrows? I've checked the specification and I can't seem to find anything

What do you mean by adding all the numbers to equal zero?
@user-zo7oq6ts5y
@user-zo7oq6ts5y 3 жыл бұрын
you start anywhere on the cycle and add all the values, keeping the sign the same if you're going with the arrow or changing the sign if going against the arrow. If all the values add up to 0, including the lattice enthalpy worked out, you most likely got the right answer :)

at 20:12 I'm a bit confused as to why the value is halved Because 1/2Cl2 turns into Cl which for both is just one Chlorine atom
@rubiksworld2170
@rubiksworld2170 5 ай бұрын
The table shows the enthalpy of atomisation of Cl2 not just Cl. So halving would give you the correct value!

hello, doesn't the increasing/decreasing number of protons also affect the lattice enthalpy(as well as ionic charge and ionic radius)?
@i.a590
@i.a590 2 ай бұрын
idk about the number of protons but if you do ocr a then all you need to explain is the affect of ionic charge and ionic radius xx

why do you atomise chlorine before lithium? does the order of which you do it matter?
@rubiksworld2170
@rubiksworld2170 5 ай бұрын
You’ve probably already done your exams lol, but for anyone else seeing this the order doesn’t matter - I asked my teacher!
