Today we're joined by Heather Mason, activist, survivor of fentanyl addiction, and founding member of caWsbar, an organization that works to preserve the rights and protections of women and girls. Heather tells her story of becoming addicted to fentanyl, selling drugs, and going to prison multiple times. She shares her difficult journey in Canadian federal prison, where she got routinely strip-searched and violated, and shares stories of men, many of whom were sexual predators, being placed with women and babies in women's facilities. We discuss her advocacy for single-sex prison spaces, and Heather explains how it was the Christians above anyone else who saw her as a human worthy of dignity while she was in prison.

Heather thank you for being so brave. I remember when you had a protest near Kitchener Waterloo about 2.5 years ago. My husband and I were shocked, and disgusted that women were being sexually assaulted by males identifying as female. Our government, and its’ desire to push forward such an ideology, no matter how ridiculous is a disgrace. Women and children should not have to live with sexual predators. Why should predators have safe haven while they continue to do the things that put them there in the first place. Heather I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but my husband and I are Christians. We used to volunteer in youth detention for males in Ontario. I can tell you it was truly the highlight of my week. Like how weird is that? It was absolutely true. When you do what God has designed you for there will be great joy. We’re retired now and my dream is to work with youth again. There was good in every one that I was able to meet in detention, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. There is an old Christian song that sings about Jesus...He look passed my fault and there He met my need. Be blessed dear one, both you and your beautiful children. ❤j

Society is so quick to stand up for the evil of the world and will turn a blind eye to our own women and children. I thought my daddy was totally crazy when he said there would be times such as these. But it does reassure me when I see the bravery of a few that refuse to stand by idly and let it happen.

Heather used a lot of neutral language, which is common among addicts to help with the guilt of their life choices. Her mention of "Karma" speaks volumes too about where she is spiritually. I pray she continues on her journey of recovery and trusts in Jesus more and more. Great interview, Allie!

I appreciate Heather’s honesty in telling her story. So often we don’t feel the punch of a story because people soften it up by being vague. Now I really get it and I’m appalled at what is happening to women stuck in these situations. It’s disgusting that men have figured out a way to get into women’s prisons and harass them.

In the women's prisons, the women are housed in cabins and the men live inside these cabins and share the same kitchen, etc. Women are also allowed in men's prisons. I have no idea what activities the trans women do there..... hm....

A remarkable woman fighting for this issue. Your story makes me appreciate growing up in a home with loving parents and no drugs or alcoholics.. To have overcome your lack of proper parenting is remarkable. Why aren’t men speaking up on this issue? Keep up the good fight! I’m so happy you’ve turned your life around. What a warrior for the cause of protecting women in prisons by not allowing men in women’s prison. This is lunacy!

From what I can see as a recovering addict, who has also been in prison - Heather could use a lot more humility. She still thinks she is a victim of her addiction, and that she didn’t hurt anyone except herself and her children - that is not true. Every single person she sold drugs to she victimized. Us drug addicts do not get a pass because we are addicted, giving them a pass is enabling. She cost the system hundreds of thousands of dollars maybe more in her lifetime - that comes out of the public. Her crimes are not victimless and until she realizes that she has not gained true humility or recovery.
@jenniferk4618
@jenniferk4618 10 ай бұрын
A perfect example is all her crying about all the strip searches - she admittedly used drugs while in prison - therefore, you get strip searched all the time. If she is using drugs in prison, then she is putting every other prisoner at risk for relapse and addiction - she still only cared about herself, and she deserved every strip search she got, as did I.
@jenniferk4618
@jenniferk4618 10 ай бұрын
She admits to using her vagina as a place to store drugs, and then wonders why they check her vagina - my God the victimization is just disgusting at times, those Christians didn’t do her any good by enabling her, and telling her poor baby you’re right, you’re such a victim - she’s not a victim, she was in jail for a good reason and you do your time, and then you grow. It seems she has grown in some areas, but very lacking in others still. I pray for her full recovery someday. Full recovery only comes when you take full responsibility for your actions and all those that you harmed - Heather is not there yet, she’s still playing the victim.

Great Job! Glory to God! Thankyou for your work!! Honestly with the way things are going even Christians some day could be locked up for being Christians or owning Bibles, praying, going to church. Soyou may say "Ihave nothing to do with this" or "those woman are criminals" or "im never going to prison". Never say never. WE DO NOT WANT MEN IN OUR WOMANS PRISONS. PERIOD. Also Jesus instructs us to care for the prisoners and share the Gospel with them as well. I appreciate this work so much!! 🩷 Thankyou for what you do and its very important work in and outside the jails 🩷 God Bless!! And Congratulations in your sobriety & new purpose filled life! Throughout this whole story it sounds like someone crying for help the whole time. It’s very hard to get addicts to become clean because they have to reach a place where they can overcome the guilt, shame, and desire to live life and take on responsibilities more than they want to do drugs. And there are so many who don’t want that. It really hurts me when people say hateful things about addicts. Heather really seems like she was crying for help from a very young age.

It is sad we have to even have these interviews nowadays....... If I were those women in prison I would boycott in anyway I could.......

Holy moley....have you see how difficult it is for addicts to get clean after years of use? And then to STAY clean?? She definitely has been through a lot more than most of us, and she's still on a path of healing, but she is able to help other people in similar situations far more than you are I. I don't like your logic either because it's like saying we shouldn't try to spread the gospel if we don't know the Bible perfectly. Or a leader shouldn't try to teach on a subject if they are not a master at it. 99.9% of the population are not total experts on what they teach. And that's okay. It's more about trying, learning as you go, and admiting when you don't know something.

Prison would be an absolute nightmarish place to be and I can’t image how horrific it would be to be in there. I do believe that they should atleast have a tiny room with a door on it for bathroom calls and period issues. With that being said though, while people are making these terrible choices in life (that put them in prison) they must be aware from the type of people they involve theirselves with what prison is like and why do they continue to break the law over and over again.

Allie says at one point that she can't understand why this isn't the top story in mainstream media. I think that if you've had early religious training, it's obvious that The Prisoner is supposed to be worthy of great Christian compassion and concern. So it's surprising to discover that the media won't take the plight of women prisoners seriously.

This girl sounds like she blames everyone else for her drug addiction. No one makes you do drugs. That's a choice. I sympathize that she had a terrible childhood but so do thousands & they don't all turn to drugs. I abused drugs & alcohol. Ended up in jail 3 times. I only had myself to blame. By the grace of God I cried out to Him at 42 years of age & He changed my life. I still had to pay the consequences but life got much better. I'm now 62 & have never returned to that life. Praise God!

You need to listen again. This is about active male-hormone men (not changed trans to fully "women" hormones) in women's prisons attacking and impregnating the women and the authorities are ignoring the women. Heather gave her background to let people know she was "in that way of life" and knows how the system works/does not work first hand.

@@susanbender6029 I know what it was about. That doesn't change what I said. At the very beginning she said she blames the government for her addiction. I know what is happening in the prisons with the "transgender woman". It is horrific. But I'm sure there's is addicts watching & listening that don't need to feel enabled by blaming others for their addiction. We have way too much of that in this country.
