I discovered this area on Google maps one day back in January when I was looking for new ESD routes around Paradise Hills and Bay Terraces. Thought it was pretty cool, a big chuck of route full of condos and detached homes made it perfect for a jackpot of carts and lengthy video of an Amrep lid flipping all those carts.
So one day I set out to find the truck that collected that route and actually walked away not finding anything, the carts weren't collected yet and there wasn't a truck in the area. However there was a handful of Allied Waste carts and I did find truck 2231 collecting trash in one of the complexes, but I didn't stop to film it because I thought it wasn't worth my time due to the lack of Allied carts in the area. I thought the truck serviced only the Allied carts and had thought that the city allowed residents in this area to look for private haulers as alternative option. Boy was I wrong.
Last week when I was returning from Santee heading towards work I decided to make a small detour to see if I can find the truck this time. And to my surprise again the carts lids weren't flipped (not to say they weren't empty) I also thought it was very odd that the recycles were out that week when just up the street it wasn't recycle week. I drove around the area and I didn't find the truck once more so I decided to leave, but when I was leaving this truck, 2234 pulls up to one of the allied carts and begins collecting. I had about 30 minutes to kill and it only takes 10 minutes to get to my work from where I was so I decided to park and film this truck.
I found out after watching him dump the first two carts that this in fact is an EX-ESD route.
When the city lost a lot of HOA contracts and other compact living areas private haulers stepped in and took over those lost routes. To my amazement, Allied didn't even bother to change the ESD carts to their carts. And also to add to that they didn't even bother to slap a sticker on the carts as well, so they had been playing me the whole time.
Driver didn't mind me filming although I heard a lot of incoming radios from his Nextel so I figured he was talking to the supervisor or his co-worker who was parked down the street taking a break, but surprisingly he didn't tell me to scram.
Thought this was REALLY cool, seeing and old style Autocar WXLL once again, not to mention he was collecting ESD carts as well, thought that was cool. This truck is one out of the two (the other is 2235, this trucks twin) in my yard that have the top of the hopper shaved off to make room to shove the curotto can in, back then this truck had a slammin eagle now it has a curotto can 2 so why they changed that is beyond my knowledge.
Unfortunately the driver doesn't give this truck any gas and doesn't rev it the slightest bit, when he raises the curotto can, this truck used to have a nice roar, now (or at least he didn't give it enough gas) it sounded as quiet as a CNG truck. But ohh well I guess, I love this truck anyways.
I will probably return in the future to get the trash driver collecting all those ESD ottos and to get more footage of these trucks collecting in general. Sorry the video isn't too long I had to get to work.
