I’m from Asheville, most people do t know the Biltmore House was the House they used in the 80s comedy movie like clue called “Private Eyes” Don Knots and Tim Conway are in it. Really neat movie
@zerbloo9872 жыл бұрын
Asheville is great for tourists, but getting worse and worse for people living here BECAUSE of tourists. Prices for rent are some of the highest in the country, and house prices are sky high too. Most of the jobs here pay absolute shit wages and demand far more of workers than they should. I personally know multiple friends that have had to move out of asheville because working 2-3 jobs in asheville wasn't enough to afford an apartment or house in asheville. There's some sort of irony where the city actively pushes out its tourism workforce in favor of more tourism. At some point the city will crash and burn due to it only being inhabited by the rich retirees that don't need to work, and the tourists that come to tour stores with no workers.
@robblackwell27742 жыл бұрын
I had the same thoughts. Asheville is a shiny penny but there’s an underbelly and a huge class struggle. The highways are overused way past their capacity and the land is being over developed. There was a group who overdosed on fentanyl at the Grove Park Inn recently. It’s an amazing city but the messaging that goes out nationally just encourages more and more people to move here which is unsustainable.
@zerbloo9872 жыл бұрын
@@robblackwell2774 can't forget about the now weekly car jackings either. It's like our city government wants to get as much money from tourists as possible (which is the reason they help fund trips for influencers like this), and instead of putting that money into the people that are the lifeblood of the city they just put it into hotel development and constructing new attractions over historical and sentimental locations. I cant blame tourists completely though, they're just cogs in a machine being turned by greedy and/or incompetent city officials.

Born and raised Asheville natives are being priced out because of the growing population of transplants that bring wealth with them. This "ideal" image of Asheville isn't authentic what-so-ever. You think the locals are out here taking trips to the spa and having fine dining experiences? All the locals are working two full-time jobs while living in a tiny, overpriced apartment. Asheville is no longer a family-friendly southern Appalachian town anymore. It's a town that caters to everything but its "hillbilly" natives. Plus, the "southern food" scene no longer represents authentic southern food, as it's being ran by hipsters that want to add weird ingredients to shit that shouldn't be messed with in the first place. Please, stop hyping up our hometown. We want the mountains free of people, and free of pollution.

There's a music scene, a wellness scene (as you see here), an art scene, the Blueridge Parkway for those hikes in the Pisgah National Forest and the variety of so many foods and drinks are to die for. For my travel bucket list 2022 I have been there so many times before but Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Nice video but here are a few things for people to know who are unaware. I'm a local who has lived in Asheville my entire life and here are three very important things you need to know before coming here that wasn't shown in the video: 1. In the recent years we have gotten homeless tent cities pop up all around town 2. River Arts District is covered in heroin needles. The graffiti is really ugly there. A lot of what looks like "cool hip businesses" is actually dirty hippies and homeless people shooting up needles in those areas. 3. The city has turned into a very dystopic nightmare version of what it looked like just 10 years ago. I used to enjoy going downtown, as it was a very chill place. Nowadays, particularly ever since the 2020 riots when people burned some buildings down and a lot of the good police quit their jobs, I hear about multiple gunshot casualties per night, which is really not the same city I remember.
@graalcloud2 жыл бұрын
I would also mention that the Botanical Gardens has had so many people get raped there that they had to put up rape phones every so many feet on the trail. This video actually reminds me of those videos of people visiting North Korea where they are guided along and only shown the best possible view of the place while ignoring all the bad things. And there are MANY bad things about Asheville, the awesome views from Mt Pisgah not being one of them.

@cindyp51322 жыл бұрын
@@jesse3489 I read your main comment on this video to see where your hostility is coming from and I'm sorry to tell you, you're not alone. But it's not just Asheville, or western NC. It's a serious issue happening all over the US!! The real problem is people (especially under 40 yrs old) simply are NOT being PAID enough to keep up with inflation and the cost of living and therefore cannot thrive the same as generations in the past. You realize many who move are people who've been priced out of their area as well, it's a chain reaction. I hear you & agree, I just think it's a much bigger picture & problem... But I do know after several years that while the people of the mountains absolutely love their privacy & space, they also are some of the kindest, most well mannered people you'll ever meet & will do anything for a neighbor. I just don't want your frustration to taint anyone's impression overall. Only we have the ability to change what's happening and it's not by trying to stop people from moving, it's in our vote (one way or another). I wish you well & hope things get better soon for you and all of us. 🤍

As anywhere and anytime, life is good with plenty of money. I know it was not the point of her video, but there are many activities in and around Asheville that cost little or nothing. Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway is free, as are the many hiking trails. I can't afford a room at the Grove Park Inn but I can buy a drink and sit by the fire in the most beautiful hotel lobby and watch the sunset. You don't need a guide to walk the Botanical Garden. Biltmore House and Gardens has a very expensive entrance fee and there is no way around that. It is worth it to some and not to others. A friend once said, " It is just a very big old house." To each his own. I'd rather take a picnic lunch to Mt. Mitchell or Mt. Pisgah.

I'm from Asheville, you went to all of my favorite spots. Sometimes they do sound healing in the salt cave 🙌🏽 If you come back you should go to Shoji spa!!!
