A lot of people think that Michelle from the resistance's line, "Listen very carefully I shall say zis only once." was the joke. But the real joke was that she always had to repeat herself. She never said it only once!
@BritishCommentWriter
@BritishCommentWriter 6 жыл бұрын
No, the real joke is that she keeps repeating "Listen very carefully I shall say zis only once" every single time, because 1). At this point, that's the expectation rather than the norm, so why keep saying it? 2). Because the whole point of saying it is to save time, redundantly continuing to do so is defeating the object.

This show was so brillant that even some of the family names of the fictional characters bore a connection to their features or roles: "Artois" is the beer's name, "Geering" seems similar to "gering" in German, which is of "minor importance", "Gruber" sounds as "Groover" , which is in line with the lieutenant's leanings lol

I'm actually really glad I'm not the only one that thought Crabtree and Michelle would have made a good couple. They always seemed to have some kind of chemistry and it kinda makes me wonder why they never actually went with the idea. I mean... romance was quite literally everywhere. Everyone has a romantic interest at one point. Why not put them together?

There is one episode where it's implied they're sleeping together (Michelle appears at Crabtree's bedroom window in a nightgown).

I always wanted Arthur Bostrom to be in a play/drama where he wakes up, looks out the window sees it's raining and then does a 1 minute 'tirade' at the British weather. His wife wakes up and says "Good moaning"! Unfortunately people under the age of 30 won't get the joke.

When in Germany I always call the wife "Helga" My fave line was always "You stupid woman" when Renee was caught with another woman.

I agree, a german joke is no laughing matter!!, take the recent example, when a herd of nazi cows was discovered, somebody noticed the bull was goring😀

I think one factor that made this persistently funny was that it had a lot of different types of jokes - lots of double-entendre, lots of reaction comedy, and sometimes the reaction was the main part of the joke, lots of put-downs, lots of reframes (you stupid woman), visual gags, character comedy, awkwardness, and other types. So it tickled lots of different funny bones. Amazing how they managed to pull that off when it was about one of the most infamously evil regimes conquering a country that was and is still in living memory, yet they still managed to make the German officers sympathetic characters. An astounding feet of balance.
