I miss these old truck commercials. The new one's suck... Doesn't even show a video of what it can do. These old ones were pretty cool. The ones now a days make trucks seem to luxurious.
@HALO32868 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can't haha, and apparently a truck needs a huge touch screen too. The thing with new trucks is that if one thing goes wrong, other things will not work. Just because they have so much tech into them.. I'm just fine never having a new truck, I'll just rebuild mine get used ones and fix those up. haha I personally wouldn't get anything over 07. That's when all the tech started to take over. Plus the late 90's to 2000's trucks have better looks, and are much easier to work on, and parts are plentiful.
@03legacygt7 жыл бұрын
I agree completely with trucks being advertised as luxurious these days. Companies are selling them as passenger vehicles and not as work trucks like they used to. Sad really.

back when the avg joe could afford to buy a new truck. now even base models with nothing in them run you 30+ grand and we arent even talking about the upper trim level prices, those are hitting highend luxury car prices now with their 60+ grand price tags. And for what, you get a bunch of electronic bullshit that will go wrong and cost you an arm and a leg to fix after 3 or 4 years of owning one in this day and age? no thank you..
@HaefentheZebra7 жыл бұрын
Don't forget the new Shelby F150 that prices somewhere between $100,000 to $120,000.
@larry80657 жыл бұрын
Actually, the base model Dodge Ram 1500 sold for around $14,500 about 24 years ago. That's nearly $24,500 in today's (2017) cash. Compare that today's trucks, which start $2,000 more, but keep in mind that today's trucks pass modern safety and emissions standards, are more powerful, tow more, haul more, come with much more standard features. When you think about, you're actually getting much MORE today than you did then. Also, keep in mind that $26,500 might seem like a lot, but that is suggested pricing. Many buyers pay way less than that once all the incentives are added up, especially if they're buying fleets of them. With incentives and dealer discounts, you can easily buy a base model Ford or Ram for under $20,000. As for "electronic bullshit that will go wrong and cost you an arm and a leg to fix after 3 or 4 years", our company has several trucks that are 4 years old or newer, and they absolutely do not cost an arm an leg to fix and are very reliable. In fact, they're proving to be more reliable than the trucks made 20 years ago. And honestly, it not like 90s American vehicles were all that well made. If anything, most vehicles were terribly made back then.

I own a 1997 Ram 1500 Club Cab LWB 2wd 5.2L. By far the best truck you could ever own. My only 2 complaints are the infamous steering wander and cracked dashboard. As a temporary fix I installed a plastic dash cover. Not pretty, but effective. Next year I will be installing a new dashboard and steering gear box which will alleviate my wandering issues. I purchased my Emerald Green Machine in 2008 as a 2nd owner with only 80,000 miles on her for only $3000. Now, with nearly 190,000 miles and the only mechanical issues have been replacing the intake manifold gasket and catalytic converter. Say what you want about the 2nd Generation Rams but, I'd say she has more than paid for herself.

Man this made me almost tear up, I have a 95 5.2 v8 regular cab dodge ram with 224k miles and still starts right up and drives and sounds good, no check engine light...I previously had a v6 2001 ram I stupidly traded for an old junky beat up firebird car, I guess you live and learn though. Anyway, these dodge rams are my favorite vehicle ever, never left me stranded or had any major problems, very reliable. I know alot of people knock the trans in these but I've seen just as many GM vehicles with fried trans and engines, I still see alot of 2nd gen dodge trucks on the road and even a 1st gen every once in awhile...I don't put very many miles per year on a vehicle so this thing could last me a lifetime honestly, if/when the trans go out I'll have saved up enough money to get a new one/rebuild....the magnum engines are known to last a very long time too. The chevy trucks of this era got more mpg even with their 350 5.7's which is the only con besides the auto trans in these I'd say, but for being so reliable I'll accept a tiny bit less mpg

IM just saying, my dad is a ford guy, he owned a 1999 Ford 150, it was a good dependable truck, but i always loved my uncles 3/4 ton 1998 Ram 2500, so when i turned sixteen i bought a 1995 Ram $1500 single cab long bed for 1500, i loved that truck, i sold it to my brother in law, and I bought a 1998 extended cab, i loved that truck too, ended getting T-boned in it :(, so last year i bought a 2001 Chevy silverado crew cab...... i tried getting this truck to my taste, never liked it, so I sold it off because i got a better job, so I can say i am 20 years old and have gone back to dodge/Ram, i bought a 2012 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7L hemi with 3.92 gears in the rear end, and i Fucking love this truck!
@robertbaratheon92899 жыл бұрын
Can't say I would even consider buying a Chevy. I would think about buying a Ford, but a Dodge? No question. I would buy a Dodge any day. Best trucks for big guys and those who want a truck for just a vehicle or doing work. My father owned 4 Dodges and my grandfather owned several Dodge cars as well. Their V8s are powerful and very fast. Even Chrysler V6s are great. Legendary for reliability and power. They get good gas mileage too. Chevy and Ford could only come close with a 6 cylinder. My father said he averaged at least 19 or mpg with every Dodge he ever owned. The new Hemi can get about 23 maybe even 25 in good conditions.
@adavidson1161169 жыл бұрын
well unless you stop and go alot lol, but like my ram is a crew cab 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi, my buddy has a 2011 Ford f-150 with the 5.0L, my ram can average more gas mileage then his ford, and we drive just about the same distance, and we both do drive equally, we both kinda got lead in our feet lol

And this is why trucks nowadays are just glorified grocery getting SUVs with a cargo bed. I place all of the blame on this Dodge Ram. But, Dodge had it right - all the fancy shit Ford and Chevy didn't have at the time, but still all business. Even as a regular cab, this Ram had plenty of features, no need for a huge cab with two extra doors to take away cargo space from the bed. I just don't see trucks in the form of a regular cab anymore, even more so with a long box.
@Mindphaser987 жыл бұрын
As far as the argument for which of these old trucks last the longest? They all kick ass just the same when it comes to longevity. In general, I believe the only weak spot in a truck is an automatic transmission. But, in general, I believe any of these old Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks could last a million miles, if properly taken care of. Can the new trucks last as long? We'll have to wait and see. I'd guess that they could, but just about every bell and whistle will be broken if not met with a slush box failure first.
@spacemanrick20146 жыл бұрын
Masayoshi, around where I am, So Cal, to get the barebones single cab with 8' bed, you have to go to a dealer that specializes in fleet commercial sales. They still make them, and sell them, no one pays attention to them. Even the electric company out here has a massive fleet of F-series, from F-150 to the F-650, all in XLT trim, not even base XL. All the regular Dealers sell the fancy toy pickup trucks.

+willy conard Damn haha. I had to rebuild my rear end from doing burnouts and hitting a dry spot sliding on ice. Also had to replace the clutch and some motor components lol.
