We put the Allures 51.9 to the test. This go-anywhere blue water, aluminium adventure sailboat has answered many questions on what it takes to be an actual blue water sailboat.

Of all the boat review channels on KZfaq, yours ranks in the top five! I like how you look through just about every cabinet, floorboard, and hatch, because that gives us a real idea of how the systems are laid out and whether or not the manufacturer has done a good job of engineering the layout of the vessel. It almost feels like I'm being given a tour of my new Allures 51.9!

Thank you for your lovely comment, it is great to get feedback from you guys watching and hopefully the videos will get better as time goes on. If you are buying one we will definitely offer to crew if you are in need. The Allures 51.9 is definitely one of the best sailboats I have been on and sailed in a long time.

It's hard, isn't it? But having spent some time on them both, the Allures would be the sailboat for us. It is smaller, yes, but as a cruising couple, its power and size are enough for what we want. The Garcia 60 is a powerhouse of world cruising blue water machine that is well outside of our means and ability for the moment;)

@@SVTONICBoatWives I've been having a few problems with USB Charger leads for the phones and Tablets failing, so may have missed a few videos. Plus have taken another look at what Outboard to get for the Tender I have Four 2 stroke ones on a rack, but don't think you can use them in Florida, So Tender plus Outboard needed for the boat. I think k the 6hp Tohatsu/Mercury make it easily as Most Economical, as even at full throttle, a 25 litre external fuel tank should give up to 250 miles range. I was hoping to get a Seago Hypalon air deck and keel Tender plus the Brlilliant Seago Liferaft and other safety gear as well, but I don't think they sell in the USA, which really sucks, as Liferafts are horrifically expensive in the USA, as are Hypalon Dinghies. So I'll have to get in touch with Seago, and see if they will Ship to Florida once I know I can order the boat. If the Silver price keeps being deliberately suppressed, it ay be a couple of years before that happens, as it looks like Finaccial Sanity can only return when the Vederal Reserve Note Fake Dollar dies - then, how do I pay a USA Boatbuilder. lol. It's Never Easy is it. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob in Wales. 🤣👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

@@SVTONICBoatWives PS Sounds like the Same Lazy Autopilot Chipsets in B&G and Raymarine that takes a break from being on watch whenever it feels like it. Not acceptable. I'd like to find out more about the Simrad, and maybe the Garmin Autopilots as well, as I haven't heard of issues with either of them, as I really don't fancy Wind vane steering, as they seem to be dogged with rapid wear of plastic gear issues, plus reactions for steering aren't really rapid enough in wind and wave conditions where fast reaction is needed. I think I have finally sorted out being able to log into the Cruising Forum again, and will see if I can get a discussion going on Autopilots, plus have a chat with the Raymarine Devs again, as they are working on some features for me already, and the rest of the instruments, Network, etc, is going to be Raymarine, as I should be able to build in a a Rapid Emergency System Restore, if my Boat Network, Chart Plotter etc, ever gets Hacked Again, like happened to me with my last Boat, and caused its loss. I'm after a hardware reset, full System Reformat, and a get out of Dodge quick restore of Local chart etc, and once somewhere safe, a Second full system Flush and reformat, followed by a Complete system Restore, which could take a few hours. Secure Disk images for both can be kept safe in a Faraday Cage, with a belt and bracers Tablet with Navionics in it ready to fire up as well. A couple of submachine guns to scare off the Criminals would probably help as well - only slightly kidding. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️ eta. for perspective that Wrecking Gang in New York Harbour, have Murdered a LOT of People, and it is quite clear that I was the First one to Survive one of their attacks, so things like Submachine Guns are how they get properly Dealt with, preferably by the Police, but what do you do when the State Police are Hand in Glove with the Wrecking Gang? That's why the Local Police gave me an Armed Bodyguard once they found out what was going on, and after I had asically been threatened in Hospital by a State Police Trooper. The Local Police, no bones about it, were bloody fantastic, and I hope to visit them again under better circumstances. 👍

@@SVTONICBoatWives A Tip that can save a lot of Money, and some real surprises. Optics like Binoculars, Telescopes and Monocalars are important, and can get very heavy use on a Boat. So how to tell if your possible Purchase has Rubbish Cheap Lenses in it, which only have the entire areas thoroughly polished and coated ? Simple, hold the item up and look through the Objective Lens to the eyepiece lens directed at a white Surface (Never the Sun ! ) and if you see a clear base to base Pyramid bright shape in the middle, you know the lenses haven't been fully Polished. Brands costing literally thousands of pounds can and do have rubbish lenses in them. How do you determine the size ofvthe lights treat hittingbthe Pupil of your eyes as the largest beam width for good eyes is 7mm? Divide the size of the Objective lens by the Magnification, so which size is best for Marine use Binoculars at night ? 7 magnification with 50mm Objective lenses, and good coatings, is as bright a pair of Binoculars as you can Get. My £29 Russian 7x 50's due to superb Polishing and Coatings, could pick out an Oil Tanker in a Sea Haze, that was invisible rhrough my friend's German 7 x 50's that cost almost £2,000 and had lenses only polished in the centres. He was Not a Happy Bunny. I got him to buy a Good pair on sale in a local Chemists for £30 and with the a erage price now under a thousand, he felt a lot better (I had told him how to check them, before going shopping for a pair too, but he forgot. sigh). Hi, your reviews are always interesting. one question on this one, though; Is all of the steering gear aft of the watertight bulkhead that is visible in the lazarette? cheers
@SVTONICBoatWives
@SVTONICBoatWives Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. That is a good question about the steering system. Because of the way the deck and hull are put together, there is a space dedicated to the steering and a few other services. Normally when looking down into that aft locker, the holes port and starboard have sealed hatches on them, and as the boat was being tested that week they were not present, so the engineers had quick access to all services there. We are going back to Allures and Garcia later this year to have a look around the factory etc., so I will make a point of filming and photographing all relevant points for you and any other questions you may have, and the same for our other subscribers. I hope this helps, and please don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you want.

@@SVTONICBoatWives thanks for the reply. when you get back to A/G it would also be interesting to know if there are redundant autopilots; and what additional redundancies are built in to the vessel electrical and mechanical systems. be interesting to know if the bilge areas are painted/epoxied/sealed below the waterline. also, are the through hull fittings attached to the hull directly or are they installed on aluminum extensions to a point above the waterline. cheers

Hi Guys. Bob in Wales, just got a message from Raymarine regarding Raymarine Autopilot Drop Out (it does appear to be a Topic on a number of Sailing Forums) saying they are getting a Team on it. Didn't dispute that it is a problem with B&G Utopilots, but did say the Simrad Are B&G, so Allures hoping to avoid issues by going Simrad Instead, to me anyway doesn't appear to Cure the issue. So for the time being, that leaves us with Furuno and Garmin options ? Hopefully Raymarine get this sorted Fast. B&G on the other hand, have now known there is an issue with their Autopilots for a Very Long Time, but still No Fix. Which is Not Acceptable. Apparently Furuno non Commercial Fishing ones are about the same Construction quality as Raymarine, B&G, and Simrad. Question therefore, are Garmin Autopilots still up to the necessary Standards? Autopilots built over 5 years ago by all the Companies still have users Swearing by them rather than at them, from the Forum threads I've been Reading. All the Best. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

If you are interested Amel use Furuno as a lot of commercial boats do, and Garmin have a long history of being reliable but not up to date. I think Raymarine will sort out there bugs, we had to just reboot the system to get everything working properly again and I will say that I prefer the Raymarine touch screen and all round use ability, but that’s just my choice. It’s like mobile phones or home computers everyone has their own personal brands that they prefer.

@@SVTONICBoatWives Big issue with Furuno is for non commercial Sailing, is the over emphasis on Trawling pattern routes apparently. After a pretty long period with Raymarine, I continue to like their gear, plus the speed of responses from Customer Support. As I am now on Record with them for alerting them to concerns with Autopilots (plus some other important Software changes for Boat Security improvements after the Wrecking Gang Lost me my last Sailboat ) I like the Customer interaction Relationship, and value retaining it. So just prior speccing up what I need for the Island Packet, I'll have a Chat with Raymarine to get their recommendation for a full installation System to include, which I can pass on to Island Packet. Issues lie in Hardware, Firmware, BIOS, Operating System, or Software, all of which need Debugging, But they do have long Established Known good Components, which should help speed everything Up. I think by the time I put my Order in, the issue should be resolved. If it is a Vulnerabity they have been forced to include, as has happened to Computers, Smart Phones, etc, with Backdoors in literally everything IT related, then I'll use a Steering brake to lock the rudder on a crossing, relying on the long keel to keep reasonable lying on track for long periods, a d make minor course adjustments with the Backup steering called the Bow Thruster. I am not a fan of Wind Vane Steering tbh. Once the destination is in Sight, switching to engine power and Hand steering to an Anchorage shouldn't be a time consuming concern. Well, it hasn't been a problem yet, though there is a first time for everything I suppose, but if all is sorted pre installation, no worries anyway. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

@@SVTONICBoatWives Oh PS. The length of Day Navigation Tables are apparently in some Annual Sailing Almanacs Though actually having them Published in a seperate book, I've not looked for or Noticed them. An Almanac isn't that handy in Comparison. But at least I should be able to get my hands on them again. Not as precise as a good sextant and a good Astro fix, but with a good Quartz Watch(battery issues with most, so I favour the Citizen Eco drive with no issues for about 15 years, then just buy another one - the Military Versions on Sale, can be great Value, though I spent a bit more to get a Full Chronograph, more complicated, and no more accurate, I won't make that mistake again) length of Day Tables really aren't enough worse, and are close enough to get you where you need to be just Offshore. Then a Monocular with a Bearing Compass in it - very cheap for high quality Chinese Optics ones- can rapidly give you a Solid Position Fix. Surprisingly, my Waterproof Chinese Monocular, was the first thing that washed up ashore from my boat after it went down, the only other undamaged item, was my Waterproof Nikon Compact Camera (I think I'll get the Seals renewed in that, and some new Batteries, and have it as a spare for a new one. All the other stuff got claimed for Davey Jones Locker ho hum). Bob, rabbiting on again. 👍🤣🍻

PPS. Those Bearing Monoculars are really bloody handy to have in the Cockpit, to use for Collision Avoidance by the way, with a pretty rapid check on whether a collision is incoming. They easily fit in a Pcket too. I got mine for about 60 dollars off Amazon in the USA. Bob. 👍
