:/ I love how my time line matches up w/ my tastes 🤦... I'd say I should feel cringey, idky. Bc I was just young and stupid... But this came out before I even graduated... 36 now and I wish I could just be young again. Bc then ppl would be like," 🤔 oh, just give her some passes. She's just young..." :/ 😅🤣😂. I click on one thing, search one thing, keep clicking, & sh just stays more in my feed. So now I got this movie stuck in my head & all it's random attachments... I def. related to the writer more... Penny's lucky she made it out alive... Does that sound cheesey cliche over the top? I was/ am kind of about that life... Huh? But I do remember lessons of random elders & peers... Bc even like penny tho, ...I'm the wanderer too... "Family doesn't hafta mean blood." Ok...

I just love how the band members were so mad with each other just a few minutes before this scene and then, all they need is music, the simple and beautiful music that reunites them and remembers them why they are here and what their dreams are. This movie means so much to me.

I think this is a great scene and very entertaining, but it just shows how superficial all of this actually is. A tour bus is not “home” for any of them, and singing a song together doesn’t actually resolve any of their underlying issues.

@@matthewbryan-taff1306I half agree with you and OP. To me this scene has always been about the power a good song can have on people. Like you said, this didn't actually resolve any of their actual problems with each other and they will continue being at each other's throats throughout the rest of the movie. For a few minutes though that suddenly doesn't matter and they all silently agree to put that stuff on pause to listen to a kick ass song.

Stuck eternally in the 1970s! Watching this movie is like watching my life as a teenager. Great music, great times. I was deeply in love, and 15. I married him one year later and we are almost 48 yrs of marriage and still deeply in love. Funny how the Spirit inside of us never ages, then we catch a glimpse in the mirror and stop cold in your tracks. What the hell happened? Who is this old woman?? Where did the time go?? In my mind and heart, we still look that good, but the outside means nothing next to sharing every minute of your life with your soul mate!! Thank you Jesus and Thank you, John.

As I grow older, I take Penny's 'you are home' in an even more meaningful way. To William, he's still that young teen wanting to get back home to his familiarity, and Penny says 'you are home' to reassure him that he is in his place of comfort - music, so he will always be 'home'. But I feel it's so relevant to life in general. We're always trying to return 'home', to a place of comfort and stability and reassurance, like scared little kids. But we are always 'home', with our feet on the ground, air in our lungs and the strength to power through. Ok, perhaps with no promise of another day on this earth, but we always have the moment, and if we keep living in that moment, we will grow and learn and never have to feel we aren't home.

This is such an underrated scene... everything about it is perfect. The way they join in all together even though their mad, the way Kate Hudson starts to song kills me because of how powerful and confident she is, the way Russell sits their pissed and disappointed and finally gives in to the music. And this part especially kills me because Russell does LOVE the music more than life. Its everything to hims. It’s so perfect because this it what it means to be a band. The drugs, sex, tours & road trips, groupies, and journalists.. it’s the definition of rock band. And the song is just so wonderfully written by Elton john that you can’t not want to be apart of that kind of life after watching this. This song makes me dream of a life like this. And what makes it even more perfect is that it’s based in the 70s it’s like living in the “Golden music era”... well done to the screenplay who wrote this scene it was genius!

On the way home the song ‘I hope you dance’ by Leanna Womack came on and the entire bus started singing, even macho football players and it felt like this exact moment. I knew I would remember that moment and feeing always and still do 20 years later.

It was nominated for best picture for the Golden Globes I think. It should have gotten the Oscar and Kate should have gotten the best supporting actress Oscar (she was nominated and she did get the Golden Globe). BUT here's the deal: Her mother (Goldie Hawn) got a best supporting actress Oscar for the VERY FIRST movie she did, so maybe they thought it would look like favoritism if they gave Kate the Oscar for the very first movie she did!!

This song picks up a seres of scenes where things are going bad for most of the characters and they start to feel disconected from each other. Then they're all taken togheter in a bus ride because of literal or virtual/social contracts and are slowly brought togheter by the one thing that put all of them in that position in the first place: their love for the music. That moment where nothing else matters but Tiny Dancer is the metapgorical "home", not only for William, but for all of them and us, the audience, at that point. It's beautiful and pretty damn smart if you ask me.
