The new tower shield from the event is a really good option if you already have fortifying shield rush on your other equipment, and if you are running The Butcher because you will probably be pulling a gem slot on it instead of another perk

Out of curiosity what do you think of the hatchet artifact for tanking? I wasn't sure if it might be good since you could potentially get your taunt back up quickly with it's perks?

Just my two cents. SnS / flail is not a "bad" tank option, but I personally do not like the obnoxious repositioning that is built into flail skills. That said... ...GS / flail is insane for certain niche tanking situations, as you can boost your armor up from 2800 to 6800 for a couple seconds with this combo of weps. With void darkplate you will see even more. Bad sustain though so not a first pick. SnS / hammer is CC king and is obviously a top if not the top pick for tanks, for good reason. It gnerates a ton of "native" aggro even without taunts, as a side bonus. My personal tank build, SnS / GS. You are the taunt master with no less than 3 AoE taunts and two single target taunts. If something goes horribly wrong for any reason, you have both defenders resolve AND calamity counter available, essentially giving you an extra two stamina bars on demand. Hatchet I feel shouldn't be included in any serious tanking conversation as it relies entirely on a gimmick that may or may not actually work when needed. A very well known buggy weapon and skill. Flail I dont think should be in a serious tanking discussion either. HOWEVER. There is a TON of room for flail builds in a group setting. In my company, we literally have a dedicated buffer / debuffer that runs VG & flail. They are time slotted for the day pretty much as soon as they log in. Nobody wants to do anything without them because VG / flail just trivializes all group content. Impairment + weaken + leech + empower + resource generation + disintegrate + nullifying oblivion. 350 con 50 focus 0 int 100 / 150 str Dump leftovers in dex

Thanks a ton for your guides! Been super helpful over a few games! In the gear guide, you list the woodgrain set as a potentially easy farm. I went to malevolence and got to the top of the tower, the dryad somthing being the big boss. None of the enemies dropped gear. Only one bear dropped a potion. I've gone a couple times. Is this a glitch, or are drops not gonna happen from every enemy? Any response is appreciated! All the best!

It should be dropping from named enemies such as Baines, Malevolence, Abiogenesis even weaker named enemies such as Cael & Tadeas so try some of the other named enemies in Edengrove if the ones in the tower aren't giving you any luck

They moved the big named enemies from top of malevolence to a new tower south of the tp shrine that you used to use to get to malevolence.

Been a tank since day 1 and still a Tank today with 698 GS. Sword and Sheild and War Hammer are the best. Best AOE aggro is from the hammer. Litteraly toss mobs around like a chopped salad.

Ankh seems really good, Lost Stopwatch not so much since it doesn't "taunt" with all skills and doesn't seem good enough to replace slotting Carnelian gems

So at what level can you start tanking? I’m only 22 and I can’t find a weapon with a gem slot. Seems strange to lock tanking behind gems and not abilities.

I think amrine dungeon starts from 25-30. Maybe get a cheap sword from the tradepost with a gem slot. There might be a sword with carnelian in the new msq or sidequests also.

Using gems allows those abilities to be applied in scenarios where you aren't looking to tank/taunt but want to use the weapons/shield/etc in a different capacity. It doesn't relegate whole sections of the skilltree to just tanking. If you're following MSQ and using the weapons you want to use for tanking, so that they're leveling up as well, you will receive gear biased toward that and eventually your level will be high enough to receive drops with gem slots.

You can pick up low level gear from the Alliance vendor such as the Covenant Initiate Longsword, a level 20 Sword with a gem slot, it costs 400 tokens and 20 gold

I suggest pushing main story quest, before bothering to do any dungeons. just push to 65.

Not sure if your faction vendor is really good for a new player/beginner to obtain. The price of each piece is expensive and I doubt a fresh player is going to make the gold to buy them all for a quick gear up. its over 20k for a full set. Unless you get really lucky with a drop you could sell, I guess go for it.

Came back to the game and running through main quests and side quests as needed to get to 65 amounted to just shy of 30k gold… u def can make enough to purchase a full tank set. Now if u r new and start spending money on gear you know nothing about well… idk what to say lol but yea does kinda suck to have to know what and how to spend your money when u are new

@@dquack7567 Yeah I made another character before the expac did all of MSQ and a good chunk of side quests. Never got near to 30k gold and even if I did, I wouldnt spend it on an armor set that is over priced for new players. Id rather buy matrixes to upgrade gear in the kiln to 700. Matrixes are dropping in price every day. Ur better off upgrading pieces to bis 700 and just farming m1 or 2 for slightly less than bis for free. That faction armor is great no doubt, but you can do better for free and save for material you actually need.

@@BundyBro_ You’re 100% right but what’s easier to explain to a new player? “Just save up and buy the faction armor for the role u wanna play” OR “so the most optimal way of spending the gold you earned on your way to 65 is to buy these things called matrixes, and what they do is allow u to upgrade named items, but only named items that are capable of being upgraded, and to get those named drops in the first place you gotta do x y or z…” like yea experienced players could def have an optimal way to get to and being end game ready but imo it’s kinda unrealistic to dump all that on a new player and expect em to just pick it up. Sure there are some who will do it and thrive, but most players who are just trying are def just gonna get overwhelmed. It’s def better imo to give ‘em a simple starting point and let ‘em go from there enjoying the game at their own pace.

@@dquack7567 Its really not that complex for content creators to open up their map on a video, show where to farm an item and tell them how to upgrade it. Theres already videos doing that currently...I looked up videos, I literally did that and Im pretty damn new. I only started in brimestone. Left before doing any max level content other than story and came back about a month before expac. I think you underestimate players nowadays. Why do you think BIS culture is so prevalent. Because information is so easily accessible. You are also taking away a big part of this expansion by not even telling them that they can upgrade 625 named items in the kiln with chomatic seals and matrix. But again, its not a bad choice if you have the extra cash as a long time vet. I just think saving gold for more important items is far more worth it.

Its actually kind of really bad advice suggesting to run 300 con. If you are properly geared and play properly you can and should get away with no more than 100-150. Running 300 con is the reason why people also think they need hated/despised perks.

Yeah, give a beginner advice to run low con who have zero knowledge of game mechanics. When they have better understanding of how bosses work, then they can lower their con. You’ve missed the entire point of this video

I literally started tanking at 100 con. Tanking is braindead easy in new world and if a new player can’t tank on 100 con from the start then they shouldn’t be tanking at all. As long as you have decent gear, a healer up and know how to press two buttons to keep up your fortify you won’t die.
