The great thing about the first Matrix is that it takes those philosophical concepts and wraps them up in a cool generally accessible action film. The issue with the next two is that it falls so far down the philosophical rabbit hole that it requires the audience to read those books as well.

But it is more prevalent in the part where neo uses his powers outside the matrix, proving they are still in the machine. The matrix, including its aesthetics, philosophical implications, and theoretical physics were directly ripped from Grant Morrisons "The invisibles" His lawyers even told Morrison to sue since he would have easily won, but Morrison didn't sure because he liked the movie
@NorHeadHunter5 жыл бұрын
Wish I could thumbs up this multiple times, everyone says the matrix was chiefly influenced by Ghost in the shell and anime, maybe Simulacra and Simulation, but anyone that knows about The invisibles knows that it is the real inspiration. It's too bad they didn't rip off my favourite thing from The invisibles, the backstory of the random guard that gets killed, humanizing a type of character that is always dehumanized, the cannon fodder baddie, should have happened in the lobby scene in the first Matrix, I choose the dude just reading his newspaper before getting an entire magazine emptied in his face out of fucking nowhere.

@@NorHeadHunter Among artists it often agreed that the best ones steal. To the point where certain concepts, scenes or lines are copied to the letter. In times long past that was actually the norm. Because using someone else's idea in a work of art which you're putting your own soul into was (and sometimes still is) seen as the highest praise. It means that the other artist has read/heard/seen your art, liked it, understood the idea, philosophy and concept, and made it their own so that more people could be influenced by it. draco18s It's not just the movies and the script, they also had to read the Matrix's insperation and some philosophy books and/or science theories or something like that, and then were tested on the deeper meaning of the script and possibly the inspiration. So I believe that was the difficult part.
@megadeathx5 жыл бұрын
@@joshthebrawler Nah, Larry was pretty specific about "everyone on their first reading of the script" and since they had to pass all those tests before being allowed to see the script... I'm betting they expected WAY more out of the story than what was shoehorned into the first movie and were confused that it incorporated practically 2% of what they were ordered to learn before hand. It'd be like having to read a 40 page document and given a 12 question multiple choice test, but the ass-hat who wrote the answer key didn't bother to randomize the answers' order and the whole test is just "mark B for points".

That just reeks of intellectual insecurity, doesn´t it? Making people take tests on the meaning of your scripts. I really don't know what's sadder, that only one actor had enough grasp of the material to show basic competency in it, or that the directors even felt they had to go into such detail over such basic concepts every intro to philosophy student gets, like the problem of solipsism, theory of mind, and the nature of knowledge. I really like the idea of Keanu scratching his head, chimp like, at the concepts the allegory of the cave is trying to illustrate though.

Mostlyharmless1985 ok, considering a lot of people have issues with philosophy in the Matrix there's one of three things going on here 1: you don't see any of these themes in the Matrix 2: you're a philosophy major who doesn't get that everyone else isn't a philosophy major 3: you just belong on /r/iamverysmart
@Mostlyharmless19856 жыл бұрын
To address your points: 1. Problem of solipsism. How do you know if you are a brain in a vat? Could the entirety of your existence be an elaborate simulation meant to fool you into thinking any external stimuli is actual? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLdhkqyTq6zGqnU.html Theory of mind: How would you consider and interact with a sentient machine? Would they see you the same way you see them? Would you even recognize them as another mind? Would they recognize you as another mind or a resource to be exploited? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNhyl7yeuNq-emg.html Nature of knowledge: Is knowing something enough to make it so, or is it such that your perception is the reality? Can your perception of reality take effect in reality proper, or tying back to the question of solipsism, can you perceive reality in such a way that your perception *becomes* the reality? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q6eIp7JmybPVdX0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eK53fKqozrOvZpc.html So there's one. 2. No, i'm not a philosophy major, the Matrix is not complex in it's philosophical nature, it has it's own internal answers to the questions it asks as to the nature of reality. It literally asks these questions then immediately answer them. 3. I'm not a smug enough cunt to belong on /r/iamverysmart The Matix's philosophy isn't complicated to grasp, or understand. It would not require a PHI1101 crash course to effectively act in it.

Mostlyharmless1985 alright, those are all really effective answers that were done in a good job. A+ for not just calling me a fag and not taking a week to respond. Not everyone gets these ideas, everyone is better at different things, teach a fish to climb I tree and all that.

Matrix and terminator were created and written by a black woman in early 80s I believe they just settled the lawsuit

OK she didn't win lawsuit (btw I said I believe whole time not I know for fact =) I liked your post but ever read the 3rd eye from 1981? Copyrighted and it is interesting to say the least. Here is a review of book years ago "I do read the obvious connections that can be seen in the Matrix and Terminator movies".

Thank you very much for that knowledge I appreciate it. The court papers and e-mails to studio are in the new revision of her book =) The "one" who stops the machines from causing nuclear disaster. Story is like Bible, Conspiracy Theories, Matrix and Terminator all in one. It isn't a great read only 30 pages but from 1981 and these movies that came out after, they should have gave her something out of court IMO.

+Tevo77777 Extraterrestrials are a fairly old antagonist going back into the late 19th century at least where the idea that something other than us could exist "out there" was well established. But yeah the idea that computers or machines could become the antagonist is a much more recent device late 20th century at least though there were some musings on the possibility such a thing could occur before that they took some time to enter the public eye. Early programmable universal computers were developed for wartime use after all.

The Matrix is an allegory for being transgender; extremely camp and all

I'd be willing to bet that the glasses were effectively glued on with some kind of cosmetic adhesive. Or sheer will power. Either or.

5:17 “Lawrence Fishburn is not a fuckin extra” sounds like something Samuel L Jackson would say casually, and something Mr.Fishburn would say if someone really pissed him off 😂😂😂

The scene when Sydney hits the kid with the car will not go unnoticed that is singlehandedly one of the best running jokes ever

I never found Matrix to be that confusing until the third one. I think being raised on a steady stream of scifi is all you need to understand it

My favorite gag in Scary Movie 3 is when the ring girl climbs out of the well at the end and she holds the chainsaw in the air like leatherface then that causes the ceiling to collapse on her

Oy! I had a guy named Flugge that has a family of custom lens crafters and frame engineers. The morpheus glasses are a silver spring hinge made in the 1800s. Larry wore one of only a few pairs made during the movie. It's believed that no1 alive can recreate the complex silver hinge.
