100% agree! Here is the US we didn’t get many diesel car options and now near as make no difference none on the new market. It’s sad because I had a F30 328d and it was perfect, fast enough, comfortable, great mpgs and good looking without screaming at ppl “Trust me I’m rich”! I’d buy this in a heartbeat if they brought it here.

Hey guys, question: i was thinking to buy one, but i will do s lot of short tracks as daily, e.g. 10km a day to work an back and maybe some smaller side trips - are these short trips bad for a diesel engine ? Shall i get and 340i? I would rly love a diesel again

@@crunchym2297 my commute is only 2 miles; not ideal but I do enough longer trips and spirited driving other times which nullifies any potential risk from the short trips. My friend has an m340i saloon; lifetime average is 31mpg; mine is 48mpg.

they never have fitted good quality sound systems, if i were you id go to a local sound specialist and get em to replace with a set of focals or audisons including a big old sub, the sub in the bmws are so flat lol

@@kermi99 it is heavy but always feels very composed. I owned a GTR before so the weight is something I’m used to. When I had the M140 it always felt skittish. You can’t push the 340d like the 140 but it’s a different type of car for a different purpose. I needed more space for my family. The 340D is the best all round car I have owned. It has its flaws, mainly the coasting and stop start which you can override by being in sport mode. I have a individual setting with everything turned up to the max bar the suspension and I love it

So is there any way to own a m340d and drive it as my daily in here in California United States ? If I can ship it overstates can I legally register it here ?

What do you have in case of a puncture now you have changed to non runflats?

@@stevem3998 I don't. Had a cracked alloy recently (BMW ones are made of balsa wood) and made it to dealer as was only a slow leak. If it was anything worse, I'd call BMW and get them to collect the car and take to dealership. No different to if I had runflats. One thing I have never complained about is their emergency services - always been brilliant and fast.

I fully aggree with bmw... but... have you ever driven a Porsche 911? it is waaaay beyond

I've driven EV vehicles with the heaters off and sometimes not even using my indicators fear of the range going down, no joke lol.

@@synchronicityization also depending in which country you live it might cause more pollution producing electricity than just driving a regular car, I get the point of getting pollution out of cities but moving problem to someone else is not rly fixing the problem

@@Kefuddle My all-time average is 7.7l/100KM. Google tells me that is 36.6 miles per imperial gallon. Part of that figure includes half a year with winter tires. Have not checked the i4 M50 :) Good luck

@@kermi99 weight as an absolute value may not be very valuable. The car has so much excess power that it does not really matter. We are spoiled by the amount of power in relatively mundane cars and may forget it but all these excess power and immediate availability eliminates any forward motion impact of weight. The bmw gearbox is amazing and the diesel and mild hybrid electric motors reduce any doubts. On the driving dynamics(roll/pitch/yaw) the weight is also not so visible as the active suspension is somewhat magical at a press of a button. Very comfy but without slosh in comfort mode even for degraded pavement. In sport mode it gets hard as a stone with as good stiffness as far as I can give it a sporty go. I am a father so I drive seldom in sport mode, basically for weekend joyriding by myself. Which comes back to the point the car is a daily driver for regular people who want to joy ride from time to time. Sorry if it was a bit too verbose answer.

@@_chipchip It’s a fancy executive car and that’s it. No sane person would buy this because it’s designed for a market that doesn’t exist. A company car driver will buy a 320 or 330 for tax benefits and someone who wants a performance car will buy a petrol. I bought an M440i because I wanted a performance car that I could use everyday. I can’t find any use for this car whatsoever. An M340D estate car maybe but not a saloon or coupe. These will depreciate like wildfire.

@King I have not noticed any weight issues on the car. I have already put over 3,000 miles and am loving the car. Thank god I didn't buy the M340i which I was very close to getting (M340i would have cost me more to run for slightly more performance). The torque on 340i is insane (700 nm) which makes it feel really powerful.

@@andrewhurstcars On mixed driving, I normally get 42mpg and if I am doing mosty motorway journey, I easily get over 50mpg. Even with a hard foot, I still easily get 45-46mpg on motorway journeys. This car has really surprised me with the mpg. I never thought I would get this type of mpg with a 340 horse power engine and an insane 700nm of torque. It is unbelievable how fast this car is. If you Google "fastest diesel cars", this comes up at top of the list. I am so happy I didn't get the M340i (which I was so closed to getting until I found out about M340d) as it would have been fortune to run. It would have been no different from my 2021 RS5 which was a nice car but was too costly to run. The M340d has hit the sweet spot as you enjoy a high performance car with great mpg. People say M340i is the perfect BMW but I disagree. I think M340d is the perfect BMW as it ticks all boxes. This video which Joe recorded is a proof of it. You will see dozens of people like me in the comments, who replaced their full M or full RS cars with M340d. What also surprised me is the suspension of M340d. This car is more comfortable than any Audi car I have ever owned (including A3/A4, RS5).

@@FarzadCheema cheers for the info. M340d looks like the one to go for, and a great all-round package. M340i certainly not ideal for higher mileage users, but a lot cheaper than the M3 - more of a better value M light car.

@@basharsafa5977 Same engine so both good. Really depends in my opinion on your preference for a SUV or a saloon or touring 3 series. Both excellent I think.

That was exactly the reason I just replaced my RS5 with the brand new M340d LCI. I had S3 and S4 before I bought an RS5 but once the honeymoon period is over, you start to hate these cars as they are bloody expensive to run. The full RS and M cars are not practical everyday cars. I realised I needed a car which offers a perfect balance between performance and fuel economy. M340d is a perfect choice and is the fastest diesel car available in the market.

Would love to see the B3 touring for that matter.

Realistically how many miles would you get from an average tank? Lots of the reviews say 700 miles but I find that hard to believe. I'm guessing 450-500?

@@1210mk5g I think it depends on how you drive. At around 65, if all you were doing is mile munching then 700 is perfectly doable. In mine, cruising at 65 with a 80% motorway and 20% mixed less sensible driving I regularly get over 600-650. Typically 52-55mpg for the tank.

The m550d is kinda unreliable with that quad turbo engine for some extra horses

Tbh, the 340i is much better, alot more character and better engine sound, not to mention its faster.

However if your doing predominantly motorway miles, the 40i is of little benefit compared to the 40D. In that environment the 40D is far superior. But one could then argue that the 30d is actually the pick of the range. That said I dont regret my decision on an X3 M40D one bit. Amazing car and engine.

Mate a m550d is all the car you would ever need. That engine is a monster in the x5 comparable to the svr unit just missing the legs

Maybe when the new A4/S4 arrives, the current generation is too old and far behind everywhere unfortunately.

I did exactly the same. I replaced my 2021 brand Rs5 with this car. I collected my brand new "G20 M340d xDrive Saloon LCI B57 3.0d" last week on Joe's recommendation and review and absolutely love it. As one of the reviewers said, it's like owning two cars in one, comfortable and economic to run in Comfort mode, an animal when switched to Sport mode. No other car would offer you this performance and economy at the same time.

Alpina used to be good, like really good. Because they made engines that didn't exists, like E34 B10 Bi-Turbo. Now they just slap tune on 335i and call it a day.
