I always thought Billy Gibbons deserved all the praise Clapton got. The way that guy combines Blues, Rock & TONE....man....what a trailblazer.

People that think Clapton is overrated don't have much context regarding how influential he was. They are clueless in a lot of ways. The vast majority of "stock licks" that 70s players like Page, Beck, David Gilmour, Leslie West, Tony Iommi, The Skynyrd guys, Paul Kossoff and so many more all came straight from Eric. Does your favorite guitarist play a Les Paul through a Marshall???? Gee I wonder who started that trend - yep, Eric Clapton. Eric's catalog in terms of music/song quality destroys virtually everyone's. John Mayall, Blind Faith, Yardbirds, Guest with the Beatles/George Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", Cream, Derek and Dominos and this list goes on. He could put out a 10 cd set and you'd know every song. So would most other music fans. Without Cream you have no Black Sabbath. No Van Halen. Cream defined the power trio. Jeff Beck was a much more innovative, inventive player than Eric, but Eric's take on the blues is top-notch. He makes it look easy because it is easy for him. Most of the blues standards rock guitarists/bands do were all unearthed by Clapton. Most players are too lazy to dig deep into the blues and find hidden gems. Eric spent a life time introducing rock fans to great blues songs. BTW, Beck and Page loved Clapton. There's a reason Eric plays stadiums and Traci Guns plays dumps. Quality of material over 50 years. Think Clapton peaked with Cream? Go listen to Derek and the Dominoes live from 1970. Listen to "Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad" Live from the Fillmore East on KZfaq here. If you don't feel anything, you probably don't have much of a pulse. And just because you have the chops to play that solo, no need to worry, you never could have come up with it. He's still capable of generating that excitement now.

Traci Guns is only saying this because he's a super leftoid and he didn't like Clapton's comments on the jab. He also said that Ted Nugent can't play guitar anymore which is a flat out lie.

Clapton show was ''THE'' most boring show in my entire life . Clapton sat down on a sofa and played like no one else is watching in front of few thousand people . The only ones who enjoyed the show, were the ones in adult diapers . I slept standing up like a damn horse . Security woke me up and I realised show was over ..

My all-time favorite guitar solo was done by Clapton in the song "Just Like a Prisoner" from his '85 "Behind the Sun" album.

What you don't understand is that, it's not what he's doing now, it's what he's done. I purchased a hard bound book that listed every single concert Eric has played live, he started around 1964. he's been performing since the early 60's! I had Cream Live, EC was Here, Goodbye Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire. All kick ass albums. How about his career with the Yardbirds, John Mayall, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominoes, Cream then on his own. He had a career equaled to no one. Sure, he's old, laid back, whatever, he's still a living legend. IKC what anyone says, I know the real truth about EC.

I totally agree with Tracii on Clapton being overrated. Man you should really check out the new Sunbomb album with Tracii Guns and Micheal Sweet. Fucking killer album and Tracii is on fire. So is Michael Sweet. Definitely worth checking out I think.

Have to agree with him on this one. “Layla” was Clapton’s pinnacle but let’s be honest it’s Duane Allman that makes that album and not Clapton. I saw the Beck & Clapton tour and Beck just spanked him.

Jeff Beck was my old guitar teacher's favorite guitarist. My old teacher is Greg Douglass(ex Steve Miller Band on Book Of Dreams & The Joker, ex Greg Kihn Band & ex Doobie Brothers). But yeah, Fresh Cream & Disraeli Gears are the Clapton stuff I like. But, Beck mowes!!! Blow By Blow. Greg played me a Rockabilly song by JB that blew me away!! Yeah, Beck is my choice. Unfortunately, I never got to see Traci Guns as I was by 89' I was well into my Thrash/Hardcore/Punk thing but I'd love to see LA Guns now. I agree besides Cream and D& D not a fan of Eric especially compared to Beck or Peter Green but as a song writer/producer Page is the man! I also love the first LA Guns album!

Clapton's talent is in playing on records. Not his song writing ability. The obvious examples are playing on the cream albums, Derek and the dominos albums, blind Faith albums, that blues cover album From the cradle , all the guest appearances he's made over the years. His live show has been good at points but most of the time it is substandard.

Tracii literally played a gig from a bathroom where his fans couldn't watch him in person......that takes the cake for lamest thing in live rock n roll history.

Couldn’t agree more. In fact I’ve been saying this for years and some people think I’m crazy. It’s only because they’ve heard over and over in the media that Clapton is this Godlike and innovative player. No doubt he is musically gifted and intimately knows his instrument. I saw Clapton live in the 90s and it was by far the most boring show I’d ever been to.

I liked Cream, but mostly for Ginger Baker, who was a rock n roll animal (although he would say he was more a jazz drummer)

Clapton with Cream was great. The Detroit 10/15/67 soundboard is a must. The guitar solo from NSU is one of the best ever by any rock guitarist.

I honestly do not get the whole Clapton thing. Or Hendrix for that matter. But I didn't grow up in that time, so I assume it was 'magic' of its time.

I don't know, No Sunshine of your Love, no N.I.B. No N.I.B. and Sabbath's song writing may have taken a more Jazz Rock Fusion direction, as opposed to a heavy guitar power chord driven one. And Cream and Eric Clapton's guitar influence can be heard heavily in Sabbath (and Deep Purple). No Sabbath, no Eddie Van Halen, No Eddie Van Halen, no Randy Rhoads. No Eddie Van Halen and no Randy Rhoads, means no Traci Guns. Rock N Roll is a living art form with it's own Ecosystem! You can't cut at it's roots without taking down the whole tree! And sorry Traci, but even you can't throw enough shade to make up for that tree when it's gone. So be cool and stay FROSTY!

I think Traci is spot on. I never have understood the whole Clapton as a guitar god thing. Good player, but IMO not great. But a great songwriter.

Completely agree with him. The only 2 songs he did worth a damn was sunshine of your love and Layla. Duane Allman made that song. Clapton is a prime example of being the first to do something but not the best. 😂 I shot the sheriff? Gimme a break. Traci has such a killer sound. Clapton, as a player, is a big yawn. He has a few things I like, but I've always found him to be a bit boring.

As a guitar player since 1977 I TOTALLY agree Clapton is overrated. He did bring the blues to the forefront and is a fantastic songwriter, but when Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck walked the earth calling Clapton God was very much of a stretch. He never played anything I could learn in minutes

I love Tracii and I'm not a big fan of Clapton. He's a great player but Page/ Beck their the elites out of that era. Now Tracii is a great player but where is in his career? I think Tracii is the guy from his era. Technically way more sound than Slash imo but his ego has turned his career and others to shit! Beck is great but Page had it all. Producer, engineer and architect of the greatest band ever! Tracii let that slip through his fingers. As much as he'll never admit it Steve Riley🙏 was the backbone of LA Guns and ego blew it up!
