In the early 80's David Lee Roth said he wanted people to feel like they were walking on air when they left a Van Halen concert...and man did I ever. Eddie was the MASTER of guitar, and I doubt there will ever be an equal. A very big part of my youth died today.

Skully, I love the username, and, yes this is late in coming, cuz it has been 3 yrs now. Yes, you did feel great after a VH concert. @ times with Roth ( Fair Warning, 1984 ) and 3 with Hagar ( 5150, Monsters of Rock, OU812, and a couple I do not think were album tours ) I spent nearly my entire life ( 1980-......) studying his playing. Playing from 4 to 6 hours a day to get close. Ne3ver got all that close, m,aybe some stuff, but not all. Not by a long shot, and I am friggin GOOD! I still have a tug of war in myself when I hear or see Ed. It is Painful as well as glorious. We 80`s guys were the luckiest people out of almost any generation. Yes, we did all die a bit Oct, 6 2020.🎸🎧🎹🎵☝

I grew up in the 80's, and I LOVED Metal music. I'm a guitar player, singer. When the news broke about Eddie passing on, I didn't know how to feel. I went for a drive, and an hour later it hit me hard. He may be gone, but his music and legacy will live on....

I was at work (bricklayer) on a jobsite full of "real men"- cough cough....then I heard the news on the radio...i couldn't believe it, I was frozen, my heart sunk. I wanted to cry for the man even though I didn't know him, ive never met him, yet I've spent a huge amount of time listening to and watching videos of him. I just wanted to leave work, crack open a cold beer and crank Van Halen up loud and allow the tears to flow. Can't do that surrounded by tradies....but i did when I got home. People who love music, musicians and feel what they listen to will know what im talking about. If you're reading this you understand me. God bless you Eddie you were a trailblazer, a visionary and the greatest guitarist to grace the world with your talents and skills. R.i.p - Happy trails

My father passed away in 2017 and listening to rock bands like Van Halen Motley Crue And Black Sabbath got me through my dads passing because my dad was a huge heavy metal fan, and got me into heavy metal at a young age. So hearing That Eddie is gone it’s like the wounds on my father‘s passing are opening up again. I will forever be grateful for Eddie Van Halen and the music of Van Halen. Rip Eddie you are among the rock gods now and forever

I can't take anymore of 2020. I'm 3 weeks out from evacuation orders because of massive wildfires here in Oregon and that event left me shaken. This just takes my nerves and shreds them. I'm gutted. Eddie Van Halen was my first hero and role model all the way back to the summer of 84. The moment I saw him and heard his music I knew exactly what I was going to do with my life and god dammit I did it. 33 years later and I'm a professional guitarist and I have Eddie to thank for ALL my success. He bonded my wife and I together in junior high. He was just my everything. Goodbye Ed. RIP.

I was out all day fishing came home and found out Eddie died. I sat down in the kitchen chair and was totally silent. I'm a drummer and yes it felt like a part of my youth was ripped away from me. I knew he was struggling with cancer and I knew this day would come but man not now! I instantly flashed back to when I was a kid and hearing Eddie's guitar sound and skill and it felt like someone finally got it right! I pretty much abandoned VH after diver down and moved on to Pantera and other paths but those first 4 albums were such a large part of how Eddie and Alex influenced me and put me on the path of my music career. He affected my life in a great way. I can only pray that we will see some new guitar gods come along but I doubt it.

So mourn, my friend, and just think how lucky you were to see him live and to be able to appreciate his fabulous work. Brother, we're all with ya. Thank you for such a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to our King Edward. The Missus woke me up crying and for the entire day we couldn’t listen to a note of King Edward without the waterworks comin’ - so many good times with his music -it felt weird We found watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie makes it somewhat easier to bear. We literally had a day of intensely mourning. It might sound daft but Ed’s playing and attitude is hugely responsible for inspiring me to be the person I am. There’s a Bad Religion ( Punk Band ) Lyric that says it al “ Everyone you love leaves a mark on your soul, The world is a little less bright without King Edward Im fighting cancer and depression and its been especially tough with the news of Eddie’s passing but hearing all these wonderful tributes and reaction and the love and joy he brought and is bringing….makes it a tad bit easier Much love and respect! Thank you for honouring our King Edward. Eddie's music touched us so deeply because of his love for the instrument and the innovations he has done. To us, it feels like the brightest and best brother, Uncle, friend mentor you ever had is not in our realm anymore. You have Nothing but love from the rock/metal / guitarist community, respect for your tribute to EVH, Rock n Metal does not get the exposure and respect that other genres get. So, you are forever in the hearts of many a Rock / Metal / Guitar fan's hearts. Stay safe & all the best wishes to you. Watch this Video Interview and you'll see why we're hurting so much...The world is a little less bright without King Edward This is a brilliant interview if you haven’t seen it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8hiaadpx6i-cmw.html&ab_channel=Z%C3%B3caloPublicSquare most people don’t know the King Edward was a bi-racial half Asian / half white Immigrant and that his lifelong friends were the black kids who stood up for them when they came to the US. A definitive American Dream story. Eddie buried Dimebag Darrell from Pantera with his original Bumblebee Guitar when Dime’s life partner Rita asked him to make a Copy Ed said “an Original deserves an Original” Vinnie Paul ( Paantera ) Dimebag’s brother says the last words his brother said to him was Van f+*in Halen’ their nightly ritual before hitting the stage. Frank Zappa loved and respected Eddieand got him to teach Dweezil who was obsessed with ED When Frank died Ed was THE 1st first to call with condolences and to offer any assistance. He was the 1st to mod his guitars in such an extreme way chasing tone, Creating the Super Strat - Humbuckers in Strat style guitars, Waxing Pickups, Variac on his amp and did his first 2 albums with the original Fender Whammy which led to the creation of the Floyd Rose Whammy Bar. His Rhythm Playing was funky, tasteful and rockin’ and his songwriting is the reason his loss is affecting grandparents, parents, kids and all ethnicities alike as Van Halen songs will live forever. Enjoy EVH kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gp-iYLGp2r_Xqps.html&ab_channel=Hazardteam

I was 13 in the summer of 1978 when I saw Van Halen for the first time. From the first chords of "On Fire," it was obvious this something new and powerful. The whole band, I mean. As the band kicked into "Eruption," DLR said "Ladies and gentlemen, the premiere guitarist of the 1980's, Mister Edward Van Halen..." Edward was beyond next-level by comparison with the guitarists around at that time. I saw VH again in 1979, 1980, 1981 and twice in 1982. I lost interest in the band and never saw them again or bought their records, but always respected what Edward Van Halen did and what he meant to the rock pantheon. No one can take away what he did 1978-82.

Heard the same things from people when Peart died. They just don't get it. I teared up alot reading Wolfie's post. I can't imagine what thats gotta be like for him. Hits harder too cause I'm the same age as him and my father is a diehard VH fan and the one who got me into not only them but classic rock in general and music is where we really bonded over. I agree with you fully. I was just commenting in another video that when I was growing up in the 80's, Eddie was the guitar GOD that everyone else was compared against. He was the standard, the gold standard that everyone mentioned when it came to guitar players. Whenever we would argue about who the greatest guitar player was back then, like Randy Rhodes, Malmsteen, Vai, etc., Eddie was always ABOVE that argument. While everyone else would mean mug during their solos, Eddie would smile. While everyone else seemed to struggle and force out their notes, Eddie seemed to play with such fluidity and ease that it almost seemed "effortless" for him. That's really what made him seem above and beyond any other guitar great of that era. Eddie was the greatest.

I agree 100% The " Fair Warning" concert i saw at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in 1981, was fucking phenomenal. I was blown away. So much, that I had to sneak down to front row to be close.

We're all tore up today bro, right there with ya man! And yes I've had the privilege of seeing the original line up 4 times, front row center every single time!! Best days of my life! Eddie touched every single Guitarist since 1978 and beyond! Long live the King, EVH RIP!!

Hard times, awful news. But i like to think that this kind of people never die. Just like when we watch Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo, i think that he's alive, when we will hear Eddie playing in Women And Children First, or any of his first 6 records, he will be alive with us. Condolences to family and friends. And the fans, well, we still have his wonderful music. RIP Eddie, one of the greatest in rock'n'roll history, and thanks for everything.

Rumors were Eddie hadn't been doing well so when I heard the news it wasn't a total shock but I still was shocked. As a younger teen KIZZ was my favorite band but by time I was a sophomore in high school in the early 80's Van Halen was my band. I did see them in he early 80's and man were they good. Band was so tight. To this day I still say those early 80 Van Halen live shows are the best concerts I've ever seen. RIP Eddie.

I’m a huge Pantera fan & I had the same reaction when Dimebag passed... Feels like you loose a family member when someone who you looked up too dies!
