It amazes me that people are talking about LFC's search for Klopp's replacement as if it has only just begun; they've had 3-months notice already and the fact that they've now gone public (and decided to move on from Lijnders and Schmadtke) suggests that they've probably already identified their main candidates, had a positive response from them and are in serious negotiations. They may have even sewn the whole thing up more or less but are being cautious/respectful...

Personality and compatibility with the club fans and ethos are a key factor! That’s why personally I’m not so sure about de zerbi, but someone like this as Frank might suit the club more! All that is if Alonso is not the first choice.

Also, Pep didn't win any trophy in his first season at City. They finished 4th the previous season under Pellegrini before and won the League Cup I believe.

Pep Lijnders should be the next manager. Klopp had said he's the one who has been the tactician behind the scenes. The players could carry on playing as they are. If it doesn't work then try to get Klopp back or at least don't jump the gun with Alonso. Stevie G had one good season, even in the Europa League, but then flopped badly. Alonso is introverted as well as inexperienced and I don't see him being a big enough personality for us. Liverpool fans need to stop obsessing over ex players and think with their heads.

Xabi Alonso is the rising star , unfortunetly rising stars scare me in that they have no real body of work to back them up. I like Tomas Frank - he is tactically astute , will play the team similar to Klopp initially and most importantly , his players love him.

Scott's mad eg. "Salah almost left last season" "VVD said he's unsure". This is the bullshit narratives from the punditry and not what's actually been said or happened. Also, it doesn't make sense for them to not treat Ljinders as leaving with the backroom staff for now but that doesn't mean he's not being considered.

You are judging Frank Thomas based on what you assume Brentford is a midtable club. Klopp brought Mainz05 promotion to BL. Frank Thomas was partly responsible for Brentford promotion to PL and took over as first head coach and kept Brentford up. Frank Thomas have this etho in the dressing room....."no dickhead" Players and fans said he is a nice and warm but serious man.......his players obvious like him. Frank Thomas plays similar to Klopp THIS season.

Perhaps more teams will understand what happened to Chelsea - having lost their board, manager, all staff and getting the whole business shut. It does take time to reappear again. Hate all you like, but it takes time. No amount of hiring or cash fixes it. It is just a graft.

I completely disagree with Harry's notion that there is a demand on LFC's next manager to be successful instantly; even with the benefit of Klopp's magic, LFC have finished behind Man City more often than not. I personally do not expect whoever comes in next to change that instantly - and part of the attraction of Alonso is that, his ties to LFC will grant him a greater degree of patience. I also think that the shadow of Man City and Pep are being overlooked here - both in the role they have played in Klopp's decision (chasing them down fruitlessly has clearly taken it's toll in Klopp) and the expectation that will be placed on his successor as a result. Most LFC fans will be thinking "If Klopp can't overcome Pep, what hope has a less experienced coach like Alonso/Di Zerbi/Frank etc?" Personally, I think the attitude needs to be: Pep (and perhaps De Bruyne and Haaland) will most likely go in the next couple of years so now is the time to start planning to take advantage when that happens. Arsenal seem pretty well placed to do so, having backed (and shown patience with) a young, inexperienced coach, so it makes sense for LFC to do the same. Besides, there's simply nobody out there who has anything close to the profile that Klopp had when he arrived.
@SkoolyAd
@SkoolyAd 3 ай бұрын
I also think that people are overlooking the importance of LFC sorting out their next Technical/Sporting Director - with Jorg Schmadtke also on his way out. It feels highly-likely that LFC's next coach will be younger and less-experienced than Klopp was, and so will need plenty of help. It doesn't surprise me to read articles suggesting that Michael Edwards has been contacted again - and it wouldn't surprise me if it was revealed that LFC had targeted Di Zerbi and the whole Brighton back-office as a package...

it depends on the smoke Liverpool fans put out there. from what im seeing so far Alonso is the 3rd best manager in the world and will absolutely be a huge hit at LFC. In which case why wouldnt i, as a rival fan, not ask questions/take shots if Alonso falls short of klopps standards and not win leagues etc?
@SkoolyAd
@SkoolyAd 3 ай бұрын
@@samwize28 I think Harry's point was that Liverpool fans will demand instant success - which I disagree with. Without wanting to be rude, who cares what you or any other rival fan expects? I'm sure you couldn't give a toss what Liverpool fans think of your current team's manager...
@samwize28
@samwize28 3 ай бұрын
@@SkoolyAd yeh i see what you are saying. Harry is wrong to assume LFC fans will demand success (there will be LFC fans out there that will, but its an unfair generalisation). And no, as a utd fan i dont care what rival fans say about utd. I (and the majority of utd fans) know and have always said/predicted that utd will continue to struggle for as long as the glazers control the club (part of the reason why the protests are a thing) so being reminded that I/we are correct by rival fans dosnt offend me. Whats different here is that liverpool fans are actively predicting that Alonso will be a success and is amazing etc. This is free ammo for rivals if that prediction is not correct and alonso fails. You might say you dont care but shots will be fired regardless, and you would have provided the ammo.

The Alonso situation snookers Liverpool fans when it comes to Klopps legacy. Either one of the following are true, but it cant be both: - Klopp is a world class, generational manager (as LFC fans have been arguing for years), and that no manager can match his standard, meaning a downgrade is coming without doubt no matter how good Alonso is - a hard pill to swallow for LFC fans. - Klopp is merely a 'good' manager (as some rival fans would argue), and that more credit is owed to FSG and the setup they have created to support their manager (who will go on to support Alonso, and ensure a smooth transition between managers) - which is the hope/expectation i am noticing from LFC fans this week.

You've only snookered yourself by trying to sound clever. I suppose Paisely's immense success means that his predecessor Bill Shankly was just 'merely good' too.

Pure orse manure. Shanks setup tje structure that brought LIV to it's greatest era. He is universally revered. Yet ... Paisley who followed him and benefitted from yjat setup actually won more. Also revered, but not quite to the same extent, despite the titles, bc he didn't build it. If Alonso is his successor and succeeds, klopp will not be diminished. He built this era of LIV and no 9ne is ever going to take that away from him.

@@nichobee i think Paisley & Shankly were both immense managers who happened to follow each other. Are you willing to state as of 30.01.24 that Alonso is, or will become an ''immense'' manager? Because if so, rival fans will hold Alonso to that standard and ask questions when points are dropped.

i think this is what Utd are keeping tabs on. ETH has 18months on his contract and is essentially a caretaker manager. The city case is going to take thereabouts that long to resolve. If city are guilty, its Utd who will be first in line to pick him up, and by that time Ineos will have brought in serious sporting directors, recovered from FFP limits, and made a start on facilities. Pep would consider it, he wouldnt even need to relocate!
