Hello Jami. Sweet Indie. She does not want to be with the littles she loves being with the donkeys and horses which is so sweet. Glad she went back easily. Rita is a whole different story and you are all learning how best you can help her. The more you see the more your all learning too. Thankyou for trying your best for her. Have a fantastic weekend take care and God Bless. 💕🙏👢

Jami your thoughts on Rita are spot on! Those were my thoughts on the geldings also! They learn basic manners from their mom and other mares in the herd.
@patelk36489 ай бұрын
I said all along that Rita needs the guidance of other horses...preferably a mare. She shows all the signs of weaning too soon and not having had knowlegeable handlers. Wild horse herds globally all have a head stallion....but theyre actually controlled by the Main mare. Rita is incredibly beautiful...and finding a more dominant mare to be her companion would be awesome.

Jamie it is clear to me that Rita was hand raised. Compare her to Ruby. Ruby right now bites and kicks you and Lester . You have Ruby back with regular cows so she will soon learn to behave, but Rita has not had that. A lot of Rita's behavior is seeking the human attention she is use to. Look how easily she comes when called that is not normal young horse behavior.
@shelbyheckman12349 ай бұрын
I think that's a really good observation! It is unusual for a young horse to come when called, so perhaps she was hand raised.

Poor Ernie was having a hormone breakdown 😂😂. Jamie, you are so right about Rita. She still needs a mother’s guidance and discipline. Barbie may benefit from a mother figure as well. Both fillies are so beautiful and smart. it would be criminal not to bring in the big guns to teach them horse etiquette. Poor Brie would benefit from some obedience lessons for Barbie. I really learned a lot from Barbie and Rita’s play date. It revealed so much. God’s blessings

Ernie is so funny, wondering if Indie is at that age and made him frisky lol. I have suggested on previous posts that Rita was perhaps taken from her mother too early and needs the influence of a calm mare. Perhaps it's time for another rescue? getting a calm but confident mare that has had foals would do Rita the world of good, I would get one bigger than her though. You could even get a riding horse for yourself !!
@janmckeever98609 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. Seeing Rita with Barbie I thought maybe Rita didn't get enough time with her mother. I didn't know if Barbie had had a baby before but she has the calm temperament of a mature horse which may be better than nothing at the moment. I hope you can find a way to get Rita the mothering she needs because I believe she is a wonderful horse and can have an amazing life with you or someone who will love her just as much.

Good Morning Jami, Indy was cute running around. With Rita I really think she needs a seasoned mare. You could rescue a retired Broodmare for her. It will give her the patience but correction she needs and a partner. If the broodmare is rideable ...you could start ponying her next to the broodmare as you ride. That will teach her a lot. ❤❤❤

Jami, I think you got it. I’ve thought that all along. Maybe some people you know may have a mare that’s a good mom horse, that will help Rita to calm down a little. I’ve always thought that leaving the babies with their moms will make them behave. Just like Ruby. I so wished that the babies could have stayed with their moms, but I know it wasn’t possible in their cases. It’s just sad to see them with the girls and the moms and babies don’t know each other. I pray you guys can try this with Rita. The only option I know of is to maybe contact some people who raise horses only and see if they can help with her acting out. Not sure if she’s put with a herd of mares if that may calm her down some. Just a second though, maybe try putting her into the bull pasture for a day. That might tame her down a bit. They aren’t going to take her acting out.

(We- everyone) ( Babies of ISS& LHL) all need a place to feel safe, secure, free to be ourselves & have the commitment & consistancy of community, friends or family, mentors & support to shine examples of learning to live our best lives. We are are survivors of something and I know with observation & patience Rita will learn & live her best life....nourished & safe. Jami, I continue to learn & grow from the life & videos you share. Rita might not have her best life space in the pecking order yet, but she isnt fighting for food or being neglected. She's ok ( in her here & now) and things can only get better with the guidance, creativity, observation and time you are giving her dilemma. YES! I remember Beverly was mean, pushy, sassy and a problem child... Who knew Beverly the Terror would be a true shining star, a hero in her own way and Dixie was the spirit that accepted, taught & loved her back even when she was egging Dixie into shenanigans. Rita is in the right place for right now with the best people to help sort her place in life out. Love you Jami & Lester! Thankyou!❤🌟❤️🌟💯🌟❤️

I think your correct on your assessment of Rita needing a mother figure. I know y'all love her but her best course of action would be to be pastured with Barbie. The darn grass is pitiful at LHL, and the predators are way too close for comfort. I'm so glad the adorable Finnegan and Starla are safe and enjoying life back at ISS. Thank God Lester was able to get the beautiful new baby Longhorn out of the woods. Ringo got his groove back when he spotted GusGus and those sexy little female fainting goats. He was even walking around with his tongue hanging out and peeing on his own face again! I never thought I would think that was adorable, but I do. When Ringo jumped up on the trampoline to impress the girls, my heart just melted. Ruby is beating the crap out of Lester and Jami. She is a beautiful little monster. Dani is a sweet little angel. Annie is being a wonderful mother to precious little Okie. Okie is such a bright little munchkin and way beyond adorable. Looks like he might even be affectionate to humans. Rita is such a beautiful, mischievious pain in the butt, problem child. She is getting on everyone's nerves and needs motherly love and an occasional hard nip or kick in the butt. She is like a kid who has to go to detention every day. I wonder if Super Nanny does horses. Maybe Rick could swing by for a visit? Indie is in heat and in an odd position, needing someone to protect and a herd that will be nice to her. Poor Ernie is really frustrated. Maybe someone should loan him a ladder or some stilts. Ima Jean seems unfazed by it all. Lol. And then there's poor Tex, screaming all day because he can't see his females. I think they are doing it on purpose and getting perverse pleasure out of annoying him. But, at least we have rain and cooler weather. Managing a sanctuary is so blinking complicated! Sheesh! Sending love and lots of prayers. You need them! 🫏🦙🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏😍🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏🐎🐂

My goodness. ! Ernie is confused lol Your thoughts on are most probably correct Jami in one form or another. Rita never learned to approach or respond to other horses. She may have even been a bottle baby. When she and Barbie do form a bond it would be in both their interest to be part of the herd. It’s going to take time though. Is Bri willing to let Barbie stay with Rita for quite sometime? If she were mine I would put the donkeys in one pasture and the horses in another until Rita learns horse manners. She will most likely always have a higher energy level but maturity will help a great deal. Sadly the round pen, which I love, has created some dangerous corners in that location I hope y’all find the right answer for her. She is a wonderful horse and she loves you ❣️❣️❣️
@TheCrabbyCake9 ай бұрын
Rita would benefit most by living in a group of horses her own age with possibly another babysitter horse to keep everyone in line. She would be able to burn off energy playing with the youngsters and also get corrections from the older horse. This is a very common arrangement with weanlings until they are ready for more targeted training in their 3 year old year. Physically and mentally, horses aren't considered mature until around 5 so all she needs now it time to mature and have the basics of handling reinforced. I would look into a small local breeding farm with a good reputation that can provide her with the proper environment for another year or so. There is not much to do with yearlings besides let them grow up and I'm sure you could find someone who needs a companion for their baby.
@debranipper9 ай бұрын
Jami, You could always advertise and offer boarding and feed to the owner a Mare that is good with other horses, that is a more dominant Mother figure type. That's a long shot though, there would have to be a whole lot of trust on all sides. Maybe Barbie could help with more play dates. I know y'all have a lot going on at both places, plus you work, and then you work at both places too. How DO You Do It? Are you really a superhero, in cute dresses? I'm beginning to think so! You, young lady are quite amazing!

Barbie actually was doing well with Rita, She did not let Rita push her and would give instant subtle corrections, yet not go overboard with chasing, more just a warning look. When Rita "asked permission" to come close Barbie allowed her to graze beside her, when Rita would come in bossy she got told NO quickly and the Barbie went back to grazing.
