I purchased this on their kickstarter and I am so happy to see a review. I think I will be quite happy with it. I just recently brought Alpaka’s element max sling and absolutely love it. That strap that comes with it also looks so much more comfortable then the first one you showed. Cannot wait for it to get here!! Awesome video!!

Thank you for the video Aaron - I backed it early, im planning to use it with my sony xm5, so pretty spot on for me. I look at this as a desk caddy FIRST...the sling component is a way of carrying it from one desk to another - in that perspective this thing makes a lot more sense.

good looks! I think it's a desk caddy first as well, but I love it as a tech pouch too - easy to toss in my backpack and isn't too bulky. Sling-mode I'm still on the fence about

I think a big alternative (not a sling but a great desk caddy/pouch) is the evergoods cap2. Even has a similar floating shelf that moves to accommodate larger items. Worth a look if you’re into this form factor.

Yea, I immediately thought of the evergoods cap2. Seems nearly identical, but with magnets and a sling strap attachment.
@NolanOfConsequence
@NolanOfConsequence 10 ай бұрын
I've had my eye on the CAP2 also, but one negative for me is the footprint, i.e. how much space it takes up on the desk when open, because the top rests on the desk, essentially doubling the footprint when open. This Alpaka doesn't have that "problem", since the top folds over and hangs vertically.
@mykeljewell
@mykeljewell 10 ай бұрын
I hear that. I'm interested in the alpaca. I will say the quality of the cap2 (just got the new griffin with the wax canvas) is just amazing. I don't mind the footprint when I really just love everything about it. But you're right I’ll hold final opinions til I get my hands on this Alpaca one@@NolanOfConsequence

Would have loved for a little bit more footage of you wearing the sling in front and back. i'm debating between this and the Tech Case (regular size) and would have loved to be able to get a sense for how this looks as a sling because aside from the bulk, aesthetically the shape make look a bit goofy and could have used a bit more 'rounding' of the lid/flap. my impression is that the vertex is an S-tier caddy, an A-tier tech pouch (slightly niche and less versatile due to its size, but great if that's your usecase), and a B-tier sling, whereas the Tech Case is a B-tier caddy (self-standing can be finnicky, doesn't really do the magical 'presenting all your tech stuff' view), an A-tier tech pouch (good mix of size/organization and semi-compressibility when thrown in a big), and an A-tier sling (nails down the shape and the back 'protected' pocket, but items can fall out the gusset gap). but id love to hear what you think
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 14 күн бұрын
solid analysis but I would say that both are not great slings, they are def pouches/caddies first. An A-tier sling is designed to be an A-tier sling like the Bellroy Venture Ready 2.5L, Aer Go Sling, etc
@milkdoes
@milkdoes 14 күн бұрын
@@Nomads.Nation i appreciate the reply and your take on the tech case! the shape made it seem like it could potentially hug well and be a good sling, on your back is a different experience. i had a venture ready in hand and definitely understand the praise, but i used to use the Peak Design 5L Sling and think 2.5L might be a bit small (I'm not seeking pocket relief, but capacity to hold all the random stuff when im traveling and out for 12 hours a day)

That dual access to the "wires pouch" is quite genius. It's just like the Evergoods Civic 2L Access pouch, which I think I would have added to the recommended section at the end. In the end, it's quite bulky for me and I prefer to keep my headphones in a separate, dedicated hard case, with a much smaller pouch for smaller things. Great video as always.

@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 10 ай бұрын
it being small is a great thing cuz bulky tech pouches suck, BUT, an extra .5 liters would have made the pouch fit a few more crucial tech products (but then again, that's always the case right, so Alpaka had to draw the line somewhere)

I bought this through their Kickstarter and I am really impressed with this tech pouch. In fact I am building my personal travel item around this pouch. It holds the Sennheiser Momentum 4's perfectly and all my cables and international power adapters. I did have the same opinion about the handle being a little over built but with battery packs and ANC headphones the weight of the pouch is up there, so maybe it is necessary.

Love your reviews, all of em even if im not in need of a bag. But may i add a suggestion, make a cardboard cutout of a 14” and 16” laptops and maybe a Switch dimension too, that way you can 100% be sure is the advertised stuff can fix, ideally if you had an actual tech even if it’s completely broken. There’s so many backpacks that advertise 16” compartment but they are super snug while others can actually fix 17” Windows laptops (since 16” windows is usually bit bigger that standard 16”macbook)

@@Nomads.Nation 14 and 16 inch MBP (the new m1/2) are definitely a new standard for sizing. On a Windows Laptops size things a bit more complicated since 14,15,16 and now even 17" all are popular sizes (looks for Razer Blade laptops, Asus TUF/SCAR lineup, and DELL XPS). Best bet would be making a cutout of biggest or average laptop for each size (14,15,16,17). For Nintendo Switch its pretty easy since its one-size

Evergoods CAP2 on steroids ;) Personally I am not a fan of bulky tech pouches, as well as slings/tech pouches combo Totally agree, such combo will never be 100% sling or tech pouch

Why CAP2 was not included in the alternative recommednations when it is obvious first product with that design? Maybe because of the intentional intiation of discussion in comment section hmmm

This is a total rip-off of the Evergoods CAP2. With the addition of the magnets on the flap and the sling mode. Alpaka makes great products and I recently purchased a ton of their Hub ecosystem mods and even their Elements backpack in Multi-cam. But that doesn't still stop this from being a rip-off.
@Nomads.Nation
@Nomads.Nation 10 ай бұрын
thanks for your comment! so you are 100% certain that Evergoods invented the opening style used in the CAP2? Because many people have told me that Evergoods ripped off old camera bags from the 80s that have been using that exact design for decades.
@paraagshah4153
@paraagshah4153 10 ай бұрын
@@Nomads.Nation I'm not aware of bags going back to the 80s. Wouldn't even know the brands or where to find them. However, the lid with a mesh pocket that can also be accessed once the lid is open, the movable divider, the internal organization pockets, almost all of these design elements are a rip-off. The CAP2 lid looks more elegant the way it opens and rests on the table as a desk caddy in my opinion. I just got mine delivered yesterday.
