Another brilliant tutorial. It’s amazing what a difference it makes to the look of the model when you add the colours from the basing on to the lower legs/feet, tying the two together. Loving the Horus Heresy series.

Thank you for doing this video. I've been really wanting to see how you utilize dry brushing on an actually small miniature. Purchased your entire lineup of brushes recently. Just waiting for them to show up. Now I just need to figure out how to apply these things to non metal textures like skin and cloth and leather

I plan on doing up a Blood Angels force when I get my hands on the Horus Heresy. I love how their Red pops on the table, and their background in the lore from being real savage underdogs to the tragic angelic heroes we know today has always been one of my favourite details about the Legion. I feel like they would look fantastic with a dry brushed look, nice and gritty gear for fellas who love to get stuck in 🩸

So happy you picked the alpha legion for this video! Awesome job! Seems like they're done with an airbrush so often so it's nice to see how to get a high quality finish without one. As far as the next color scheme, I'd love to see your take on a metallic emerald green and gold scheme with the salamanders with chipping and scorch marks.

I'd be really interested to see how you'd go about grimdark Night Lords (maybe even full on grim derp if you're feeling it). The armour lightening is super distinctive, but it looks like it'd be really easy to be ham handed and clumsy

A chapter from the Badab War would be so cool. Maybe the Howling Griffons or another split armour colour marine - would love to see how you’d approach those crisp lines! Also mk6 fits pretty nicely with the Badab aesthetic! It’s not Horus Heresy but it’s certainly smaller scale heresy!

Would love to see the death guard done, good chance to show how you can use weathering effects to make a mini look at an even higher level, like dirty downs rust etc. Only 2 main colours the dirty white and green so would be really quick and suit this style well.

My suggestion is for some weathered, savage VI Legion (Space Wolves/The Rout/Vlka Fenryka) paint scheme, leaning into the Viking thematics instead of the wolf thematics

Absolutely stunning work as always! However I think we would all love/need to see a scheme/method for the first traitors to set foot on the bastions of the imperial Palace, they come in midnight clad with etheric lightning dancing across their armour, they were going rogue before Horus made it cool! Hi there, really enjoyed the tutorial mate, you’ve got great talent! I’m struggling a little myself with this scheme, I’m following the mix of Terradon and Aethermatic and it’s coming up a lot greener than I’d like. Was trying to aim for the scheme in the thumbnail for my Alpha Legion. Any advice?

take a look at the GW tutorial titled Pre-Heresy Alpha Legion, it’s another option for their paint scheme. It’s also efficient if you want to paint an army in a reasonable amount of time

I think the Horus Herey era Alpha Legion colour scheme is good enough. I would add a second contrast after the silver drybrushing for the blue-green turquoise to come out over the metallic.

Horus Heresy Chapter/Legion, probably have to say a supper battered Imperial Fist Or Luna Wolves marine. Started reading Seige of Terra novels and Horus Rising at the same time so having a love for both of them at the moment!

What do you think about getting an already painted black legion, covered in oak colored wood varnish dipping (so being a bit greenish-tinted black), and giving them a layer of blue-ish contrast on the armor? Could that work as a darker version of alpha legion?

Since you asked for suggestions, how about the Alpha Legion? But their 2and edition paintjob, where you can't tell if they are blue or purple.

I'd really like to see you do World Eaters. White armour with heavy weathering [due to neglect] and some blood spatter even? Also, I'd like to see a really nice shade of blue for the shoulders and backpack.

@@ArtisOpus yep. I have done contrast before but wanted to try the candy coat to rule them all. It actually airbrushed on well but for a full army I’ve had to use three pots so far 😂

I’m going to try out your mix for my Alpha Legion this weekend when I pick up my box set. How much medium did you add? Thinking of making up a bottle of my own mix to airbrush the army easily.

About 1 part per 2-3 of colour mix on the first application, a little more for the glaze (or just less on brush is fine). Do it man, share the results, too, very interested to see how it goes airbrush, it should work with exactly the same steps! I would keep the drybrush between colour mix coats though for sure, as a note :)

Hi, thanks so much for this. As a newcomer one of the things that is giving me the most anxiety about committing to a legion is whether I can possibly do a paint job that I like the look of! This looks amazing to me and really helps me get closer to figuring out what to do with my age of darkness box. One question though, do you think this is possible to recreate on the larger tanks without an airbrush? Just wondering if it will be possible to get a smooth finish using a similar approach on a tank (I have never painted one). I'm really liking the metallic, glossy marines that can then get dirtied up in the fires of war. Suggestion: How would you approach making the standard blood angels scheme more "heresy"? I feel their heresy artwork has a darker and more glossy vibe.

You're welcome, dude :) No difficulty with the larger vehicles, because the filter goes over metallics you just have to approach them well, and you're pretty much good! Check our metallic tutorials on the channel, but you basically do exactly what we did, just with larger brushes. The nice thing is that series D XL can go so fast, you'll barely spend any more time on the first stages than you do on a small guy. I would love to try the BA, super shiny and deep and glossed up over metallics!

Metallics are so much more fun when your native reflections are colored, too. Mix Golden's Blue/green interference paints, and an appropriate colored ink, bearing in mind that darker is better... Apply 2-3 passes over a gloss black undercoat, and topcoat with a high-gloss varnish. Hand-apply matte or satin varnish over any appropriate details, after finishing them. If you want to screw with people, use a completely different colored ink, like scarlet, or magenta, since the model will reflect wildly different colors, depending on the angle of the light hitting it.
