Captain Pike in original series because whether it be in a Rock Band where somebody left or got fired ( Signe Anderson , Jefferson Airplane , Rod Evans, Deep Purple, or Dave Evans AC?DC ) or Talk Show host ( Steve Allen Tonight Show ) , I have always been fascinated by someone who was a very good , competent preliminary but, alas, became more of a footnote or one hit wonder.

Archer was the only thing I liked about Enterprise. I think part of it is that Bakula is a fantastic actor. Which made it all the more glaring that most of the cast were mediocre actors. They should have written stuff putting him and Billingsley together, the other really great actor on the show.

Yeh, I don't get it: it seems a lot of people didn't like it, but personally I rate it as my 2nd favourite series, TOS being the 1st and while I'm at it: TNG 3rd, Voyager 4th, DS9 last. Wow, me too, Natalie. The classic Trek was before I was born. I remember my 9th grade homeroom classmate talking about the warp transition special effect. At the time, it came out, the only real competition for it was reruns of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Chronologically, TNG occurs in the 24th century. But Star trek: TNG had so much better special effects than Buck Rogers. The in-joke was, "How is it that the technology of the 24th century is better than that of the 25th?"

And one time when Jay Leno was doing his monologue he said, "Has anyone see Captain Picard on the new Star Trek? I guess it just goes to show that even in the 24th century, they still haven't found a cure for balding."
@yosefmacgruber1920
@yosefmacgruber1920 5 жыл бұрын
@@perfectsplit5515 That is easy to answer. _Buck Rogers_ can not possibly exist in the _Star Trek_ universe. Their stories are way too contradictory. _Buck Rogers_ certainly is not _Star Trek_ canon. Also, _Buck Rogers_ is hardly futuristic enough for its time. A cure for balding? Presumably such a cure would not be natural, and some people, in the _Star Trek_ future even, apparently prefer natural in at least some things. Why does a person have to have unnatural hair? Perhaps people in the future, as in the past, more so respect the wisdom of years of elderly people, and so perhaps looking elderly is also looking distinguished or something? We see in _Voyager_ that babies in the _Star Trek_ future are still usually delivered vaginally, and that a "fetal transport" is only used in problem deliveries. Apparently, natural is still best in some of these things. Perhaps a natural birth has some benefit for the baby? Well at least that is one good thing about an unlikely BTW _Star Trek_ future. No longer will we be cutting people open to do an operation or to deliver a baby. But then I imagine that "food replicators" are more believable than "transporters". Can we really trust a computer to put a person back together in just the right way, down to the subatomic level? Whereas as replicated food, probably does not have to be "perfect". Maybe that partially explains why they are still using some old traditional food ways, such as cooking, on _Voyager_ although I don't find that very believable. I think if we had "food replicators" then most all food would probably be replicated. Traditionally-prepared food, probably would not taste that much better. Probably in the _Star Trek_ future, many people still believe in having naturally large families and not using unnatural birth control. Why else had humans spread to many 100s of worlds? In fact, isn't that the real reason for "food replicators"? Not to make the _Star Trek_ story more plausible, but because humans had so hugely populated the earth, that much land was needed merely for human habitation, and "food replicators" freed the land from being needed also for agriculture. "Food replicators" were hardly just for convenience, but the obvious way to feed the by-then enormous world population. BTW, Captain Piccard has an artificial heart. Due to his unfortunate altercation with some unruly ugly aliens during his Starfleet Academy years. Why didn't he have a replacement real heart? Well perhaps the sci-fi story warning of the movie _The Island_ somehow deterred that natural/unnatural approach.

Why does a person have to have unnatural hair? Perhaps people in the future, as in the past, more so respect the wisdom of years of elderly people, and so perhaps looking elderly is also looking distinguished or something?" No, it goes like this: The rise of MMA in the 21st century led to many MMA competitors shaving their heads completely bald (even men with no natural hair loss) in order eliminate the inconvenience of wiping off your sweaty hair while grappling, and to eliminate the possibility of an opponent grabbing one's hair to control him during a fight. Thusly, society began to associate completely bald men with toughness and masculinity. More and more men started to shave their heads bald, even with no martial arts training. It became a thing and never went away.

8:09 I honestly don't understand this phenomenon of making death threats towards actors for the actions of their on-screen characters. On some level, the people making the threats realize that what they see on television is not actually happening. I mean, to make the threat in the first place, these fans would have to find out the real life name of the actor playing that character. If anything, a character playing a bad guy so well that you get mad at them means they are a good actor and should be lauded. For instance, I hate what Warden Norton does to Andy Dufrane in The Shawshank Redemption. But I have no ill will towards the actor Bob Gunton who played Norton. I thought he did a fantastic job.

Captain Kirk was a macho hero out of 50's pulp fiction who always duked it out with the bad guys and got the girl in the end. He was a swashbuckling space cowboy. Captain Picard was a more modern captain who came up in a time where a starship captain who got horizontal with every green space babe had to worry about the possibility of contracting an STD.

Additionally, Captain Picard was criticized by die-hard classic Trekkers when TNG first hit the airwaves in '87. Some people called him a "wimp" who could not fill Kirk's shoes. In an episode of The Simpsons, the Springfield University geeks are arguing online with MIT people, who are giving reasons why Captain Picard is better than Captain Kirk. The Springfield U people are laughing at the "absurd" arguments. I think that later on with time, people began to judge Jean-Luc Picard on his own merits, without comparing him to anyone else. He was a diplomat, statesman, and a philosopher. He acted more like a captain, remaining safely on the bridge while the more expendable junior officers explored the dangerous planet below. In 1994, an ROTC student wrote a research paper comparing Captain/Admiral Kirk to Captain Picard, in a comparison of leadership styles. He argued that Picard was more disciplined and obeyed the rules better. Decades later, people really do recognize Picard as the greatest Star Trek captain of all time. Some people describe him as, "what Chuck Norris would be if he read books". When Sheldon and his geeky friends from The Big Bang Theory went to that sci-fi convention, they dressed up as TNG crew members, not as classic Trek people.

@@perfectsplit5515 Well, I don't know if I would call Picard the greatest captain of all time... These are the basic facts that a casual fan will know. In the original concept the crew was supposed to be a 50/50 ratio of male to female but the network said that might lead to fans thinking to much hanky-panky was going on and had them change it to a 1 to 5 ratio. Gene use to say that few amount of attractive and physically fit women can keep the entire crew satisfied.

@perfectsplit5515 5 жыл бұрын
@ambulance girl Back when TNG first came out, many die-hard traditional Trekkers were prejudiced against Captain Picard. They judged him only by comparing him to Kirk. There is even an episode of The Simpsons where 3 Springfield University geeks are reading online reasons from MIT as to why Picard is better than Kirk, and laughing at them. The first two seasons of TNG were crap, and that didn't help much. But over time, people began to see the advantages that Picard had over the "space-cowboy" James Kirk. People eventually learned to judge Picard on his own merits, without comparing him to anyone else. Picard was so much more well-spoken than Kirk. He acted more like a proper captain, staying on the ship and letting the more expendable junior officers explore the dangerous planet below. Picard was more of a diplomat, who was willing to see the big picture, rather than get into fistfights with alien bad guys just to inflate his ego. To my surprise, all the women wanted him (and it had nothing to do with his looks). Women liked his command presence and his deep authoritative voice. He was the man. Patrick Stewart went on to get voted "Most Sexy" Man on TV in TV Guide's poll.

Desilu was founded in 1950 by Ball and Arnaz for the purpose to sell I love Lucy to television networks. Ball had been in a CBS radio show called My Favourite Husband which she wanted to bring to television which was the main reason for them buying the studio and founding the company. The show was renamed I Love Lucy presumably because of copyright. So the origins of Desilu was not so altruistic as portrayed but a promotion machine for Lucille Ball. In 1967Desilu was procured by Gulf & Western. Desilu only produced the first two series of Star Trek.

Not just up on stage, in a room sitting around casually. Nickels sang, Doohan talked about the war. These two seemed like they really liked each other. Great memories.

Some facts I can give you on Star Trek. My brother stole any Star Trek toy I had. If he was grounded, and couldn't pick TV shows, he would threaten death if I didn't decide that I wanted to watch Star Trek. My brother also had the hull number of the original Starship Enterprise as his unlock code for his phone.

You asked who my favorite captain was, it's captain Data. His brief appearance on Star Trek TNG when the federation created the tachyon net was my favourite. Even though he did not have the ability to feel emotions he created an emotional response to deal with the insubordination on his ship. That aspect in his character development was essential to show us the wooden puppet trying to be a real boy and reflected the absolute need for a captain to have order on a starship.

My mom was a HUGE Picard fan. She started referring to us by our designation in family order. She was the second child making my oldest sibling 1 of 2. This "trend" was carried on by her grandkids so my 2nd child is 2 of 4. Star Trek even had a part in her memorial service. It was held at a Planetarium and there was a video presentation of photos from her life with the last shot, mom being beamed up. She was a pretty cool "old lady" 😊

my favorite captain is sisko. he seemed to be the most real of them all. he would follow the rules to a point, but break them if needed. he stood by his crew, took care of them and seemed, as a character, as I said, more real. he had flaws and worked around them. his trouble accepting the role of emissary was something no other captain had to deal with. the episode "in the pale moonlight" shows both the depth to which sisko could go, as well as brook's acting ability. also, the episode "rules of engagement" shows how he would stand by his crew. he defends worf, accused of committing a massacre with all his ability, and even though it was proven to be a trick, and all was well, he let's worf know he was pissed off because worf committed a dumb mistake which led to his trouble. but he did it afterward, as part of his educating worf in the job of command. so, I think siskp was the best captain.

Crazy Chimp Int. I have watched 3 of you'r videos, and the quality is way lower on your channel then list 25. 1. You need somone who speaks propper british or English. The announcer is pretty bad at that. 2. There is no personality. You just show trailers and commercials of the products. 3. List 25 vs list of 3. No honnorbel mentions, or explanations why these 3 are the best/worse 4. You poach people from other channel's and tell them your product is better, but its worse. 5. No grafics. You just show a entire trailer and talk. Thats like a 5 minut job to make that kind of video. 6. No branding. You have a horrible distorted branding. Look on the big channels ans see how clear and easy it is to notice there mark vs you'r own. 7. No clear direction. Its almost like you just look up any top 3 on the internet and take premade products/list and voice it 8. Lack of personality. There is no personality in you'r videos. 9. Make full links instead of a shirt version. Nobody knows where those links go. 10. Don't f.. poach people from other channels.

One scary but interesting fact about the transporter technology: It doesn't actually transport the person from one place to another. It actually scans the distant "person" compares that scan to data stored in the computer, then recreates the pattern on the pad including the changes. What it does when it scans the distant body, it destroys it in the process. In effect, it isn't "you" that comes out the other end, but a copy.

STTOS was supposed to be like a western in space; at least, that was how it was pitched to the networks, witness the revised pilot with the shootout between Kirk and Gary at the end (can't remember the character's last name, sorry). So there's no surprise it turned out that way. Oh, BTW, it's' 'Connery', not Conroy. And by the time Moore showed up, he was really too old. Connery was 32 when he first played Bond; Moore was what, 47? I know Moore was Fleming's original choice, but that was when he was much younger.
