Usually I consider the shiny clause to mean you can catch it and then immediately either box it or transfer it to a different game/HOME. Basically if you encounter a shiny, the entire run is put on pause until the shiny is captured (any deaths during the siny encounter are also non-canon). I also consider any battle in which you do not collect exp (battle tower, raids, world tournament, online battles for whatever reason) to also be non-canon. In the event that a team member falls in a battle, and then you are immediately dragged into another battle with an auto-healed team, The second battle is considered non-canon (the rival battle after the leauge in ORAS, and one of the Nemona fights in S/V right after a gym). This rule does not apply to the "escort segments" in the gen 4 games where the ally autoheals you infinitely. In those games, the party deaths dont matter, however, you are required to speedrun the area, and then go back through from the start again on your own.
