Hi Adrian, I wanted to encourage your ambition to go full time with these videos as they have been an invaluable resource and a springboard for me on my personal journey on understanding and generating power. Thanks to you, I bought the Allpowers 372WH and fold able 100W panel. Since then I've moved on to a Poweroaks 50s and then on to building my own solar generator with a 50AH Lifepo4. The Allpowers went to my mother in law who now enjoys free, guilt free heat from a 60W car electric blanket in the winter and cooling from a USB fan in the summer. You indirectly made her life much better so I thank you for that as well. I've just gone for the 22l version of this fridge after checking out many reviews, yours included. Seems just the ticket for car camping or a bit of space for saving the freezer contents if the power goes out. You include so much detail in all your reviews and I love the sideways approach you take to things like alternate methods of charging Solar generators. You inspired me to explore USB C which, thanks to a few adapters and cables, I am now able to use to charge my non PD receiving AC50s with whilst on the move. Well done and please do keep it up, you've taught and inspired many more like me I am sure.

Just a heads up. On HIGH battery protect mode it will cycle on and immediate cycle off once it dips into and out of range. This can be very annoying. Especially since the power on voltage will drop the supply voltage by 1 volt(approx.).😂😂😂😂

Hi Adrian, another great video ! I’ve just taken delivery of the Alpicool CF45 , for going camping, and as back up to household fridge. Got it chilling down powered by the Jackery 10000, will see how long it lasts before the voltage protection kicks in, At Moment from room temperature cooling down to 3c, drawing 35 watts in eco mode, of course with the solar saga panels, on a reasonable day , technically the Jackery will be charging at a higher rate than the fridge draws, so looking forward to testing that when I got some time off !

@Jedi Ninja Ranger It's great to hear from you! I always appreciate your kind feedback, thank you😊. I can't believe how good these fridges are (first compressor one). Spot on, the panels should still charge the Jackery on a reasonably sunny day and the fridge shouldn't be running constantly once at the right temp. It would be good to hear how you get on, as I'm looking at a larger version to test over the summer (not sure on size just yet) to give viewers options as I’ve covered the smallest now. I hope you get some time off soon! Take it easy, Adrian

@@DADvinci Hi Adrian, just a quick update for you ! So, I had the Alpicool CF45 running off my Jackery 1000, had it in fridge Mose only, temperature set to 3c, The power bank had 90% charge at beginning of run, the fridge was in a back room, ambient temp about 22c. I got a full 72 hours power out of the unit which at end of test had 3% left in the jackery. I had some tins of drink in the fridge and a separate thermometer to monitor the internal temperature, which was quite steady, although the display on outside of the fridge did fluctuate between 1c to 4c which I *guess* is a combo of when the compressor kicks in and out, and maybe not the most accurate sensor, All in all though, am very chuffed with the results, will certainly fulfil my camping / glamping / overland needs ! All the best Sean

@Jedi Ninja Ranger Hey Sean! That's awesome info, thanks for testing and sharing👍That matches up with other things I've read about the display accuracy. Saying that, the things I take out of the fridge seem consistent with my domestic fridge freezer and the ice cream…..remains ice cream. It's great to hear you're happy with this one and it would cover any situation, I guess including a better backup for saving more fridge freezer contents in the event of a grid issue. Sounds like I need to consider a larger one now😊. Do you have any trips planned in the near future? Cheers, Adrian

@@DADvinci there is the option of two modes, eco and max. If I'm just using this to keep things cool I set it on 2 degrees. When setting this on max its -2 for the best configuration for "freezer mode" Its a delicate balance for the best energy efficiency from the lifepo4's. I will consume the food it freezes within a week so no point setting it lower to consume more power than needed. Eddie stobart lorrys have these for tramping as they can take the 24v supply from the socket. They use very little power to operate.

Thanks for the video, has helped me make the decision to buy an alpicool to go with my jackery 500. Not sure what size yet tho. I have been reading than running in eco mode draws more , as it runs lower but over a longer time than having set on max. Not sure what sort of test would be needed to get the results, guess just run the jackery down from 100% to zero on eco mode then on max mode and time each one.

Hi Adrian, we are travelling in South America with a van and we have an Alpicool C15 new one, for 2 weeks it worked great, it was on MAX as the weather here is very hot ( daily temperatures goes up to 30 C and over ) also we kept it on factory settings which was H for Battery protection mode. We use it on car battery when we are driving, when we stop if there are mains available, we change the cable and put it on mains, or if there is no mains available, there is a 2nd car battery which we charge also while driving which is connected to a converter (From 12V to 220 V) so we use this second battery for the fridge. Now neither me or my husband does not understand from electrics that well, so we do not understand when it is on mains, battery protection mode should be H or M or L, and while we are driving or while we are using the second battery. What mode it should be on. Last 3 days although it was working on MAX, temperature on display screen doesn't go under 18 ( although I have set the temperature to 0 or even -2) and current voltage shows like 49.9 v I am so sorry for such a long explanation, but we don't know what to do, and it is brand new we only used it 2 weeks. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanking you in advance Bala Chappell
@DADvinci
@DADvinci Жыл бұрын
@Bala Birsin Hey Bala! South America sounds amazing and much hotter than the UK at the moment. When using the mains adapter, the battery protect setting doesn't matter as the mains can't be drained low, like a battery can. According to the manual, the battery protection settings for 12V are Low = Compressor shutdown 8.5V & compressor on 10.9V Medium = Compressor shutdown 10.1V & compressor on 11.4V High = Compressor shutdown 11.1V & compressor on 12.4V So above, the compressor shutdown will occur when the voltage hits the number. I assume your car battery and 2nd car battery are lead acid? If so, personally I'd always use the high protection setting, otherwise if could cause battery damaged if the voltage gets too low. Has the fridge still been cooling (things still cold inside) even when the display has been giving unusual readings? The 49.9V doesn't look right, as this fridge only supports 12V or 24V input. Have you tried it again on mains yet and does the compressor start working? If you could let me know on the above, I'll see if I can provide further tips. All the best, Adrian

For the testing on runtime did you prechill the items inside or added ice bottles or anything. If you don't pre chill it it would drain those solar generators very quickly. No way a jackery can last 29 hours straight from a warm fridge to a cold one. You had to of pre chilled it right

What size solar panel would help keep it running 😊
@DADvinci
@DADvinci 13 күн бұрын
@tobykeating6773 Thanks for your question Toby. Usually, it depends on the battery capacity you have available, the more the better and the panel would keep it topped up. Providing the ambient temperature isn't too high (always keep the fridge in shade) a 100W panel could be a good place to start, although there are lots of variants to consider if you want to run the fridge constantly and solar isn’t great. An alternative power source would also be good for battery top up. Did you have a use-case for the fridge in mind? All the best, Adrian

@martinnichols45 Thanks for your question Martin. Are you using it from battery or with the mains power brick? I'd suggest going with the lower temp figure first, especially if ambient temp is high, but keep an eye to ensure that the things in the fridge remain as cold as you'd normally expect/want. I initially set my fridge to 1C and regularly checked nothing froze and now leave it around 2C. Each fridge is a little different which is why they have the calibration settings, but you’ll get a feel for where it sits, unless you have a temp sensor you can place inside to get a definitive idea on what you need it to be. Please let me know if you are using battery as that will determine where you need to leave the protection settings. Eco should work fine, but I use Max when loading it up to ensure it keeps the temp down where it should be. All the best, Adrian

@martinnichols45 Thanks Martin. The battery protection levels are really there to prevent flat starter batteries in cars, campers, etc, so in your case you could put it on low as it shouldn't make any different to your Ecoflow. From what I remember the river pro has a regulated 12V cigarette lighter output so wouldn't get to the protection level threshold anyway and would stay at the regulated voltage until your river pro shuts down.

Hi great video! I’m struggling with the maths to make a decision to buy though 😅 how long would it run at the 3 degrees for on a 120ah leisure battery please? (No lower than 50%) Thank u 🙏
@DADvinci
@DADvinci Жыл бұрын
@sianbennett8386 Hey Sian and thanks for your kind feedback 😃👍. That's a tough question to answer as the runtime is affected by ambient temperature. I assume you've got a 12V leisure battery? So, on paper you've got 60Ah to use on a full charge. If it's a 12V battery, then 12V x 60Ah = 720Wh (rough estimate). Based on my results shared in the video, the Jackery Explorer 500 (has 500Wh) and it lasted 68 hours. Although the Jackery has 500Wh available on a full charge there will be some losses due to the regulated 12V socket, but it will give you some idea that your setup with 720Wh on a fully charged 12V leisure battery (ambient temp dependent) is likely to last longer than the 68 hours in my test. I'm sorry I can't be more specific due to the variables involved, but I hope this helps a little. All the best, Adrian

@Rossco Batterbury Good day and thanks for your question. That's a tough one to answer, as it would depend on the type of contents and ambient temperature. Why don't you tell the truth? The allpowers device cannot be used with a refrigerator. When the refrigerator reaches the desired temperature and the compressor stops, after 5 seconds the 12 volt socket is turned off such as there is no load. Restart is not possible when the temperature in the refrigerator changes, as there is no power at the 12 volt socket. In order for the power not to turn off, there must be a constant load on this socket of 12 volts. This is a big problem, I bought this device and can't use it with my fridge standalone.

I saw the initial wattage used of around 30-35w but that will change based on initial cool down, maintaining temp, and whether its inside a hot car or outside in the shade. So how many watthours would you say it used from your Jackery battery over 24hrs? Thanks

@__ Good day and thanks for your question. Results can vary (as in the video) due to ambient temperature and cooling mode/temp. In essence, average watt-hours for my non-scientific test wouldn't add much more in value terms than how long the charge lasted overall, due to the variants involved (as other viewers have mentioned to me). If you wanted to derive a figure on the Explorer 240 based on my result of 29 hours runtime, I could apply my usual rule of thumb calculation (very rough). I assume 80% capacity available (could be more or less in terms of real-world usage), so 240Wh @ 80% = 192Wh useable. 192Wh ÷ 29 hours = 6.6Wh. Personally, I wouldn't use this due to the assumptions made. I hope this helps a bit. All the best, Adrian

@@DADvinci - I apologize, I scrolled through the video again and now noticed you did indeed show how much wattage was used at 16:43. Somehow I missed that my first time watching. Thats exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
